“The victim went to the Magistrate’s office, presented the facts of what occurred and attempted to obtain the warrant,” the police in Charlottesville said in the statement. “The magistrate requested that a detective respond and verify these facts. A Charlottesville Police Department detective did respond, verified the facts and a warrant for Unlawful Wounding (Va Code 18.2-51) was issued.”

The charge of malicious wounding is a felony punishable by one to five years in prison. Mr. Harris will turn himself in to the authorities in the coming days, his lawyer, S. Lee Merritt, said on Tuesday.

Mr. Merritt said that the person who brought the complaint had been injured in a separate confrontation, and that the charge had no merit. Mr. Harris, who was holding a flashlight, had been pursued and surrounded, he said.

A third man has been arrested in the beating of a black man at a rally of white nationalists in Charlottesville, Va., in August, the authorities said on Wednesday.

The man, Jacob S. Goodwin, 22, of Ward, Ark., was booked into a detention center in Lonoke County, Ark., on Tuesday night, said Lt. Matt Edwards, a spokesman for the county sheriff’s office. Mr. Goodwin remained there on Wednesday, awaiting extradition to Virginia.

He faces a charge of malicious wounding, according to Kevin Sanders, a supervisory deputy at the United States Marshals Service. A task force arrested Mr. Goodwin without incident at his parents’ house on Tuesday afternoon, serving a warrant from the Charlottesville Police Department, Mr. Sanders said.

Online footage shows Crews trying to spear another counterprotestor with the pole of a Confederate flag, prompting Harris to fight back. Harris swung his flashlight at Crews, appearing to hit him. CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) - A man wanted in connection to an assault in Charlottesville on August 12 has turned himself in to police.

Twenty-year-old DeAndre Shakur Harris turned himself to the Charlottesville Police Department around 8:30 a.m. Thursday, October 12. He was served the warrant charging him with unlawful wounding.

Police said Harris was taken before the magistrate and released on an unsecured bond.

Authorities had issued a warrant for Harris’ arrest on Monday, October 9, after a person filed a charge of malicious wounding with the magistrate.

Three men - Alex Michael Ramos, Daniel Patrick Borden, and Jacob Scott Goodwin - are accused of attacking Harris inside the Market Street Parking Garage on Saturday, August 12.

Harris is scheduled to appear in Charlottesville General District Court Friday, October 13.

i thought the story of what happened, is some white nazi got his ass beat by someone else, so he found a friend who is a judge to issue an arrest warrant for Harris (who wasn't even involved) and thus it was issued. There is video evidence of the guy getting his ass beat by another white guy.

He shouldn't have been charged in the first place, but hopefully the video evidence exonerates him.

Also, glad to hear they got 3 of the Nazis that attacked him. Took them long enough.

Short version is that there is video which shows an altercation before Harris's beating where his friend appeared to be the aggressor, and Harris hit the Nazi in question. Said Nazi got a reasonably serious injury in that location, so it looked like Harris was responsible. This is the evidence that led to Harris's arrest.

But then later in the thread someone digs up another video of the same Nazi getting a clearly stronger blow to the same area (Harris's attack there may not have made contact, or been just a glancing blow: the video isn't clear).

So ultimately the arrest wasn't the dumbest thing ever (not "defending oneself while black"), but does appear to be ultimately unsubstantiated.

I can maybe go look up the videos in that thread, but I'm lazy.
