Crash peaked on its console of origin, much like Sonic peaked on the Genesis

The three first games were excellent, the others? bland and generic
For a different reason, because of Naughty Dog leaving their IP up to Universal instead.

Its the same actually, sonic went to shit the moment the original team left to do some other stuff (Nights) and gave the franchise to others who made chaotix, and then there was sonic3d and sonic R.

In comparison Sonic Adventure was a pretty good game and it almost seemed things could only go up from there.

Then heroes came around...

But the difference is that different developer teams in different studios developered Crash games under the IP

I tried playing Twinsanity but I really didn't like it. The controls were sloppy as hell.

Wrath of Cortex, how I adore you and your reverse camera angles while running away from boulders. That game was quality family time.

I have gotten extremely addicted to getting Platinums on Crash 3 and CTR. Never used to bother with getting the best times as a kid, but right now I'm loving the grind and challenge for some reason.

So far I've done the 3 medieval levels and the 2 China levels. And on CTR just the first beach level.

Pretty sure there was no boulder chasing you in Wrath of Cortex.

This. Actually there were only boulders in Crash 1 and 2. I think there was a dragon chasing you in WoC.

And boy, some of those Platinum relics are brutal! Not to mention the Tropy/Oxide ghosts in CTR.

Hahaha. Yep that sums it up pretty well.

Incidentally my addiction to these time trials continues. It took me a few hours but I nailed the platinums on the first racing and first Coco jetski levels. However the one for the first dinosaur level was surprisingly easy and a nice surprise because I thought I hadn't reached the time, then that satisfying relic appeared.

It really wore me out though, couldn't even bothered to try any in CTR after that.

Do you play the NTSC version? If so, there is a glitch with the relic times in the hidden levels Hot Coco and Eggipus Rex. The Platinums are extremely easy in those levels because the game uses the relic times of the levels you warp from (Road Crash and Dino Might!). Because those levels are much longer than the hidden levels you get Platinum on the hidden levels without any hassle.

This bug is fixed in the PAL version, where Hot Coco has a proper Platinum time of 0:19.96 and Eggipus Rex a time of 44:83

I'm from a PAL region but am playing an NTSC version atm which is lucky indeed considering some of the time changes as well.

I don't think I'll allow myself to get away with those times though lol. I'll have to do it the proper way.

So, I've recently gained interest in playing the post-ND Crash games and I was wondering which system to get them for. I can play the games on any of the systems available for them but I'm not sure if the PS2 version was better than the Wii version or Xbox version, etc.. So I could really use some help from those that might know.

For example, for The Wrath of Cortex, I know that the PS2 version has long load times (even the GH version) but the GameCube and Xbox versions don't. But at the same time, does playing with a non-PlayStation controller feel off at all?

And for Mind Over Mutant and Crash of the Titans, does the Xbox 360 version have anything that makes it stand out over the PS2 and Wii version, or are the non-HD versions better than the Xbox 360 version?

It can be very confusing to decide which version to play since the games have some different features on different systems. Thank you guys in advance for helping.

The PS2 GH version of Wrath of Cortex has very short loading times. If you have a PC that can run PCSX2, get that version. Otherwise get the Xbox version. The GC version has major performance issues and should be avoided at all costs.

Crash Mania has a section for the different versions of each game. For Crash of the Titans there's not much difference between versions, but the 360 version is available digitally and has some extra shine to it. Wii version has motion controls (as well as button options). For Mind over Mutant the co-op partner is Coco only on the Wii and X360 versions, PS2 and PSP versions get Carbon Crash again.

DS versions of both are unique from the console versions. CotT DS is a pretty good, short romp, every enemy is jackable, uses touchscreen controls for big Titans' special abilities (tap a button, spin a ball, blow in the mic for one guy IIRC; all of them have a slightly weaker version as a button press), and has more platforming than the console CotT. You also play as Nina with a ray gun in some levels. I like this one. But dear god, stay away from MoM DS. It's so bleggghhhhhhh. And that last boss is WTF.

Wow! That Crash Mania site actually helped quite a bit. Thanks!

I was kinda worried that the newer Crash games would play differently on the Xbox 360 than the PS2/Wii like Sonic Unleashed did. Thankfully it doesn't look like it.

What I still wonder though is if it feels weird at all to play a Crash game on a non-PlayStation console. How is that? I might just go all in for the Xbox versions of the Crash games but I wonder if it feels weird or off since it's a different system and controller.

Charles Z:
Crash Bandicoot 1 - Iguana:
Dated from March 1995 these sketches were part of the early development of the Crash Bandicoot franchise when it was still originally Willy the Wombat. We were in a phase of developing additional secondary characters. I was thinking distinct personality but Naughty Dog wanted straight out simple creatures representative of what we'd see in nature for the most part. This was what I came up with for an iguana. Initially starting out as a punk biker thug and then winding up as a straight forward animal. I don't think this has been published before. Something for the Crash historians.

Crash Bandicoot 1 - Warthogs:

In the beginning he was conceived as a sumo wrestler. Naughty Dog decided they didn't want this guy and other incidental characters to emerge as full personalities. Instead they opted for simple versions of what the animal would look like in real life. These drawings are dated March 1995 back when Crash was a wombat named Willy.

Nah, the console and PSP versions are all basically the same, the only unique versions are the DS versions (and GBA for Titans). As for feeling different I can't speak for the Gamecube or original Xbox, that might feel different (to a minimal effect), but it definitely won't matter for CotT or MoM.

I once dreamed that Jason Rubin and Andy Gavin would make a new next-gen Crash game for Activision. That was a glorious dream.

R.I.P. Crash

Okay, awesome. I'm gonna go all in on the Xbox and Xbox 360 then. (And maybe the PSP for portable goodness.) Thanks!

I wonder if those people who said that Knack is dull and boring are the same people who complained about the slow gameplay and overly drastic change of character design in Crash of the Titans... (Note, Knack is hard on normal and hard modes)

So I had a thought. Would it be worth it to tweet at some of the bigger people from Playstation on Twitter like @amboyes, @yosp, and @giocorsi to try and get a next gen Crash game? Obviously it wouldn't do anything with one person doing it, but if a bunch of people in the thread did it with a hashtag like #GetCrashBack. Even if they can't buy the IP, maybe making some noise about it would get them to look into it.

It could probably be a thread by itself, but I figure it would just turn into a "Why would you want that. Crash was awful. SM64 was better." situation like that thread about the signs.

I just really want a good new Crash game.

Surprised none of us posted the Crash sign from the PS4 launch trailer in here. I'll do the honours:

We're all convinced it means he's coming back right? Everyone here a believer? lol.

I don't know about tweeting Sony about making a new crash game, but we should tweet them that easter egg from the launch trailer, and ask what it means.

No, it has more significance. I HAVE TO BELIEVE.

This is a great idea. Yosp and Boyes are good with replying. Perhaps they'll give us a little hint.

Let's start this thing. I did my part:
Tweet them the sign and ask what it means.

Did my part in August

I'll be sure to get one to Boyes and Yosp though.

I don't know if you guys have seen this, or anything and I don't know if this is banned or not but, eskimopress.com just released this bit of information:

"We were the first site to confirm that Uncharted 4 was in development for the PlayStation 4 and that it would be revealed this year. The source that leaked this information to us had a lot to say about the upcoming Crash Bandicoot reboot".

Crash Bandicoot has a very complicated history. The first four games were developed by Naughty Dog and released exclusively on the PlayStation. Later, the series became a multi-platform title after a falling-out between Sony Computer Entertainment and Universal Studios. The series was handed over to another developer and become a multi-platform title. Activision currently hold the listened for the Crash Bandicoot series.

Crash Bandicoot is definitely on its way to the PlayStation 4. The PS4 is basically the second iteration of the PS2 and they are going to be bringing back some of the biggest games from that era. I did not get to see any game-play, but it is definitely in production. I spoke briefly to a friend whom I visited ND with about this the other day; it is possibly that ND is actually working with SMS on this game. I cannot confirm this, but it seems very plausible. There is a chance of a small teaser this year, or at least an announcement, but I wouldn’t count on it.

Yesterday, 16th of November, our source confirmed that a next-gen reboot of Crash Bandicoot is, indeed, in production and is definitely on its way to the PlayStation 4. One of the biggest, and well kept, secrets in the industry could be that Sony has recently acquired the Bandicoot license of Activision and Naughty Dog and Santa Monica Studios are working together on the next-gen reboot of the series.

EDIT: N.Domixis beat me to it.

Hmmm. I don't know how much I believe that. If ND couldn't do Jak because they felt like it was too cartoony, why would they help with Crash?

Also, I've never heard of Eskimo Press before, so that was an immediate warning sign lol

Edit: And if this were true, how does Eskimo Press know about it, but our insiders don't (or at least haven't said anything)?

If it is true though, I'll gladly eat all the crow in the world.

Not getting my hopes up, the only possible evidence that crash is back at sony is that sign in the ps4 video.

i havent played crash in a while, especially not the newer ones.. the sign doesnt remind me of crash at all.. can someone point me to something that resembles it
