Neither Diablo nor DAI provide a challenging and rewarding experience. In fact both games have very cheap mechanics especially D3 were certain mechanics are unavoidable and can one shot. Everything in Souls is avoidable damage wise.I despise Bloodborne. It's a console arcade experience with old school game design ideas of extreme difficulty, repetition, memorization, timing, etc. The design comes from a time where games had limited resources and had to artificially create challenge so the player wouldn't reach the end too fast (and to generate more coin-op revenue).
I love the art and mood, but despise the gameplay. I feel Diablo 3 Hardcore and Dragon Age Inquisition Nightmare modes supply the right combination of challenge and reward without the repetition, tedium, and reliance almost purely on your mental and manual dexterity.
I feel Bloodborne is more appropriate for hardcore console action game fans of the DMC, Castelvania, and Ninja Gaiden ilk, than it is for your typical RPG fan.
The game doesn't require twitch skills. It requires patience and for you to press dodge when an enemy is about to hit you. It's not like a DMC game where you need to master cancels and be all out offensive... BB is a game about proper usage of every action and knowing what you are committing to action wise. Polar opposite to something like.Bayonetta where there is no commitment to your actions as you can cancel an attack onto dodge.
It's not an RPG in the sense where you can grind gear/levels and remove all challenge while you face roll everything in your path (like Diablo). Leveling gives you advantage but in the end skill is the most important parameter.
