7 states on the verge of weed legalization (MA, CA, MO, HI, ME, NV, AZ)

Get it done, Maine. Also, 6 Maine house members are gearing up to try and impeach Gov LePage, which really needs to happen. That guy is fucking tragic

What does that have to do with legalizing weed? Two completely separate issues.

I know, but one of the big reasons Hawaii raised the smoking age to 21 is because of all the foreign tourists they get - like Japan, where smoking is 20 and over. There is a huge contingent on the islands that say legalizing weed would be disastrous for tourism, especially Asian countries that have strict drug laws.

I was hoping to see Oklahoma on the list.

Hahahaha.

Ugh...

Ahh ok. I'm sure they would have an uptick of tourists if they were to legalize it.

ok Cali stop fuckin around

Everybody smokes overthere

i'd call NY out, but we got a Republican Governor

The last time marijuana came up for a vote in California, the popular wisdom was that Humboldt County and the other weed-producing areas of the state were agitating against legalization, because it would slash their profits and allow corporations to factory farm, putting the small grower out of business.

I have no idea whether this is actually true, but there's a data point!

Big surprise my state (GA) isn't on the list. I hate this place sometimes... I try to make myself feel better by reminding that GA has birthed some awesome stuff, and it's home to Cartoon Network's general HQ, but still.

But it's a total wink, wink, nudge, nudge situation at this point. Getting a card just costs money and a small amount of time for the appointment. If you want one, you can get one with no issue.
Oh yeah, of course. Lol. All you need is 40 bucks.

Legal here in Alaska, still no where to buy it currently :(. We didn't even have medical dispensaries beforehand.

It sucks so much that it wasn't up and ready for the tourism season this year. Can't smoke anything in my current rental though unless I want to lose my security deposit.

Fuck there's enough smoke in the air right now it shouldn't matter. But ya they need to get these things up asap, state needs money badly.

More and more states need to just legalize it. Nebraska complains about people trafficking marijuana into the state and it would make things easier if it was just legalized. All it has done in surrounding states has been creating fear and scare tactics. I wish it would just be legalized everywhere.

As a Nebraska resident I could easily stay in Colorado for a few days, ditch everything, and drive back with no evidence.

I could give Nebraska money if they legalized it.

If I had my way I'd just live in Colorado. All Nebraska has out west is racists anyway.

Vegas would run wild with this.
Not as much as you'd think. I worked with one of the doctors at the forefront of all of this and from what I've been told, casinos are going to try to get a tight grip on the industry from the get go and effectively prevent any smaller businesses from obtaining a license to sell within the city. Who knows how it'll all go down but I wouldn't be surprised if this happened seeing as how the casinos practically run the town.

The thing is. They need to get pot down to where alcohol is. Not everyone needs to explain themselves. It can be worked around, but to me a large majority feels fear by the thought of legalizing pot. To me it is safer than alcohol.

I haven't used in a very long time, but I see more and more people enjoying themselves in Colorado and everywhere else. Just legalize it.

Theres been rumblings about trying to make it like Amsterdam and the huge amount of tourism that legalization of marijuana would attract. Legalization is going to happen within the next couple years in Nevada. It would be a shock to everyone if it doesnt.
Legal brothels south of Reno. :O

I live in MA and I'd love to see marijuana legalized. I just don't see it happening in the near future though.

It's a liberal state to be sure, but it's also got its puritan roots that will compel a lot of older people to vote against legalization. The mayor of Boston came out recently saying he's against it and would basically "campaign" to make sure it doesn't happen.

Las Vegas' three term ex-mayor Oscar Goodman was trying to get a red light district set up in city limits to help combat the problems that come with illegal prostitution and the horrible child/human sex trafficking issues that plague the town. The red light district didnt pan out and by law he can no longer be mayor. The good news is that Carolyn Goodman, his wife, is now mayor so there is still hope.

Carolyn doesnt always have her Chippendale entourage like Oscar and his showgirls though.

Its for real. Goodman would make public appearances with a showgirl on each arm and a martini in his hand. Hes been the best mayor Vegas has had in my lifetime with like a 90% approval rating and was elected for three terms. The guy is a rabid advocate for Las Vegas. To this day he still holds a grudge against the President for suggesting companies shouldnt go to Las Vegas for conventions to save money. He also threatened to lay down on the train tracks or road should nuclear waste be forced in through the city.. while that might be words to some i have no doubt he'd actually do it had it come to that.

New Jersey, please? We're the Garden State, after all. But we don't even have the ability to force things into action via ballot initiatives, and Chris Christie is comically anti-pot, even though we could desperately use the revenue.

Please don't legalize it anywhere - its been the worst decision Colorado has made. People are smiling and spending tons of money on it. Also tourism from around the world and so much in taxes they are giving some back. It sucks.

As an Arizonan, I would be SHOCKED if it passed here. So far there always seems to be strong opposition anytime something starts moving in the right direction. But man do I hope so. I'll be the first in line to vote and buy!

I really hope it happens, I was in Colorado a few weeks ago and stopped off at a dispensary outside of Grand Junction on the way to Vail and the entire operation was just outstanding and professional.

Walk in to a lobby, give your ID to the attendant, security guard allows you into the "shop" when an employee was available. Super informative and customer friendly, answered all questions and suggested things. I bought a 10 pack of 10mg gummies and two good sized spliffs for 35 bucks (including tax), tipped a 5, and walked out with a white paper bag with stickers attached to everything showing where it was bought and when should I have to deal with getting pulled over.

Just a really nice setup, I wish it was as easy around here instead of the rigmarole of dealing with a friend of a friend, etc, etc. Just make it easy for law abiding adults who want to consume in their own homes. I'll gladly pay the 21% tax like in Colorado, I was actually shocked it wasn't higher.

Seriously, too many people getting locked up for silly shit like this.

It's all about that money. Prison industrial complex, military industrial complex, cartels and even corrupt banks like HSBC all benefit from it staying illegal. (I totally agree with you. Shit needs to be legal)

If it gets on the ballot in MA, it will pass. The legislature might preemptively pass a bill instead. The roll out of medical marijuana has been pretty pathetic here though.
