Advance Wars-like games

Android:

Glory of Generals HD
1941 Frozen Front
Guns'n'Glory WW2

I'm pretty sure all of these have IAP, but should still be decent without dropping a dime on them.

Wasn't there a Transformers strategy game released on ios a few years ago that was supposed to be very Advance Wars like?

I remember hearing it was pretty good.

EDIT: Transformers G1: Awakening

The Great Little War Game series is very similar to Advance Wars. I have them on iOS but I think the first couple of games are available on PC.

Any mention of Sentou Kokka yet? It's the gameplay of advanced wars but with real-life units. Tanks, stealth bombers, artillery, etc. Got a few sequels too.

This game was awesome. Highly recommended, and is a neat take on the AW style.

There's also a 3DS version by Wayforward:

For other AW type games:
Military Madness (TG-16)

Military Madness Nectarsis (X360/PS3 digital)

For other strategy gamesI would recommend:
- Civilization (VI, V, Beyond Earth)
While not quite like AW, but combat is reminiscent, and it just has a ton of other interesting things to try and paths to take.
- X-Com (Either of the new titles are great)

Famicon Wars

Was it Famicon Wars that invented the 10 vs 10 battle animations that Langrisser, Advance Wars and the Union series uses? I think FW is slightly older than Langrisser IIRC

Langrisser/ Warsong

I love this feature and it's a shame more games don't use it.

Woah can't find any footage on Google! Must be very obscure!

Same for Warbits, couldn't find any footage other than the announcement trailer.

Advance Wars is part of the Famicom series. Yep, it's older by some years.

Not sure if they invented that. There are several Japanese war games on the NES out there.

It's an oldie but the first time I ever played Advance Wars, I was reminded of an old NES strategy game called Desert Commander... specifically the split-screen combat view.

Advance Wars is a "Battle Isle style game" and Battle Worlds is a spiritual followup to Battle Isle.

So you know what to do.

Or you could play Battle Isle 3.

Rondo of Swords on Nintendo DS

You attack not by standing next to a unit and hitting it, but by crossing one or several units, so it was very refreshing (and hard) to play.

Units do level up and there's management but it's not as deep as in a regular SRPG.

Nice thread btw, got some interesting suggestions

Luminous Arc 2 (DS) comes to mind. It's okay, a bit too heavy on its dumb story-line. Pokémon Conquest too.

None of them are as good as Advance Wars though.

Battle Academy 1 and 2
Battle Worlds: Kronos
Elven Legacy and Fantasy Wars
Panzer Corps
Panzer Tactics HD
Unity of Command

All on Steam

I will try to recommend TBS games only, no RPG's.
The only exception will be Tactics Maiden. If you can get past the ugly presentation you will find a brilliant game here, with highly impressive tactical gameplay that has a fair share of similarities
with AW despite the RPG elements.

Now for TBS recommendations (all mobile):
Mecho Wars

It's very similar to AW, so I think it will be right up your alley.

Ravenmark: Scourge of Estellion

Very good TBS with interesting mechanics and a surprisingly decent story.

Wars and Battles

I haven't played this one yet, but it got a raving review at
Pockettactics (which is a great site at reviewing TBS games)

Battle for Wesnoth

Massive TBS, with tons of content. It actually has more than a dozen different campaigns with their own self contained stories. Really, it's great. It's available for PC, Mac, Android and iOS.

Battle Academy 1 and 2

If you are serious about TBS, these are the real deal. They are very
expensive though. First one is on sale for $10 on iOS.

Langrisser/ Warsong

I love this feature and it's a shame more games don't use it.

also this! langrisser is great! it is actually my favorite out of all those srpgs. it combines the class-change thinggy of fire emblem/shining force with the feel of massive armies of advance wars.. i think what's best about langrisser is the fact that you can chose from so many classes to level up to plus the whole battle preparation with buying soldiers, and the fact that your class impacts what soldiers you get..

also, there's a pretty good translation of langrisser 2 for the genesis and it's an even better game =)

Someone mentioned Great Big War Game already, but I feel like it was overlooked. This is essentially an Advance Wars clone, and there are a few games in the series. Great Little War Game, Great Little War Game 2, and Great Big War Game.

I've played the first one, and it was a lot of fun, and as close to Advance Wars as you can get without being Advance Wars.

My itch for a new Advance Wars game is rising and I would like to know of good strategy games that are similar and that are not FFTactics, Shadow Wars, Fire Emblem, Valkyria Chronicles or Tactics Ogre.
On any platforms, even iOS. Thanks!

On Xbox 360, Xbox LIVE Arcade: Commander - Attack of the Genos.

On Nintendo DS: Drone Tactics

Lmao at people recommending Civ to someone who is looking for games like Advanced Wars.

I'll have to snag Battle Worlds: Kronos when it goes on sale.
