This specific bit I can clarify.

GTS is more detailed in terms of pure polygon counts, such as wheel arches and headlight curves having no hard edges visible. However, Forza's are more detailed in terms of "things" as the majority of cars have their engines fully modelled as you can open the bonnets in autovista. GTS doesn't have a car exploration feature, so only cars with exposed engines have their engines modelled.
It's worth pointing out that the models don't have more 'things' modeled in forza. They have engines modelled for the Forza vista mode where you open the bonnet but exterior and interior detail they actually have less 'things' than GTS.

So this is what you call a "heavily compressed" video and "not the representation of the games"??

You can honestly say your 16ms captures are a better "representation of the game" than this 4K60 3:22 video of a full track?
Watching it at 4K

1º GTS
2º Forza
3º Moto Toon Grand Prix

GTS
better lighting, better reflections, better material (relfection)
Forza
more accurate track?, steeper corkscrew, arcade look, elongated car model for "faster speeds?", a perma haze filter, fog all time on screen? Huh? something is off with the reflectios (top)
Project Cars 2
#LOL .. terrible track, vfx, flat like a 90 year old chest

Streaming -wise Skirroko delivers the best IQ 500MBit

EDIT:

After watching it (without NIGHT LIGHT :p) and further analysis :

Car Model (they´re all close)
1º Project Cars 2 (best IQ (car only) due high quality AA)
2º GTS (thanks to adaptive tessallation? and some type of weak AA, bit blurry though)
3º Forza 7 (no AA, more crisp but also rough around edgesm around a-pillar)

Shadows
1º GTS (overall best, rear wing casts shadow, rear car is dark when it needs to be)
2º Prject Cars 2 (HQ but not much better than FM7)
3º Forza (missing, baked, double shadows under the car? no rear spoiler shadow etc.)

Track
1º Forza (corcskrew)
2º GTS (weak ass crocscrew)
3º PC2 (flaaaat, no height)

Textures
1º GTS (rough track textures, with marks)
2º PC2 (skidmarks all over the place, too much "urban like")
3º Forza (road track = flat, one color, too bright and clean)

Lighting
1º GTS (especially around tokyo, urban tracks, less on real life ones)
2º Forza

Reflections (all 3 are over-exaggerated)
1º GTS (overall better than the other two, bright sun (HDR), less around noon (lifeless))
2º PC+Forza (frankly speaking just terrible, pay attention to the rear of the car ... the image gets projected all over the rear, while in GT only the lit parts reflect the "madaza cross linie" - thingy)

But in general all 3 are excessively polished. Forza the whole car is closer to a chrome effect and GTS depending on the setting (day), is not much better. They need to tone down this, bit more "matte".

Track in the Video (Laguna Seca)
Forza : feels more like a track in the dessert, they probably used the assets from that saudia arabia track and copied it over. Even the trees look burned, way too dry, arid.

GTS : copied over the assets from a different track. Pretty sure that Laguna Seca has no "green trees" around the track. In this case bet both are inaccurate (trackside details).

All 3 suck balls "trackside", waaay too low polygons used. Especially noticeable at 4K. Hence why i believe : nothing comes close to GTS Tokyo during night or day. Urban tracks look dope in GTS and on real tracks, better to tone the lighting down (race during dawn, night) for best vfx.

Less hotair ballons and animals or parked cars and more high quality trackside assets in general. A lot better reflections aka less wax, less polish and more detailed and HQ.

FM7 good reflections versus bad

GTS Laguna is nearly identical to real life

The curbs are different color beacause real life video was made before they painted them red

Here a more recent video:

FM7 vs GTS comparision (not mine)

F7 PC Max except car detail, 1080p @ 125% res scale downsample.

GTS framerate 1080p mode

Forza7

First off those are not Forza on Ultra, just look at the textures and af. Secondly The photomode picture's are not the same as the gameplay graphics, Since GTS is enhancing the graphics in photomode while Forza not. And he zoomed in Forza wich doesn't render the zoomed distance like GTS. GTS in photomode renders whats on screen while in Forza photomode the zoom is just zooming and doesn't render better details or lod in the distance when zoomed. And when u compare them in real gameplay pictures, unlike that blurred pics you post with motion blur and Forza's photomode, you can see that the track has more detail in Forza and better textures while GTS has the better lighting. Also why are they in motion in the first pictures? to hide all the detail differences?

Look here both in gameplay and almost the same lighting conditions, look at the building, tents, textures and draw distance. The trees look bad in both games, Forza is higher quality while GTS trees react better with the lighting and environment, wich they also cast real time shadows.

Mmm... maybe you're right, that's why I stated they aren't mine.
I thought the blurry look on the Forza ones were due to the 125% res scale downsample to 1080p.
And I thought he was using the "Frame Rate" 1080p mode of GTS because it features a good gameplay motion blur (in cameras other than cockpit) which is no surprise that makes everything look better and adds a great sense of speed.

I haven't touched Forza's photomode (and barely checked the GTS one), so I really don't know about those modes tricks or whatever. These are the ones that caught my attention the most:

FM7

GTS

FM7

GTS

I thought a bit cherrypicked to favor GTS lighting system working on vegetation.

GTS lighting system doesn't need to be cherrypicked, it looks incredible even in gameplay. If there is one thing you can't argue about PD, it is there team behind there lighting engine. The guys are obsessed with photorealistic lighting model, and they nail it every time.

Are those tetures taken from a scaletrix set? It doesnt look like that in LeMans.

"Might not be present ..." sure DF

You mention DF, they proclaim GTS has betta lighting.

Forza
- fog a la Silent Hill to hide "stuff"
- no backgrounds
- shitty 2d trees
- shitty 2d crowds
- "cool lighting"
- crysis 1 godrays 2007 & bloom
- fake shadows & under the car
- missing shadows
- fugly replays (still suck, does it still "lag, load" when switching between players?)
+ proper4k
+ 700 cars and more
- has huge puddles ... like 1 foot deep, totally realistic
- can drift with limousine
- V.I.P shitstorm, among other issues&bugs

GTS
+ HQ lighting (not on every track)
+ background buildings
+ 3D trees & crowds casting shadows
+ higher quality car models
+ best replays
+ better HDR implementation (600 nits and more)
- bad fictional tracks imho (except for Tokyo, they somehow dont fit to GT (parts of tracks like death chicane))
- less cars
+ better online (at least based on my research) aka no mayhem

The trees in Forza look so bad. The ones on GT look ok... never thought a GT game would improve its trees lol

My attempt at this in Assetto Corsa. :messenger_grinning_sweat:
Should have put a sky with more clouds instead of clear but whatever.
Still aiming for that GTS bloom goodness, not quite there yet but it is more similar now.

The Ford GT here is a mod with not the best quality (not the best interior detail and it doesn't have a proper windshield), so I throwed a third lap with a Ferrari 458 Italia by Kunos with a more detailed cockpit and dirt and reflections on the windshield.

Assetto Corsa - Laguna Seca - Ford GT - Ferrari 458 Italia
Mods + Real Head Motion + Custom PPF + Reshade

With the shader patch AC has the best motion blur of the lot by far. Love some smooth object-based blur. It holds up surprisingly well for its age and from what looks to me to be non-PBR. Just a shame the chase cam's attachment to the car is so awkward.

Forza Motorsport 7 vs Gran Turismo Sport Mount Panorama early morning Part 1, Its a big track :). And i have to say its the worst looking track in both games, they have some pretty bad trees and geometry on some places. I hope they both upgrade there track details next gen.

Yeah, not the best track, but again, what a coincidence that all your conditions favor Forza. Different sun position/shadows and, oh surprise, only the Forza ones have some pretty bloom/god rays, one of the things GTS does best. Only some of the GTS ones have full back lighting, the worst possible case. No TAA on GTS, of course.
You don't even bother to hide the HUD. You could disguise your Forza preference a bit better, you know.

The reason i didn't hide the hud in GTS is because some people here think i post in time trail where the track is empty, no tents, trucks, crowd and other track day stuff. So this way they can see that its in race mode. And i didn't favor Forza, there are even worse places on this track in GTS that look like a ps2 game but i didn't post those screens. Tryna keep it fair, the sun maybe not in the same direction but its closest tod that you can match. Also Forza has sun rays while GTS doesn't, it has bloom only and its not to favor Forza. In part 2 the second image in GTS has the sun in the corner behind the tree like the other Forza image but there is no sun ray coming thru. And i prefer the normal lighting in GTS over Forza's hollywood style lighting, but Forza has more track details as usual. No tod can change the polygons and detail in the environment like in the 3th picture in part 2. Also this is one of the better tod in GTS on this track, there are other ones where it wil shock you how bad the track details actualy really look but im not gonna use those conditions f its not close enough to compare. Now that would be cherypicking. Its just less detailed but has better lighting. And if you whant to see the sun in GTS on this track here you go, no difference

You can nit pick which one has better reflections, or track textures, or 3d trees, or mirror reflections, but which game offers the most?
Forza - 700 cars
GTS - 162 cars

Forza - 30 tracks
GTS - 17 tracks

Forza just offers the player so much more and shows a greater level of scope. The amount of hours you will get exploring new cars and mastering more tracks is just on another level.

Forza all day every day.

Those are better, but hiding the HUD and enabling the TAA would make GTS look better. I know, I know, Forza still has better resolution, details and AA, but try at least to make both look the best you can, not just only one.
Besides that, I think you'll agree that GTS gains a lot when using it's great HDR implementation. Forza, not so much.

Sure, but more is not better. I would prefer for some GTS tracks to be better (LOD, details) or the game to have more options ( like dynamic tod and weather in all tracks, seat adjustments, options to remove wheel and driver's hands ) than have more and more cars and tracks.

In Forza I would love better lighting, physics and wheel support/FFB.

Let's hope next ones they fix all or most of this. Seems we will see some GT7 news soon.

Forza went over and above. Now while people may "hey, what the hell you gonna do with 700 cars, and 80% of them you have never heard of?", there is another side to it, one that shows what Forza is about.
I live in Australia. Australia has a very distinguished performance car culture. We have a big muscle car tradition and people went to war over Ford vs Holden (Aussie will know what I mean). We have the most and best Nissan GTRs outside of Japan. People in the states are coming here to try and get them now they can be imported. Australia and New Zealand was the only places outside of Japan that Nissan originally sold the Godzillas to. We have some of the best roteries in the world. And not to mention the Australian engineered Ford Barra inline 6 turbo, an engine ranked up there with the RBs and 2Js.
So with this in mind Forza has paid tribute to these cars, and you can drive inconic Australian sports cars, from the Ford GT HQ 351, Wilkinshaw Holden Commodore with a turbo RB etc etc.
This is why what Forza has done above all else. There is also Australian race tracks.
Thats what I mean by being on another level. It just is. No other racer comes close.

The second comparison pictures in the first set of Bathurst show that the trees and grass in Forza is much better vs GTS. Just goes to show its not every track where GTS has better foliage.

Look at the details in the leaf fingers and density of the canopy in Forza. Also the density of the grass vs the bare spotty effort in GTS.

Very nice from the Forza team on this track.

Stop lying pls,GTS now has 331 cars of the highest quality and 28 track locations,
On forza yes you have 700 cars and tracks but many of them are badly modeled and ported directly from old gen forza games.

Read somewhere a quote from a professional driver that said "racing sims replicate all of the real stuff... except the fun part." :messenger_tears_of_joy: but I think he was talking more about hardcore pure sims on PC than GT or Forza.

Horizon series has been one of my favorites too. It certainly left Need for Speed in the dust and Sony could learn a lot from its success (12+ million users).

I think Codemasters hit that sweet spot of fun in past titles, but now they are a bit lost. It's either too hardcore like Dirt Rally 2 or shameful piles without content like GRID 2019.
Id agree. Alot of the fun of driving is the physical feeling you get from a well designed car. You cant replicate that easily, or in an affordable way.

Nah, Forza is the king of racing sims. Trying to put it down because you dont have it wont change that.
The fact that GTS is trying to play catch up with Forza just proves it. You got some extra cars? Forza got an extra franchise, horizons. And it is the best car game bar none. Open world, hit the streets, cruise, race, explore. Its just awesome.

Holy hell, this thread is just a fan boy war.

Anyway, haven't played racing games in a long time and just picked up a Logitech G920 and GT Omega stand to play some racing games on my PC. I have Gamepass Ultimate so I can play Forza Horizon 4 and F1 2018, but I think I would perfer racing on tracks so I might pick up Forza 7. Any other suggestions? Not overly interested in Asseta Corsa, as I am more so looking at regular everyday cars.

Assetto corsa with mods and thank me later. You can download hunderds of regular cars, and with a wheel AC has the best FFB and physics. Plus if you buy the ultimate edition there are already alot of road cars to drive. Also with track mods, you have tons of road and track to drive, you will enjoy it. But to start FH4 is good game to warm up on the wheel.

vs

Assetto Corsa - Laguna Seca - Ford Mustang GT 2015
Mods + Custom PPF + Real Head Motion + Reshade

Outside that weird follow camera in AC, you did a good job with the lighting and color balance. A litlle bloom on the car and you are there.

Also i just read that ACC will get Bathurst, Suzuka and Laguna Seca. This is definitely the best looking version compared to Forza, GT and PC. The detail and accuracy is unmatched, and all the tracks have dynamic tod and weather. I think at this point whe can count ACC as a next gen sim. This is still work in progres soo its not even finished

Thanks, I didn't consider mods. So would you recommend I start with the original, or Competizione ?

Competizione is GT3 only and doesn't support mods, so its not for you. Just start with Assetto Corsa, its dirt cheap the ultimate edition. It features 180 cars and 19 tracks, add mods on it and you are set for a good time. The feel you get with a wheel on AC is still unmatched. The bad thing about that is every other game you gonna play after will feel not as good, wich is frustrating :messenger_grinning_sweat:.

Have a version with a bloom very similar to GTS that works great here in Laguna Seca, but then in other tracks and night time it goes too strong on other elements just because they are white, so I had to compromise and set a less stronger one.

ACC is getting good, but it's crippled by being limited to GT3 and, above all, being closed to mods.

Whenever I see AC mods getting recommended I like to remind everyone of a very important point: search around, and search hard for GOOD mods. Making custom cars using the game's physics to their full extent is not easy. A lot of people take shortcuts with their cars' physics, so even though AC has fantastic physics, some cars can still drive like shit.

I recommend browsing GTPlanet's AC mod thread: https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/threads/assetto-corsa-pc-mod-discussion.307899/ since it has a bunch of regulars who tend to recommend content they've tested and approved, and also a handful of people who take "meh" mods and fix them up to be more accurate.

Yup, Gtplanet is a very good place to find quality mods. And the most mods i downloaded where track mods, the cars that are in the game is good enough. There is alot variation in the car selection, from GT3 to normal city cars. And all of them feel unique and handle great.
