So the standby/sleep power draw is....?
Put this in the OP:
80W on standby is quite abit. Just compare it to a light bulb staying on. Most bulbs are 60W thou.
A netbook class CPU pulling 80W at idle is a lot tbh.
Comparison with launch PS3?
edit: And how about standby mode?
Even a desktop with an i7 and dedicated GPU at idle is like 100w afaik. Could be wrong
Wow. That is way, way more than expected
How much is it on standby?

You know you can turn it off if you don't want it using power.

Then why buy a PS4 at all?
IIRC there's no standby mode right now.
Isn't 113 degrees F really hot. My GPU doesn't even go above 80.

What asshattery is this - the measurements make no sense! Where is this chart from? Almost no reduction in dB between 1 and 3 meters. The drop would be almost 10 dB in anechoic conditions.
Example of desktop CPUs (FX8150 is 8 core) with a GTX580 pulling high 50s to low 70s.

A system running a netbook class CPU pulling 80w at idle is a lot tbh.

Those CPU's are also pretty expensive compared to the PS4. There's also a software equation to this. The PS4's OS is not the same as Windows 7 or 8, and their idle modes are probably very different. Windows in particular has a lot of power saving stuff that desktops share as well, like avoiding the GPU and not spinning up the hard drives.
Do you have a 8 Core Netbook?
Everything in this system is designed to not consume much power. This is why we are stuck with these shitty CPU's and GPU's from two generations ago.
if they have all 8 cores running at full voltage when the system is idle they're doing something wrong
Exactly. Also do we know the die size for the SOC? It's gotta be bigger than those desktop processors so it's naturally gonna eat more power.
it's definitely not bigger than any of those CPUs + a GTX 580, which is what that chart is showing
140w is a lot of juice? Shiiit, I draw over 800w at full load with my SLI setup. PS4 power consumption is fucking fantastic.
netbook class, lol...........
Gamers worldwide have been scratching their head over how Sony managed to use all 200 rated watts of power from its new video games system. The reason why the PlayStation 4 uses 100% of its allotted power rating is because, Sony sources revealed to us, the PlayStation 4 runs on DOS emulators.
"We wanted to make sure that you got the most out of your PlayStation 4," said a Sony representative.
How does the PlayStation 4 manage to output 1080p using a DOS emulator? By running a lot of them, says Sony sources. An astounding number of them, side by side, in glorious unison.
Stay tuned for more PS4/Xbo converage.
80W in idle is too much.

Surely 80W in idle is a typo/mistake? I thought they were aiming for energy efficiency. 100W for Blu-ray playback? Jesus.
Most current blu-ray players are around 15W or below.
I'm curious how much Netflix uses.
Going to measure mine when I get it.
Idle is not standby. Idling is sitting on the dash doing nothing while standby would be providing a trickle to allow the console to maintain certain processes to boot instantly.
I know what idling is. That's way too high imo. I was expecting a max of 40W or lower for idle. Also, the blu-ray playback power consumption is ridiculous.
