Pretty accurate date if you'd ask me. Not sure where they got this from.

These two sentences are paradoxes. How is it accurate if you have no idea where they got the date...?

And that's too soon. That's before the launch of Lords of Shadow 2. If it was coming that soon, Konami would say so.

I don't think so.

Aren't those usually placeholder dates?

Placeholder dates are usually December 31st 201X. January 3rd is not a placeholder.

This is the most likely place to find out this kind of information. They would certainly be the only place with intimate knowledge of this nature.

I'm extremely insecure with how much f2p mobile games are encroaching on Nintendo
I doubt it. The PR and Marketing hounds would have begin the preliminary media blitzes for holiday season awareness by now I'd think.

The word you were looking for is "specific", not "accurate". And this is still pretty obviously a placeholder date, Konami hasn't announced anything.

But most games come out on Tuesdays?

Also, we know a ton of games coming out Jan-Feb, and have for a long time. It would be pretty weird for such a gigantic game to quietly have a release date, I mean we've known the date for Lightning Returns forever now, and that's AFTER this suspected date.

I think that if it is ready by then, they will wait until March.

I also think it won't be out in 2014 :(

It's the first (somewhat) reasonable date in 2014 that you could use as a placeholder and it seems unlikely that Konami would release their flagship in January. So yeah, mistake or placeholder. I'd love to be proven wrong though.

I've seen this before with Zavvi. Placeholder date. Until Konami comes out with an official announcement, any date mooted is probably bogus.

Besides that, I'm 99% sure this game won't be arriving until mid-late 2014 at the earliest. If it were coming any time before March, they'd have announced the release timeframe, if not the specific date, by now.

It's from their financial data. They said its not coming out this financial year aka not until after March 31st 2014. And MGSV would have a substantial impact on their income so its not the sort of thing they can or would lie about to shareholders.

Sounds like something that would come up at a shareholder's meeting, given the dates look like they represent Konami's fiscal year.

Edit:
"Hideo Kojima made a splash during E3 2013 with a lengthy, emotional, and amazing trailer for Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. With the title now set for release on PS3, Xbox 360, PS4, and Xbox One, many are wondering when Konami will release The Phantom Pain to a world of anxious Metal Gear Solid fans. On Aug. 14, Konami released information – shared via David Gibson – concerning the release of Metal Gear Solid V and the wait could be a long one.

According to Gibson, Konami will release Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain some time in 2014 or early 2015. Specifically, the release will take place during the next fiscal year – between April 2014 and March 2015. Obviously, this is a large release window and does not provide us with an exact release date, but it does rule out a late 2013/early 2014 release.

Gibson also shares that Konami will release a smaller, unannounced Metal Gear Solid title before March 2014."

The placeholder could be for the smaller title (Ground Zeroes?) being released separately from TPP, provided Konami still plans on using this business model.

And just common fucking sense dictates that Konami's biggest game is not going to come out in January.

It's either May or holiday 2014 at this point.
