I've always loved the look of Happy Hacking boards

Resting your wrists on contoured keyboards will lead to damage just as quick, fyi.
i don't' agree, its much easier to keep your wrist straight if the keys have a slight angle to them.
I guess for gaming if your just using your left hand on it you can twist the whole keyboard to align the keys better, but if your typing its not physically possible if your shoulders are even remotely wide

Ah I misunderstood you. I thought you were buying it for the contoured wrist rest but you are buying for the angled keys. Which is a very smart way to keep your wrists aligned, you are correct!

If this keyboard ever gets released it will put the competition to shame:

But yes, "gaming" keyboards has always been a scam. At least until they jumped on the mechanical trend. I think the value for money is a little bit better now.

This is in my opinion the best keyboard

Leopold Tenkeyless Linear Touch Cherry Red MX (6+4 N-Rollover in USB) - $109
fc200r_full1000_th620x400.jpg

why would you pay $110 for half a keyboard

I spent $100 on a mouse. I haven't really had the desire to spend that much on a keyboard, but I could see the value in it sometimes.

The mouse changed my life. No lie.

Because it feels good, and it gets rid of a part of the keyboard most people don't use. You can buy a numpad separately or buy a version of the keyboard with one if you want one.

membrane gaming keyboards are like wireless gaming mice.

a complete waste of time and money... that's why my mouse has a tail and only five buttons and why my keyboard weighs three pounds and doesn't have macro buttons, sliders, wheels, nobs or a screen. nothing fancy, just high performance.

It's like using the "gaming" adjective skyrockets the device price from $50 and upwards. Some of these keyboards have decent features, for example, the glowing keys, but the price premium? too steep really.

One keyboard from Razer and other from Logitech, suck so much power through the usb port that sometimes they end up not working properly. The most important device is the mouse.

What i would really like is some peripheral developer like Logitech to release a product similar to Sony's Nav controller with a gyro and 2 more buttons, to eliminate the keyboard from the equation.

I know some people got the Nav controller to work, but it's not compatible enough so someone like Logitech with the influence they have could do a good work establishing this type of product.

Why on earth are those Happy Hacking keyboards $300?
Topre switches. They're a complicated type of switch that combines a silicone dome, a specially shaped spring, and capacitive sensors. People like them because they've got an absurdly long lifespan and feel amazing to type on.

to maximise your desk space when playing FPS games? if i could afford a HHK i'd have one.

Topre's hybrid capacitive switches and high quality keycaps. They're expensive, but even better than mechanical Cherry switches. I prefer the tenkeyless ones with arrow keys over the HHKB, though.

I like mechanical and scissor switch keyboards. So I just choose whatever feels better for the day (admittedly 99% of the time my mx brown filco)

That is one hell of a desk setup.

Cherry or bust friend you are backing the wrong horse.

Used many a brand with pretty much everything but clears.

Buckling spring is the way to go. That and I'm just a sucker for old school stuff. But this board is a tank and so are the switches. There's a good reason IBM boards from 20+ years ago are still kicking around today.

Personally, I'd prefer something like the G13 with a bigger analog stick in a better position, mechanical keys in a more sensible layout, and no silly price-inflating LCD.

N52 original edition > N52te > N50 > G13. imho.

Plagiarize, you never seemed to me like the guy that gives these short trivial answers, so an explanation from your part would be apreciated as always :)

My reasoning comes from the experience, when playing in the dark sometimes it becomes difficult to search for the correct key. Other of the "decent" features of these scams devices are a local headphone and USB port.

Tried at a friends house, it was ok, but not 50 bucks ok. A device like the nav controller with some motion sensing would be more confortable to me and would allow for more freedom of postures.

sometimes i can be a bit of a dick ;)

basically, if you go back and look at the picture i posted of the keyboard i have, you'd understand my feeling on a backlit keyboard. i find the glow a distraction in a dark room, personally. and obviously if i thought it was helpful, i wouldn't have a keyboard with blank keys.

9535422543242844.jpg

not what you're looking for either, but better than the G13, and cooler too. the current TARDIS console sports one of these babies (though it might be an N52te, i haven't got a good enough look yet).

good enough for the Doctor? good enough for me.

This is what ive been looking at in the Cherry MX Brown Switches types, Filco Majestouch NINJA Tenkeyless.

tenkeyless. blank key faces to help me not look at the keys, but i can cheat if needed :)

i got a logitech g19. its a bit wank but i like it and when i was doing my new PC build it made me happy. the LCD screen is cool and the LED colour lights are awesome. only keyboard i use thats needs a power supply

That's the one I have. I like the clean look from a top view but I can cheat. :p

Edit: Actually, I've got the Majestouch-2. Thought that's what was pictured since they look alike.

Quick question about mechanical keyboards: Just how loud are they? I hear all these good things about them, but noise is a genuine concern for me, because the people in the house all have sharp ears and I don't want them to be distracted/woken up by clicky noises.

I love my Sidewinder X4 which cost less than $50. Macros, backlit keys, and the ability to press up to 26 keys simultaneously without ghosting.

They're pretty loud compared to your average rubber dome style keyboard if you are bottoming out each keystroke as most people do when they type. Topre switches and linear Cherry MX switches are quieter than the tactile switches, especially if you become accustomed to typing without bottoming out while typing.

They are a bit loud, especially the ones with Cherry MX Blue Switches like Smokey's BlackWidow.

i posted this earlyer and it give a lot of info about the differant types.

The Mechanical Keyboard Guide

LOL at you OP!! No disrespect but I have the exact same one as you at work, and while it's good it's nowhere near as good as a mechanical keyboard!

I just got my Ducky DK1008 Brown Cherry today:

Ducky Keyboard - DK1008 BELLB ABS Brown Cherry ($80)

DuckyOC_DK1008BELLB_ABS_BROWN.jpg

... and you can feel the difference almost immediately after just typing a few words... it's another feeling, and I'm just not talking about gaming but for typing (which in my case is 90% of my keyboard usage).

They keys are not pasted in like stickers, they're laser printed, and the keyboard has a heavy feeling (which obviously is because it weights more) that gives you a sensation of a resistant and well made article.

You just can't say anything before you try Mechanical Keyboards... it's leagues away from the "Gaming Keyboards" (such as my old Razer Tarantula) and way better than conventional generic membrane keyboards (like the ones in blackberrys lol).

Repent yourself OP!

Thanks for both expanding the answer and the recommendation.

In my case i have other devices that glow, but the light from the monitor cancels any annoyence, yet it's not potent enough for me to discern the keys.

At the present state of affairs gaming keyboards are a scam, but if the manufacturers were willing to build keyboards with some of the best features with more resonable prices it would be worth to at least consider them.

A mind blowing feature to me would be a keyboard that worked both wired and wirelessly. When wired it would have the good response times for a gaming session. Wireless for the more casual use. Something in the size of the MS arc keyboard but with actual good keys.

How do people deal with the fact keys lose their matte finish? That's something that drives me crazy and that's why I've never wanted to spend a lot on keyboard and mouse.
