Week of March 31st to April 6th, 2014.

Fighting Games Weekly is the weekly discussion thread for all things fighting games. News, events, streams, videos, players, drama, everything fighting game related.

Don't know what to watch right now? Check the FGCPros Twitch Group or Jaxel's Stream Viewer. If you want to watch multiple streams at once, you can use Jaxel's customizable multiviewer as well.

New to FGC-GAF is the FGC-GAF Index which lists the fighting games GAFers plays as a neat reference with some rough statistics to boot. To add yourself to the index, quote this post and use the survey link below. Please remember to save/bookmark the "Edit your response" link so you can edit your responses if/when you buy a game already on the list or a new game that releases in the future.

Last week's thread. An archive of previous FGW threads is available here.

Every week, FGW will spotlight one GAFer to get a better picture of their history with fighting games, their preferences, and much more. For this week's FGW Player Spotlight, we will be taking a closer look at our FGW Spotlight saviour, Lambda Piscium!

What fighting games do you currently play, what are your all time favourites and why?
i play some PS2 stuff, mostly Tekken 5 and VF4 EVO. all time favourites are VF5:FS and, for nostalgic reasons, Tekken 2.
What are your favorite mechanics from the current selection of fighting games and why? What are your least favorite and why?
i like Focus in SF4. also Bound in Tekken and wall combos in general.
i dislike most comeback mechanics. always enjoyed that VF kept it honest and didn't make my character faster and more damaging just cause he got 10% life remaining or pushed a bunch of buttons.
What got you into fighting games? Are there any other genre of games you play?
i like fighting and combat sports in general so i felt a natural attraction to the genre.
other than that i enjoy mostly racing, FPS, action, adventure and the occasional RPG.
What is your favorite fighting game character and why?
Wolf in VF and Bruce in Tekken. Wolf because i feel it's a cool representation of wrestling and Bruce due to my love for kickboxing and muay thai.
Describe your style of play, and how do you play (local, online, etc.).
i play online only, sadly have no scene here. my style of play is "push buttons". i never study framedata or anything so i play by "feel".
What do you feel are your biggest strengths and weaknesses as a player?
weakness is the stuff mentioned above. that and poor execution. when i played 2D games i had to pick charge characters cause forget about doing 2xQCF and stuff like that.
strengths... i go all in. commit and jump on the opponent. if he dies, he dies.
Best and worst moments in the your fighting game career?
not much of a career. i won a small Tekken 3 tournament by spamming Paul's Deathfist.
worst was when i organized a small VF2 tournament at my school and lost in the first match.
What do you want from future fighting games?
well, i'm the type that's happy with what we got now. to give an example, i wouldn't change much from TTT2 to TTT3. just rework some Tekken 1 days animations, pretty up the graphics and i'll pay money for it.
Who should be on next week's GAF Player Spotlight?
Professor Beef.

Oh hey I'm next. Good stuff to Lambda, too.

That's...a good question actually.

He is shooting lasers out of his claws/body just like in the comics and the Konami X-Men side scroller.

Super Skrull cannot turn invisible. X-23 can.

Also, Smart Bombs are not smart at all, and Hidden Missiles are no longer hidden when you announce them.

I thought someone said this didn't count as a major? :p

it's more regional status to me, tbh

i basically reserve major for FR and CEO and then EVO is it's own thing

majors have to be like, legitimately huge and gathering folks from around the entire country (and maybe world) rather than the region

the way folks use major now kinda bugs me though i do understand why they use it that way

So what exactly is Wolverine doing in his Fatal Claw super that makes the giant "X"?
I always imagined it to be an old fashioned "faster than you can see" anime attack. Wolverine is slicing all over the place, but all we see is him standing still.

Skrull's arm goes invisible for his command grab. It isn't much, but there it is. If you have the old guides still, check the images there. I can't remember if the Vanilla or Ultimate guide shows it, though.

damn, didn't really post at all in last week's thread. I did watch that justin vs nemo match.

Did he alway dhc into nova after fof loops? It seemed like he changed to 2 meter usage keep the kill easier

Sometimes he does. Sometimes he prefers to use an Eye of Agamotto setup.

If Super Skrull could turn invisible like the comics, it'd be totally rad. It would be like Twelve's taunt all over again!

Does NYC have a Smash scene? If they do, why doesn't NLBC have Smash in the lineup? The FGC seems to be changing its tune with Smash and it seems that the Smash community will go anywhere for a tournament. Also, having Smash helps with more viewers watching the stream.

I'm the same way man. I remember looking at a little frame data when SF4 had first come out but I just gave up looking into it for every release. I just feel things out now.

I think Bum sometimes does smash sessions at his place.

A porn ban must be what keeps their kpop idol groups in business, because I really don't understand. Making a band with 4 girls that look and sound exactly the same just seems so outrageous, but I guess that's why Korea likes Tekken.

I'll accept Tekken = Girls Generation if UMvC3 is Miley Cyrus.

I'm interested in hearing more about this. I'd love to find a Project M scene here in NYC.

Daigo been liftin'
whoa

Daigo is arguably one of the best SF players ever to live, too manly to stick with Marvel, looks good, nice guy, great personality, and can most likely beat everybody up in a real fight except for Rico. What more can you ask for?

To me majors are

SCR
Final round
NEC
NCR
CEO
ECT
Fall classic

Everything else is like a mid major with winter brawl, ufgt and canada cup (lmao) leading that list
