Ed officially revealed for Street Fighter V

Ed looks about as cool as his name sounds.

Will be happy when we get to Season 3 and past this generic "5 all new characters", which will end up being reused story mode assets. And Ed.

People are still saying this, even after seeing how capcom did a full redesign for the two characters which we have seen in the story mode, geez capcom screws up a lot but give them the credit where it's due they never cheapeaned on any of the characters and their movesets.

We'll get Satsuki, Azam or Kazaam or whatever his name is, and probably some janitor who was in the story mode using his mop like Billy Kane.

I wasn't looking forward to Ed, but he actually looks cool. Not sure about his inputs, I found those style inputs for Nelson confusing in KoF XIV.

You do realize that every newcomer in Season 2 was remade from scratch, right? No Story Mode assets were reused.

Doesn't look like he controls like nelson at all. Both use simplified inputs, but Nelson's actual moveset is complex strings. Ed looks like his moves are standard SF type moves just simplified.

Ed inputs feels like Capcom is experimenting something for MvC:I, heck this whole game seems like a MvC: I beta lol.

They're leveraging story mode assets. So if using the word "remade" is better than "reused", so be it but they're leveraging the blandest set of fighters I can recall in recent memory.

Maybe the janitor will be named Pat.

Remade is better because that's what it is. They're not using story mode assets at all.

It sounds like you are complaining that they are putting characters from the story into the game as combatants. Is that right? What a scandal.

If your complaint is that they're bland, just say that. This "leveraging" bullshit is a non-starter. What are they leveraging? You mean they are using character ideas they already had and turning them into playable fighters? How is that a problem?

I want to see just how far we can strain this poorly-developed criticism, so I'll ask:

How is "remaking" story mode characters somehow worse than "remaking" established characters?
If Sagat is added to the game, for example, he would be made from the ground up, just like Ed was.

Your original post implied disdain for reusing an existing character as a basis...but, isn't that was Sagat is? Or Sakura? Or any fan favorite who wouldn't be an "all new character"?

Can't believe capcom leveraged their concept art to make necalli.

I mean...People wanted Capcom to take story more seriously, and now they're introducing characters through story, creating a narrative, and now people are mad that they're eventually making those characters playable.

It's so strange.

I don't mind characters when they fit. Some feel forced. Urien felt extremely forced in Story Mode. Juri kinda did too. Necalli DEFINITELY felt forced, especially since he does nothing except become a puddle of goo anytime anyone punches him. Just a really disappointing character overall.

I don't mind Ed. I mind him being another Roid Monster. It's just like 'you went from that to this?'

I also think that if you're going to do a story, you need to have a point in having those characters in there. Not just throw them in there, have them lose and call it a day. I'd rather have a Story Mode where you play as 3 characters throughout than 20 characters because I know the narrative will be much stronger with the former.

The disdain comes from leveraging a pile of dull assets. Not that hard to understand. If they reused remade Hakan, Oro, etc., would be one thing. But if you're going to introduce new fighters, don't have them come from a half assed last minute story mode that was slapped together to stop the bleeding.

That sounds like every fighting game story mode to me. /shrug

Not really my point, though. Capcom from 4 to now is creating a narrative, so some of those characters show up in story mode, and now people are saying they're "lazy" for "reusing story mode assets" just because this brand new character had a shitty low poly model in the story mode that is creating the narrative so many people are clamoring for.

The quality is irrelevant to me.

The story mode they announced before launch?

The disdain comes from ignorant consumers that are still mad that Capcom didn't give them everything they wanted at launch.

Ed was in an ending in SF4, it's clear they had planned to have him in a future title. But whatever fits your narrative.

People are mad Capcom gave them the option unlock DLC characters, stages and more for free through Fight Money.

They're not reusing assets, so... You're mad that they're using characters they created? What?

Lol, this is factually wrong. Story mode was announced before the game was even released. And, Ed debuted in SF4, years ago (though his first 3D model debuted in SF5).

I knew if we pressed you enough, you'd reveal you don't actually know what you're talking about.

You don't like Ed because you don't like Ed.

Don't try to sound smart and rationalize it with "reasoning".

I would understand not liking a character just because he doesn't like him i respect that, but don't try to justify your hate with some stupid nonsense.

Why don't you leverage some better words so the rest of us can actually understand what you are complaining about?

What assets have been reused?

Seriously, this? Nothing's been re-used. They could have easily re-used Kolin's story model and no one would have blinked, but they actually spent time and money gave her a new and updated model for her when she became a playable character.

So a move set entirely made up of the oddball inputs like Chun's kicks, Zangief's lariat and Balrog's TAP.

Intredasting.

They haven't reused any story mode assets. Not even for Kolin.

Even if they did, the character model represents like 5% of the work necessary to create a fighting game character.

I think there's an image comparing Playable Kolin to Story Mode Kolin/Helen. The differences are night-&-day.

Really curious anout how he'll handle... Seems like a great idea re the moveset/inputs.

Time to go back to the grind, maybe in a few months I'll get enough points... -.-'

Never thought that Lucky Chloe could seem like a cool design, then I see this creatively bankrupt sub-SF3 weirdo/EX+Alpha Arika shit tier design and I'm like... damn. Can't wait for Tekken. I've drawn better Street Fighters as a kid.
