Miyamoto on next Zelda for Wii: Link could not have the sword anymore! And much more.

You sir, are a genius.
Not to mention the top of her head is split and sharp like a sword tip.

Just imagine the entire game uses the art style of that image though, and that it's not just a promotional artwork for the game. That would be amazing.

Nintendo's so weird. Why didn't they just release this at the roundtable? Did they just want to wait until E3 was over so it seems like they ended with a bang?

Anywho, artwise, I really like what I see. Link really looks the same age though.

I've always loved the Wind Waker Fairy designs, so that's a thumbs up.
The Master Sword resemblance is pretty obvious, but I don't care if she's going to be the sword or not. Just do something interesting Nintendo.

Anyone think this pic deserves its own thread, or that this thread should get a title change (artwork released!)? There are probably a lot of people who think the pic hasn't been released.

There was already one made discussing the artwork (before it was released) and honestly, anyone who's interested has been looking into this topic, considering how often it's bumped.

She really is the sword...

The guard of the MS is fashioned into her cloak, the pommel/hilt is her head, the shoulder of the sword is the bottom of her skirt, and of course the diamond ornament is the same on both...

True, though I do think a title change is needed.

Am I the only one who sees a big ass face to the left of Link made out of rocks with a gnarly ass chin. Goddamn I'm good.

I noticed it too. There's another one underneath looking very concerned. Also a happy whale on the left.

I didn't know the pic had been released until just this second. And yeah, it looks like she is the sword.

First thoughts: the girl looks a lot like the Queen of the Fairies from Wind Waker, but this could be a coincidence.
I called it in the other thread!

what do I win?

I really like the potential behind this, with the Master Sword having an even deeper meaning than just being a tool used to smite Ganon...I wonder if any other of Link's weapons/items will have human manifestations as well...

You're ignoring the fact Miyamoto said it's in a completely different era from the other games...I think the sword theory holds more promise
that's besides the point. i would say that the era between post Ganon OoT and WW is pretty different than that of any other Zelda series. the time period is completely possible, and while i'm really just hoping blindly, the other suggestions are about as plausible as mine, with the nothing we know.

I wouldn't put money on that idea.

Look at the master sword again...its so obvious.
oh no, don't get me wrong. there's some clear cut connections here, there's just so much that it could be otherwise. the girl is VERY clearly the modeled after the Fairy Queen, so the whole girl=sword deal i just think is jumping the gun a bit. she could be anything from the fairy guardian of the sword, to a personification of its power, to the original forger of the sword, to even, yes it's possible (though i'm not entirely convinced it's likely) that the girl is a personification of the sword itself. we just have nothing at this point to draw any absolute conclusions, as there seems to be a slight bit of conflict.

Could it be the origin of the Master Sword? The girl sacrifices herself to the 12 Sages to become a weapon to fight evil?

You know, I think Nintendo planned this.
I mean, we're probably going to talk about this single artwork more than any trailer they would have released...

Ganon travels back in time and destroys the Master Sword and yet another alternate reality is created. It will be revealed that the metal of the blade was orignally a piece of a "fallen star". A wayward Link will have to trek into space to get another piece, and save the kingdom for Empress Zelda, who, this time around, falls in love with Tingle.

Next Zelda will look to Ico / Prince of Persia as the previous one did Okami. Hell, Twilight had enough slight SOTC nods as well to indicate such.

I doubt it. Miyamoto and Co. try to remain ignorant of what other creators are doing. That's something they've received a lot of criticism but also praise for.

All i know is that Ganondorf is gonna be looking her. Before, since the Master Sword was a... sword, we didn't really have to worry about its well being, now we do. What a tweest indeed. Makes it worse that it's the only thing that can stop him, yet it's a little girl.

Well, if the Master Sword becomes sentient (perhaps there's a trapped soul inside the sword)... or it's actually a living sword. That would be different.

Definitely doesn't make things up as he goes along.
psssht, that's clearly a grown-up Navi

and Link is such a pimp. He never have any male friends :lol

Maybe all the weapons you use in the game are one magical weapon that can turn into any of them.

It starts off weak, then you get new powers so it ca turn into other weapons, etc.

Actually that seems likely. Instead of using a sword, it might focus a lot more on puzzle solving using a second non-playable character that you need to direct (waggle waggle).

Oh no, keep escort missions out of my Zelda.

Also, I think the Zelda storyline is too convoluted for its own good. :lol

Ooh me too.

Although she'll probably turn out to be the helper/Navi/Midna of this game in all likelihood.

He spends an awful lot of time around women he's not trying to screw. That raises questions.

But if this takes place before OoT, there would be no Ganon yet. The war in which the sword was used to seal the Sacred Realm happened when the hero of time was a baby, so if this is a prequel, it probably occures before even that war (cuz if it happened durring there would be two Links at the same time).

Okay, lets just slow things down a bit. It's been a long night and I think we all need some sleep.
