Seriously Microsoft? All that technology and THAT'S what you're putting out? You better give away some teratons for this to work.

Holy fuck! Where are the hardcore games?

It is not possible to make any serious hardcore game without a controller with this level of technology.

I hope nobody was seriously expecting anything else. Its application in hardcore titles will be relegated to secondary, ancillary features which everyone will ignore and rightfully so.

Without a controller, doesn't matter how much of your body the technology can recognize, you're limited an extremely tiny subsection of games that appeal to a section of the market that isn't you or me.

I'd never thought they'd actually make a racing game where you use your hands like a steering wheel.

Joyride will be a trainwreck.

so am I right to assume kinectimals is pretty much black and white without any of the rts or playing god?

What's happening with Paint Party? the game they showed last e3 where they demoed painting an elephant?

(also how is this 12 games?)

I don't understand why people are being so harsh on this.

Probably because a lot of people here had a lot invested in Natal being more than just "ugh, casual" games, so when we have:
  • Natal becoming "Kinect"
  • The first games revealed being "ugh, casual"
  • The first games being so reminiscent of titles like Wii Sports (Kinect Sports) and Nintendogs/Eyepet (Kinectimals)
  • No sign of the imagined hardcore application of the technology
...it's not too surprising that there's a bit of... disquiet :)

I am hoping Microsoft's reasoning behind a separate reveal for Kinect is to allow the business as usual conference tomorrow to commence. At least we can hope.

I'm laughing so much at Kinectimals :lol

I wish they'd waited till E3 to show it. The audience would've gone more quiet than Ridge Racer :lol :lol :lol :lol

I'm pretty sad about this bullshit, yet I can't help feeling at least a little good knowing that so many dreams were crushed today.

Joyride, a racing game, lets players use their hands to hold an imaginary steering wheel — pull your hands toward you and push back out for an acceleration boost — and their bodies to execute jumps and tricks.

I was wondering what happened to this Arcade title.

Even homebrew porn games couldn't save this. I already have a Wii and those games. Give me some innovative features incorporated into traditional controller games!

Wii Sports have been out for FOUR YEARS.

Microsoft's focus groups, research, millions upon millions, R&D, marketing, and experience, and the best they can come up with to counter it is KINECT SPORTS!?

This is the funniest, as in haha funny, generation ever!

Sure it's possible, RTS games would be great with this kinda stuff. Nothing else though :lol

Um... well... considering MS' track record, I'm amazed that the Kinect name didn't leak earlier than today.

I hope we see that Kinect "gamers' game" Capcom was talking about a few months back, as I'm curious how anything at all core-oriented is supposed to work with Kinect controls.

They'll probably release casual stuff to get the broader audience.

The hardcore folks can be addressed later since they're not going anywhere with current games. I'm hoping Kojima could do something interesting with Nata...I mean Kinect. Sneaking around as Snake without controller! :lol

I'm still hopeful of something more. But, the straight line derivation of both Nintendo AND Sony's prior motion efforts is worryingly obvious. Which isn't to say some of this stuff can't be fun, obviously, but I would like to see some indication that MS will broaden the scope of camera-based gaming beyond this kind of stuff.

I dunno.

edit - also, and absolutely assuredly, this thing can't be more than $100. The disconnect with the apparent pitch here on the content front would be just too much.

I take it we didn't get titles for these because they're still trying to figure out how to latch the word "Kinect" onto them in a very clever way
It doesn't even need to be clever - look at Kinectimals! It doesn't work at all - so please welcome Kinectitar Wars! YEAH!

god i hope nobody was dreaming about NATAL. That'd be sadder than the product we actually have!

Hey, you guys wished for a Wii future. You guys got it. Suck it up and look into the face of the devil. Careful what you wish for.
