Would really like to know about SSD compatibility. I'd love to pop a 500GB SSD in this PS4... but am not going to spend the money until I know there is a solid performance gain.
New update. from google translate :
"to update the sound development of the PS4. In the laboratory, the editor measures the "noise" that produces the console menu mode. After ten minutes of run time are the Sone 0815, measured 40 inches away from the device. At this distance is heard a slight noise. By comparison, the first version of the PS3 is after ten minutes at 0.83 sone."

I doubt this would happen. Until we know how much of that 500GB is lost to the OS though, I'm not sure I'd suggest such small drives.Likewise, I'd like to know if putting a 128GB or 256GB SSD in it would be viable or would it complain about the storage being less than expected?
I'm starting to have doubts about whether they'll really disassemble the console :/
I'm surprised no one has changed the thread title to reflect the minds blown by the Sony screw.
They just wrote that they can't make a statement about the SATA interface yet. Dat NDA.

In the comments they said already, that they will do that in the coming weeks, not now.I'm starting to have doubts about whether they'll really disassemble the console :/
"Nein, momentan gibt es leider keine weiteren Bilder zum Innenleben der Konsole. In kommenden Wochen bis zum Start der PS4 liefern wir derartige Details aber nach"

Translation: No, unfortunately there won´t be any more pictures of the console innards right now. In the coming weeks until PS4 launch we will provide these kind of details.
... Sony would not restrict that information if the answer was the one we wanted. They just wrote that they can't make a statement about the SATA interface yet. Dat NDA.

Ok now that we know where the HDD is located can someone tel me what is this strange cover near the bottom :
Well my insider friend told me that it's where the secondary dedicated GPU will be placed.
Sony didn't include it yet to fool MS into thinking the difference between the PS4 and the Xbone is negligible.
And because of NDAs.
Soon everything will be pretty clear, and the real power of the PS4 (around 6.7 hyper flops) will be revealed!
Take that MisterXmedia! =D
I'm going to shed a tear if it's not SATA3. I mean honestly... what kind of cost difference are we talking about between the two formats? A nickel? It's probably more like "don't open up the console", not "don't tell them it's SATA2!"
and it's packed full of llallo.

DS3 weighs 190gram..
Ha! Love the German thoroughness of what they're doing.

They didn't even use a high precision scale. As a German, I am ashamed.
DS3 weighs 190gram..
How much is that in American weight?
Oh god. Hahaha. Laughed way more at that than I should have...About a big mac.
are 12.5mm drives all that common?
the only drives on newegg are 9.5 or 15
Oh god. Hahaha. Laughed way more at that than I should have...
well yeah i know you can still use 9.5, but what i'm getting at is, if most of the higher capacity drives are 15, youre basically stuck with 9.5 anyway then. the extra space for fitting 12.5 doesnt seem all that useful if no one is making drives that size

$1.00 now$1? so 100million dollars across a generation?
Can't wait to lump my 1.5TB drive in there.
The PS3 really does look out of place in that mix.
So...this thing takes 2.5" HDDs right?
Yes, and in regular (9.5) or medium-large (12.5) mm height.
