COD: Ghosts PS4 case jacket leaked; 49GB install

So hows that digital future working out for everyone?

edit: Duh (on my part), you guys are right. This will affect everyone because of the mandatory installs.

Okay, if you really insist
Yeah, hasn't it been confirmed that both PS4 and XB1 games will fully install all games onto the hard drive?

I know people don't like to invoke it, but this shit is just 'lazy developers' material prime. They haven't figured out those blu-ray discs and streaming yet? For a cross-gen title?

Or maybe just pressed for time devs? They must be crunching like hell with so many platforms to support.

Seeing as this is a euro edition, possibly this is Multi-5 (i.e. audio for 5 languages?)

Wow.. I hope that it's only a special case with this one. I don't want my hard-drive to be full after 9 or 10 games.

man if any system really did go all digital this gen, this shit would have been a disaster. 50Gig installs? The internet in most parts of America is not ready.

500gb will be far too low for this gen that's certain.

Yeah WTF MS was thinking.

Is there a PC game that needs that much GB?

And after seeing the PS4 footage on IGN, I'm actually interested to see what those 49GB do - because it looked like a jaggy PS3 game in that specific video

Each jaggy is 5gb. Next gen jaggies ain't nothin' to be fucked with.

Guys, you're going to be installing most everything on both systems.

Then for people worried about going digital because of HDD space makes no sense to go physical correct fellow GAFfer? Because the Physical edition will require the same amount of space as the digital version.

Guess I'll be more selective this gen and will be even more digital only with some games that I will play for longer time during the upcoming months.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but we can play the game while it installs, right? If so, meh, no biggie. Kinda sucks that Sony and MS are only putting 500gig drives in these consoles though.

Wait, so do the installation files STAY on the PS4 hard drive? That would be insane. Basically it would be dumb to buy retail. One of the biggest reasons I'm going physical is because I don't have to worry about filling up hundreds of gigs just from a few games.

Might be uncompressed audio or video bloating the game's size. Kind of weird games are suddenly massive now. Makes me far less inclined to want to buy digitally though.

so...what size hard drive will fit in a ps4? 12.5 right?

May have to shop for one if this is the sort of installs we can look forward to this gen.

My mind if full of fuck trying to comprehend how this game could take up 49 gigs. Are they just refusing to compress anything even a little bit?

I feel like the 500gb standard drives this gen are kinda the equivalent of the useless 20gb drives from last gen.

There's gonna be so many damn 50gb installs

What is the best 2TB laptop drive to buy? I'm going to have to buy one now.

2TB should be enough though. I don't tend to own too many games at one time (I buy and I sell). I survived an entire gen with a measly 120GB.

I've got 30 down / 5 up (which isn't the fastest obviously but well above average in the US) and I'm cringing at the thought of downloading a ton of 50GB titles.

why would anybody do that? it makes no sense from a practicality or performance standpoint. 1080p blurays are compressed video.
Oh I didn't know about the video aspect, but I know audio like in MGS4 being uncompressed was a massive change to how much data was being used on the bluray.

I'm not really sure what is taking up 50gb's here cause the game looks like shit.

There is absolutely no excuse for this taking up that much space. HD/next gen/whatever or otherwise -- that's completely unacceptable.

i've been hoping sony would go onto detail how game installs work, but so far they havent said anything

they could easily deal with the hd storage issue by having game installs go into a certain folder or whatever, and then when you run games on disc, if there's not enough space for them to install fully it just deletes the oldest game install in the game folder automatically

I imagine it's just lazy compression to shave a few seconds off load times. Bet you each FMV is there 5 times over with 5 different languages as the sound.

I doubt that, because games are played from the hard drive, not the optical disc.

It shouldn't be a big deal to delete older installs, as the same tech that allows the game to play when partially downloaded will allow you to play the game before it's fully installed from disc. No idea if they will have an automatic system for this, though.
