Watch the video posted above again if you have not, when he is inside the car the camera just moves about with him in a realistic way, they could make it so if you turn your head 10 degrees it turns 30 degrees in-game, no idea how well the camera can detect faces. They could also make it so you don't even turn your head but move it left and right to make it rotate in the game.
No, you had it right the first time. The software does so-called "motion scaling" so you only have to turn your head a little bit when sweeping your in-game camera around. See this video for a demo of the concept.

If you mapped head motion to camera rotation it would be confusing, non-intuitive, and you would lose all the benefits of being able to move the camera when you move your head.

Great job Turn10.

I was very, very happy to hear dan speak about how you guys have experimented with kinect. It may sound odd to others, but it's refreshing to hear someone say that many things didn't work!

Pity the presentation has been misinterpreted somewhat (I can't believe some people think it's motion control only!).

You have some seriously talented people working for you.
I think you need to shout your geometry compression team a holiday :D

I had to take my car into get serviced today and some of the younger mechanics were talking about what they saw in the conference where he just goes around and looks at the car. One of them mentioned the kinect tech helping those of us that are not so car knowledgable understand the different upgrades and tuning aspects of the game. Sounded pretty cool to me.

But back to Forza 3 are we expecting any new tracks coming as DLC or anthing like that? I really want another fantasy track. For whatever reason I seem to enjoy them more than the real deals.

Give us a free paint tool ala wacom tablet using kinect and you'll have a winner right there. Being able to pain our cars with our hands? day 1.

Knowing Microsoft, they would turn that idea into a retail game and charge full price for it. :lol

They'll call it "Kinectipaint".

Found another video (16 minutes). Shows some dude (press) giving the driving part a go. Looks pretty responsive....and Kinect does its job. He jumped right in and began playing.
The game does the braking and acceleration.

As for the car show off part, considering the level of detail on the car, there isn't as much lag as I though there would be. I remember when I used to do Maya models, and could only move around a model in wireframe mode, or at the very most, flat shaded. So being able to move around a fully detailed car, fully shaded and fully lit, with Kinect having to track your movements is actually quite impressive.

Anyways, the E3 stage conference was most likely faked (so that there was no chance of hiccups), but the content was indeed real.

Don't expect Forza 4 until late 2011, so I'm excited to see what they come up with.

could be another way to introduce the game to a wider audience, as most people dont have a wheel set up. i cant wait to hear more for what they have in store, but its so early i bet we dont see anything for a looooong time.

i wish t10 showed f3 dlc instead :lol

Well moah Forza makes me a happy panda :)

Also who designed Forza 3? Was it Dan or the other dude in the video (never saw him before)?

Dan is the Director. The other guy, Bill, works for Turn 10, I don't know what he does. I remember him demoing the game at last year's E3.

If Forza 4- 4za?- is released for the X360, I just hope all the DLC is backwards compatible in some way. Maybe a free version of each DLC car, or a money bonus to buy it in the next game, and all the downloaded liveries and game saves are backwards compatible, too.

Che, any thoughts?

I support this Idea.

So I finally watched the full 16 minute video and I have to say the showroom part is really, really neat. And yes, it's obviously all running in real-time (still don't know about those screens, however).

And you guys probably already thought of that, but there's one thing that would make the whole experience even more immersive. Wouldn't it be cool if you could see your own reflection as you're walking around the car? Although maybe that would incur too much of a performance hit.

Ok if we get the weather, improved graphics and head-tracking in the next forza in 2011, Ill be all over it. Cant wait to see how the fanatec turbo s deals with a wet track. :D

Can't see the videos on my phone but they must be good to have the GT crew in here trying to downplay them

Someone bump the GT versus Forza trash thread for those poor lost souls.

Art boards for the Crown Jewel and Sedona Raceway Park tracks. Attention, Forza geeks: There is something very interesting about this picture. Can you tell what it is?

Not forza 3 no water mark and it was on the floor not wall. This was noticed by jalopnik when they toured the studio before the dlc release a few months ago.

A new video went up on youtube in HD. This video is taken from the walk-around, meaning you can walk around the car with Kinect and access point of interests which will give you more information on those cars. The text/ui effects (stats around the wheel, rear lights etc.) that you see are in the scene as well.

Available in 720 here.

Any chance we'll get direct feed video of the ferrari passing the slower cars? Dan mentioned that they re-lit the cockpit, redid the textures/materials, and did a few tweaks to the overall graphic engine, but it's hard to tell from the off screen footage.

I didn't know what to expect from that car, but when I saw it only cost about $180,000 I had to have it. Surprising performance without any upgrades at all.

So what problems does the Fanatec wheel have on the xbox 360 in terms of force feedback? That thread you linked was quite old and nobody had played Forza 3 with the wheel back then...

It just does not do real force feedback effect. It has nothing to do with the actual wheel or game. It is matter of X360 console and actual hardware.

I still can't undersand why Microsoft sacrifised one of the own most important franchises and overall driving genre in order to save some money on building costs.

Heck, they've even settled with Immerssion Co. way before Sony did, and Sony just made an firmware update enabling true force feedback once deal was settled.

SOooo much money lost there, if FM2 and FM3 had real force feedback effects and support for true FF wheels they've could sell gazillions of games more.

I really hope they will learn their lesson for the future, I presume Turn10 and other developers are not even remotely happy they can't unleash their physics engine up to the true potential because the whole XID/HID clusterfuck.

its what Forza 3 should have been

shoulda spent 3 more years to get everything done... except a trivial thing like a unified experience using all cars.

Man, I wish the camera allowed more freedom for photos. Let us go farther away and put the camera higher above the car! Fujimi would offer such amazing pics if the camera could just go in better places...

Are you a standard model troll or a premium one with detachable doors?

Anyways, is it possible to gift 20-30k worth of drift points? :lol That damn 100k drift challenge has me pulling out my hair. Most I've gotten so far is about 70k using the Veyron. I don't know what other car to use. :(

I honestly don't see how he's trolling.

I have no allegiance to either game though as I like them both. Nice looking in at the arguments that way.

Heh, but Forza 3 is not missing 80% of the cockpits. 400 cars with 400 interiors, now looking back at people complaining about non-functioning cockpits or lack of super details, I am glad that at least T10 finished all the cars they set out to do.

E3 demo was pretty disappointing, I don't know what else they can do to push even more polygons without having to compromise somewhere because of 360 is now 5 years old. Instead of more polygons and the walk around the cars, I would rather them increase the numbers of cars on track, add in weather, 24 hours mode and improve the photomode output. I would be happy with Forza 3.5 (or Driving Game of the Year Edition or whatever they want to call it) that included all the DLC cars and extend career mode.

From the studio tour leaked pictures, they are working on those features :)

Try the Mitsubishi HKS Time Attack Evolution. I used this to get it on Fujimi Kaido. Keep at it you'll get it. If you go through a turn and think you could of squeezed out a couple more hundred points, rewind.

Here is a good reference for how much points you should have at these checkpoints.
First tunnel: This is just after first turn in race so not much points.
Second tunnel: 26,197
Third and fourth tunnel (they are right after eachother): 72,894
Fifth tunnel (last): 100,019

hope that helps.

Yes, that helps a lot. I'll try again later tonight.
Thanks.

Long time ago I made a nice GTR skin and multiple versions of colours, hardly anyone bought them :( but I think it's real nice to look at. Since I have been playing the game again I took some pictures, been a while since I played around with the photo mode.

Colours might be a little off because at the time I was on the main room LCD tv, which was using vga and only just been adjusted to make the 360 look good on it so this it a little test too :p

The car is also in black/green, reverse orange, blue/white, red/silver and a few others, between 1k and 4k each :D

I am sure a bunch of that was also concept art for forza 3, some of it was in the loading screens on the F3 demo we had, the car crashing one and a white porsche one if I remember right.

Would be great to see good, well done weather, HI-poly models for replay mode as well as photo mode, raise the car count to 12 because 8 just feels too empty now on most of the tracks larger the <1 mi.

This is the car I used and was able to get it on the first try... and I am not particularly skilled at drifting. :D

I basically followed the advice of trying to get every "major" turn to around 1500+ drift points and then try to link as many of of the "minor" turns in between. Don't be afraid to use the rewind feature, I couldn't imagine being able to it without using that. Using this approach I was able to get about 115k I think.

Got about 87k the first try with this car, and 93k the second lap. Getting there.
