Twenty years ago today this amazing game was released in Japan.

(Technically it is the 21st in Japan right now already)

The iOS port - about as close as you can get to a definitive version of the game outside of the missing battle quotes/airship minigame - is about to get deprecated, too, since it's 32-bit and iOS 11 only supports 64-bit apps.

Here's hoping it gets updated, and here's hoping we haven't seen the last of Ivalice.

My favorite game of all time.

I really, really hope Square will update the iOS port and bring it to PC where it can be kept for future generations. I'm far beyond believing it will ever get the sequel it deserves, so a PC port would be the best possible outcome to ensure it's legacy.

My second-favorite FF game (after FFVI). Boasting a very satisfying implementation of the beloved job system, FFT feels terrific once you really start catching on to how everything works. I've always hoped for a direct sequel (rather than just returning to the more lighthearted world of Tactics Advance).

The writing is sophisticated and dark. And "Blame yourself or God" is one of the best moments in all of video games.

Happy birthday, FFT!

Thank you for waiting to make a real birthday thread, and not doing something like "Tactics came out 19 and a half years ago today."

OT: I need to play this again, it's been too long.

Odd coincidence seeing as I just started playing it for the first time within the last week. Enjoying it quite a bit so far. I'm neither a big FF or TRPG guy but this one has grabbed me. The job system allows a lot of creative freedom even if it is kinda daunting at first.

Not only the best FF game but also the best SRPG. I liked the smaller parties and battles. I liked how badly OP you could make your party. Story was great. Music was great. Screams were great. Why this isn't ported to a newer platform is beyond me.

My second favorite Final Fantasy. The PSP version is my favorite even with the slowdown. Didn't really bother me, plus you can patch it now too.

On my latest playthrough I did my best to not use Cid and to try and power up Cloud. He ended up being just as beastly or even more at times. He has this + ranged attack that inflicts petrify, stop, and either poison or silence, but man. That ended up being useful right even til the end.

Do I blame myself or God at how squeenix hasn't given us a proper sequel to this game yet? At least a remake please.

Loved it! Still have my PS1 copy and War of the Lions copy

My only problem with War of the Lions is it removed all of the dialogue from attacks that could happen once in awhile and it annoyed the hell out of me trying to figure out what seemed wrong when I was playing the game and something seemed "Off" about it
Summons, Heals, Special Attacks, etc, almost everything had something that added a little something unique once in awhile

Still the king and it took me almost 20 years of playing it to really appreciate it.

It's imbalanced, obtuse, overly complex, full of itself, long, unfair, grindy, broken, and perfect in every single way.

I would pay many dollars for a fully realized version with all the WotL stuff and all the Ps1 stuff.

One of my all time favorites. Actually found my copy in my storage a few years ago when I moved. We are long over due for a sequel/another entry.

One of the most amazing RPGs ever made. I wish I had never sold my PS1 copy, although I still have my memory card with my save data.
