FUNimation Entertainment announced at its panel at Sakura-Con on Friday that is has licensed the anime Hyou-ka. The first part will ship on home video in July.

...

Kyoto Animation's 22-episode television anime premiered in 2012. Yasuhiro Takemoto (Amagi Brilliant Park, Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid, Full Metal Panic? Fumoffu) directed the anime, Shoji Gatoh (Full Metal Panic!) handled series composition, Futoshi Nishiya (Free! - Iwatobi Swim Club, A Silent Voice) designed the characters, and Kōhei Tanaka (Onihei, The Laughing Salesman) composed the music.

The story follows a boy named Hōtarō who is not assertive about getting involved, but was ordered by his older sister to join the classic literature club. In the club, he gets close to the truth about an incident, involving a female member's uncle, which happened 33 years ago. The "energy-saving" boy is joined by an inquisitive girl in this adolescent mystery.

The anime has not previously been released in North America.

Soon there will no longer be any excuse for not watching one of the best TV anime of the past decade, and one of the most beautiful TV shows ever made, period. I can't wait to re-watch this master class in animation, art direction, character acting, and character development.

I haven't bought anime in a long time but Hyouka is A+++ and is probably my sixth favorite TV anime. Definitely recommended to anyone who hasn't seen it.

You're giving it too much credit.

The mysteries were pretty tame, barely above Scooby-Doo levels of intrigue.

Weird comparison since Scooby-Doo is literally the same mystery every single time, LOL.

Hyouka is less about the mysteries themselves and more about the journey.

Putting BREAKING NEWS: Kyoto... as the start of your thread when there is a good possibility of North Korea testing a nuke and the U.S. bombing them, is fucking awful. My heart really sank for a good second.

Actually far below that

It was a high school show about the most mundane mysteries like a missing pencil and shit lol

But that was the charm of the show too. I personally enjoyed it

character interaction and development was nice but the mysteries were indeed quite tame

deduction were fun but when place with reality felt more like guess work that happened to be true then actual full deduction

but that was just me

It's a shame it's Funimation. I didn't think the show was very good, but man did it look great and deserves a better release.

oh man

Watching this and and The Tatami Galaxy so close to each other was so great. Very different ways of saying a very similar message.

Now please license the superior The Tatami Galaxy.

True. But on the other hand, I'm happy it's here legally

Oh absolutely. I imported actual Nichijou figures from Japan. I'm estatic its coming.

It's just I've really enjoyed dubs of crazier comedy shows like School Rumble, Excel Saga and Cromartie High School and would love to see Funimation's approach.

"Masterpiece"

That show was dull as fuck.

Looked incredible though, especially that 1st episode.

Kinda agree.

The show was dull, but still, it had it's own unique charm and looked amazing. What actually got me into watching the show was that someone on GAF (I looked it up and it happened to be OP, almost 4 years ago lol) put a pic up about this scene:

Anyways, I say it's worth a watch. To anyone who read's this message and decides to watch the show, I hope you enjoy it.

Hyouka would have been better with half the number of episodes. Or even better like 18 episodes.

There are some that don't amount to much and don't feel like have any continuity.
