Absolver |OT| Kick! Punch! It's All In The Mind!

Thanks thats good to know. Getting lost like crazy

I found this map to be a little helpful. Honestly, if you can kinda figure out what direction you are heading in (the paths cut back and forth constantly), you'll find what you are looking for usually.

That patch seemed to break more than it fixed. (On ps4 btw)Can't be sure because I'm exploring different areas but, exncountering crazy glitches one after the other now.
Had a hard bug that stopped healing from kills, and made me not able to see damage scaling from leveling
And the thing blue crashed after a boss fight.
And I had a regular enemy refill its health bar mid combo(no where near its bounding box)
Along with that, unbreakable pots here and there.
This is on one half hour session guys.

It's starting to click now. I spent some time around the base of the tower beating NPCs. Having levelled up a bit meant I lasted longer and the frate and camera issues weren't as bad (this is pre-patch).

Still a dog's dinner technically, but the gameplay aspect is a little less frustrating.

Edit

It's not region specific, but there's PS community/club thing called AbsolverNeoGAF.

Well that sucks. Just had about 850 school XP that couldn't be submitted.

Any opinions about Shockwave? I just got out of a match with a Shockwave/Heal user, and I think Shockwave might be one of the more useful powers. It has a quick start up and it can cancel Heal. I don't know how I feel about that since it doesn't do any damage, but it does say Heal is interrupted when hit.

Anyone else feel a bit like the game gives you flexibility at the cost of accessibility? Maybe this gets easier, but right now I'm a bit conflicted,

I can pick any moves I want, but I can only have eight primary available at a single time. However to use one of those eight, I have to be in the right stance.

But in the middle of a fight, or pressure, it doesn't feel like I can easily pop one of those eight moves exactly when I want to. Can I change stance quickly enough?

If an opponent is using a move and my counter *isnt* in that list of eight, but is second or third in a combo, maybe I won't have time to use it at all, even with feinting.

Compare that to other fighting games and I don't nearly have the flexibility in creating moves as this, but it feels like I have better and quicker access to all to the tools I do have.

It feels a bit like we're throwing strings at each other, but the only guantanteed responses we have are dodges, blocks or parries - which aren't part of the deck system.

Is that fair comment or am I missing nuances in th gameplay?

Were you able to confirm if there are SEA servers for PS4?
I might jump in this weekend.

only found aus/nz community and japan community
not sea
guess it's just not popular enough, sea generally only buys blockbuster stuff so i guess an indie will be ignored

So I just realized that if you are in the bottom left or right stances, you dodge further backwards than if you are in the front left or right stances...time to rebuild my deck based around this.

I wish there was more depth to the PvE part of the game, it almost feels like I'm playing an incomplete alpha version as I'm going through the areas. I've been playing around 5 hours now and there's basically no lore or anything to pull you into the world other than a few NPC's who don't really say much, and cutscenes for bosses which also don't really give much :/

I dig this game. It's definitely not perfect, and needs some more passes to get into a good place. But it's fun.

That said, does anyone else feel like the sound/feedback between good hits and blocks need to be a bit different? I feel like in a game like this, which isn't a flashy Street Fighter game, there are more blocks, more dodges and whiffs, so when you DO hit someone, it should have a really meaty, satisfying sound.

Right now blocks and punches all kind of sound like fwappy blocked hits.

I had a moment where a rando offered me co op, I turned him down, then he attacked me while my back was turned.
I defeated him, then I picked him right back up, and ran away before he could try some more shit. A bit away, I got stuck in a fight with 4 npcs, getting my ass kicked, dude comes and helps.
Definitely getting some early Souls vibes from the online interactions, in a good way

Just got out of a match with a player who got huge amounts of health back after winning a round. There was a 20 level difference between us, but he was able to gain so much health back from a win. We're talking 50%+ regeneration here. Looking back at footage I recorded, I seem to only get about a fifth or so from a win from one opponent, but in another match I got about half per round win and I was the lower level. I'm wondering if level differences determine how much health you'll receive in a round you win.

Also, I think I'm not loading into some matches fast enough and losing by default. I wait for 2 minutes longer than usual, load in, and then head back to the game world. I don't even get to see the results screen, but I do see the name of my opponent while joining the session.

This is happening to me consistently with Lord Prospects now - earlier I fought one down to 1/3 health four times and she disappeared/reappeared with full health each time.

Do they seriously introduce breaking doors early in the tutorial and then it never comes up again? I am almost done with all 6 marked ones and it hasn't come up once.

I don't have the game yet, but that was something I noticed immediately, when I watched one of the first trailers.

Game froze on me right after naming my character. Fantastic start, lol.

Also, I don't like my guy's hair. Can you change your appearance in the game?

Honest impressions of Absolver:

No story to speak of. Not even in that "sparse, figure it out yourself, Dark Souls way."

Game is fun. It's a really good concept.

However:

The controls, performance and camera ALL betray easy play. DOUBLY so when you are teamed up on by 3, 4, 5 NPCs. You are handicapped by bad performance, bad camera, and controls that could be tighter.

Online makes the game richer, but also adds more stutter and freeze.

The gear is extremely boring. Both in look and in stats. More variance would be great.

Where do you get better masks? I found a couple boring ones, one weird Frog ones, and I see dudes with shapes on their head. One with floating, morphing shapes... how?!

Some of them are found in cairns scattered about the land. Aside from online, you can also get some more gear and masks if you take down special NPC opponents. You might need to defeat them multiple times for different gear to show up.

Probably multiple times, then. I have beaten the game, defeated all the nameds (once) and I feel like, found just about every Cairn. So I am guessing repeated fighting of the nameds.

I found that folded eyes mask is in a cairn in the Essence Reserves. As you go up, there will be a cairn in front of three jars by some stairs. I think it's near the top of that area.

The main beef I have with the 2v1 or 3v1 fights is how the AI handles it.

The target you are locked on to plays it cool, plays smart, waits for openings.
The other targets completely go ham and basically spam moves at you.

You can completely cheese this by changing your lock-on target.
Whoever you are targeting basically becomes docile and stops spamming moves at you.

Its just very odd that the other targets don't treat the "fight" the same way.
There is no back and forth.

Got a hate mail today. I've barely played, and saw a guy was not playing near the "save points" or altars or w/e they are called.

Said "fuck it" and beat him senseless, he comes back with 1/4 health and tries to fight back and dies. Then sends me a message which made me laugh and troll him back.

Why so mad? I die in this game all the time walking off cliffs lol.

Anyone have a good tutorial video for this? I read all the tips, etc and still feel I have no clue wtf I am doing.

Any patch notes for 1.04?

Can't see anything about 1.04. Last patch I can see is .03.

Edit - I'm on PS4 now and can see the .04 update. It just says bug and crash fixes.

Edit 2 frate still pony on PS4. Game pauses when people join the server. It doesn't slow - it stops.

Yea it seems the repeated fights uncover a "deeper" story and I'm ok with that.

For the update what I noticed the most was the background music is more pronounced than before. I could actually hear it lol not just in battles.

I may just be not great at the game but I feel like there are a good few moves that are really hard to read and have sweeping motions so evasion is damn near impossible.

Sweeping moves are easy to dodge if you use the right dodge. If you are Stagger or Wind you use the duck/backwards lean. If you are Khalt or Forsaken just parry/absorb or dodge backwards.

I play stagger and sweeps are a free hit for me. Low sweeps you can jump over with forward dodge for wind or the super armor bump for stagger. High sweeps you duck.

Matchmaking is unbelievably good, every time I just click on "search for opponent (Or whatever it is for the Trials)" and sbam, loading screen to enter the arena. It's like entering a new area in some games in terms of time spent, even lesser

I bought the game on PS4 and it is fantastic. I recommend all fighting fans to give this a try.

I agree that all fighting game fans should give it a try, but I strongly disagree about the PS4 version.

Are you playing offline? There are fewer frame rate issues offline, but connect to a server and there are numerous issues on PS4.

If people have the option, go for it on PC.

Hey guys, just a PSA.

There's a really dumb rumor that's gained a lot of traction that you can't chain out of the Stagger stance's dodge-punch, which is completely wrong. I decided to record myself doing a long chain incorporating two such dodges just to prove the point.

In case you wanted to see and you've been curious about stagger.

Stagger's dodge is great and absolutely can chain into anything if you time it right.

There was a rumor you couldn't? I've been chaining out of the dodge punch since I got it. So I'll back you up on this one. I have won many fights against people by using it.

Guess i finished the single player last night, or very close to it? I may have one final fight ahead of me. I am an Absolver now!

Strange question but after the latest patch/update I didn't get to play for a couple days. FInally was able to last night and... did anyone else feel like the game got much darker? I don't think I am going crazy. It just seems almost as if my TVs Black Levels were all of a sudden set wrong. Seems so noticeably dark now, but I see nothing in the patch notes outside of the a fix to waterfal shaders.

This is PS4 Pro btw. It is making me feel crazy!

I had this too, but I thought I was imagining things. I was in the big tower and some of the corners and rooms felt much darker than before.

I tried to adjust the brightness in the game, but there wasn't an option in the menu. PS4 version.

Finally got it and just started playing. There sure is a lot to absorb and some control stuff to adapt to.

Still configuring my Steam Controller to feel right as well. Something tells me it's less-than-ideal for this game.

Enjoying the feel of the combat overall, though :) Just gonna take me a while for it to click.

What's the endgame besides combat trials? I heard you can learn multiple styles but not sure how.

At Combat trial level 10 you can fight the arena boss again.

At 20 you can fight the twins again.

At 30 you can fight the final boss again.

40, 50, 60 repeat.

This drops good cosmetic gear like their cloaks and masks. You can learn other styles by joining a player school. Can also start your own school.

2v2 and 3v3 duels are incoming as well. They said a new area is in progress for Absolvers only too.

I'm using it and I haven't touched nothing on the default control scheme, at first I had a lot of problems with the dodge on the right haptic (Swiping a finger on a touch for that doesn't return a good feeling) but with a lot of patience I got used to it

This combat system is just so good. Wish there was more for the solo player though, would play this a lot during my downtime. Open world duels are fun at least.

I got this yesterday and wow, what a hell of a game.

Unfortunately I ran into a save corrupting bug. Thank god cloud saves are a thing or I'd be up a fuckin' wall in anger. Only ended up losing an hour of progress.
