I like Jess, truly I do, but my first feeling was disappointment when they cut to her on the bed. The straight-woman dynamic Reagan has with the rest of the cast is fantastic, turns out that's precisely what the show needed. Everyone has more room to be funny playing off her instead of the Jess cartoon. Plus Reagan episodes felt inclusive in a way this one didn't. Oh well. At least I can finally say I'm a fan of Megan Fox's work!

Can we talk about how awesome Winston's truth bomb was there at the end of the episode with the comment card stuff?

Damn man. Right on Winston. Right on.

"I pick up all my deliveries at the port."

"The what, at the port?"

"Yeah"

"What are you doing at the port?"

"Picking up my deliveries, listen."

Whenever a game uses "middleware," I expect mediocrity. Just see how poor TLOU looks.
I told you guys the show would suck once Jess returned, and look at what happened!

I think I may put New Girl next to Big Bang Theory in the "no longer worth watching" trash bin.

show's been fantastic with Jess back. This week was especially awesome, thought the A-story with Schmidt's dad struck just the right tone while the rest of the guys got to go off and be hilarious. Loved Nick volunteering that he'd given Schmidt his rectal vitamin then pulling back. "Have I done it again since? No."

If all DLC came tied to $13 figurines, I'd consider all DLC to be free

The last episode was quite good though.

Loved this most recent episode. Especially the stuff with Schmidt and his dad. Peter Gallagher was a good choice for the role I think. The back and forth with Nick and Winston was fun too. And everyone being uncomfortable about Jess and Schmidt's dad making out was hysterical.

Man. Just watched all the Reagan episodes and absolutely loved them - started the episode where she's leaving and somehow Jess ruins the show literally instantly.

Damn

Episode 13:
Sam, Again
- Jess learns the principal at the progressive new school she is applying to is dating her ex; when Nick gets a cold, Schmidt quarantines the roommates to prevent himself from getting sick before his presentation.

Everyone tells Jess not to do something stupid.

Jess does something stupid.

And the Winston and Schmidt storylines just got quick joke scene endings. Boo this A plot.

TVLine has learned that the Zooey Deschanel Jake Johnson comedy will begin airing two new episodes on Tuesday nights, beginning April 19 and concluding with the May 10 season finale.

According to a Fox rep, the double-pumps are purely out of necessity, since New Girl‘s fifth season runs a full 22 episodes but didn’t premiere until January.

All told, New Girl‘s final run of installments will go like this: The April 19 episodes will air back-to-back from 8 to 9 pm. Then, starting April 26, new half-hours will air from 8 to 8:30 and 9 to 9:30 pm.

Awesome ep. the Montessori school stuff probably won't have legs but it was funny for a half hour ("who are we to tell the children what to learn?" "Their teachers?"). Jess was also spot-on in describing Nick as "throat-punchable". And bringing Sam back did deal with the insular insanity of the group really well.

the puppet show was hilarious (that flying E especially), Schmidt trying to hold in a sneeze killed me. Thought Winston's story ended perfectly too, the arc was for him to give someone else a chance and showing more of whether that girl "worked out" would be contrived, the point is that he's out there trying to date and the small date scene was cute.

Really digging Connie. Hopefully they stick with her having no interest whatsoever in Nick which they probably won't.

Man they're really driving the Jess is awful thing into the ground. Breaking a restraining order this time? Really?

Damn what a shit ending to the episode with Jess being even more insufferably idiotic than normal. Did the writers suffer through a gas leak in their room?

My wife has a little less interest in the show than me but this has actually pissed her off. It makes the whole Nick/Jess arc a masterpiece in comparison, and they went and fucked it up twice in this episode with what seemed like a redeeming moment just faceplanting all over again.

Did they change writers or something the past couple seasons? They're pretty much running Jess in to the ground as a character.

Jess is supposed to be a representation of the showrunner/creator Liz Meriwether, who's still in charge of the show. It's certainly weird. Especially jarring when all the other characters are on point (Cece finally integrated fully), and they had no trouble introducing a decent new one with Megan Fox.

AV Club speculates it's leading somewhere with Jess, the way the show is looking back over the characters and keeping her apart from Nick but it's really not working.

Man, Jess as become insufferable and literally dumb. She doesn't make any sense and just doesn't make any sense. And that stupid forced love story...

I haven't watched this since the end of season 2 / start of season 3. The jokes felt overdone and got old, plus they got "whackier and whackier". Should I jump back in? Should I skip the other seasons, and if so, can you fill me up on what I missed?

I'd forgotten about this until last week, but Schmidt played a younger version of Peter Gallagher on The OC, in a weird co-incidence...

I missed the news as it was a few weeks back, but Reagan will be back, both this season and seemingly the next from other articles. Yay!

PRE-FINALE: Viewers who loved Megan Fox's early-season arc are in luck: Reagan will be back, but she and Nick may not be able to pick up their romance where it left off. Even though "Nick has been harboring some long-distance feelings," according to executive producer Brett Baer, "there has been some growth for Nick and Jess" by the time Reagan reenters the picture, which happens "at a particularly important moment" for the pseudo-love triangle. Also occurring in the home stretch of Season 5: potential romance for Winston and Aly, father-son bonding for Schmidt and his dad, played once again by Peter Gallagher ("One of the sweeter elements of the last few episodes," Baer teases) and the return of the drinking game True American — this time with a White House-related twist.

SEASON FINALE (May 10): Having tried his hand at a Cece wedding once before, Baer says he and his fellow EPs "knew we had to be surprising and different" with her and Schmidt's season-ending nuptials -- and they'll live up to that expectation. "We came up with some fun ways of turning the episode upside-down and giving the audience a fun ride."

I forgot that Prince was on this show last season.

What's with the two episodes?

They've got too many episodes left, they'd be airing into June if they kept doing one a week. It's a full season that started this year due to Zooey's pregnancy.

"That's a lot of dough!...I'm trying to wink. Am I winking?" plus the baby disguises plan made me want high Jess to be a regular guest star

Two good eps, wouldn't've called this but the bachelorette ep was better than the bachelor one. Glad they took the Winston/Aly story to a new step finally.

Am I wrong? That double whammy was spectacular. Best episodes in a long time. AV Club agrees. Great gimmick focusing the episodes up by splitting the cast. They made high Jess out to be super chaotic, but it's the most tolerable she's been since her return.

Winston and Aly storyline delivered too. Pedrad's pilot got pushed back to midseason - if it even gets picked up - and it's on Fox, so hopefully she can stick around for guest appearances and they don't have to give him yet another "it didn't work out" storyline.
