NieR: Automata |OT| "I wouldn't expect too much from this game if I were you."

After I finally finished the
Parade Escort
quest and they hinted that there might be another one, I almost shut the game off. Why do you hate me this much, Yoko Taro?

Oh man, I went to do that and little did I know the enemies were like
level 35 and it was just a massacre, had to run away :(

Inu you comment a lot for someone without the game, unless I missed something.

because i'm super excited to get my hands on it x) i spoiled myself with an entire stream and all endings already because i could not wait.

But instead of being disappointed, i'm even more excited to get my hands on it

I really wish they could have had a simultaneous release

its easy to misunderstand the ending if your not paying close attention, i expect a lot of people to get the wrong idea...but there really is only one way to interpret it

Care to give me your intepretation? Just curios to hear some opinions about it, since there aren't a lot of people here who are at that point

I saved that one for NG+ when I was overleveled for it. It's almost laughably impossible when you first get it.

Yeah I'm curious too.

I might just play the game on easy to run through the game and get
chapter select
unlocked. The challenge isn't relevant to my interest in this game. What super spoiling myself gets me is a optimized plan for completion when i have the game in my own hands.

I saw this yesterday and it just made my jaw drop and say god damn.....

If you're on twitter and see Nier stuff you might have seen this gif going around.

The original twitter post I got the gif from has like 22K like and 13K retweets

Is this some sort of glitch or mod or is it a costume?

Still on my first playthrough, I feel like I'm going a lot slower than most people here.

I just did the big ass
shmup section with the giant machine in the sea.

That was actually a lot of fun, and I'm so glad parts of the game like that made its way in. Nice change of pace.

I then went to meet
Devola and Popola, and got the scanner. Where do I go scan with this thing for 9S's signal?

a lot of people seem to think that 2B 9S are essentially at the beginning point where they lost their memories thus making it a downer ending. But its clear from the conversation between the pods that their memories of what happend were kept in safe condition by the pods and reuploaded to them thus making it a happy ending

Does anyone else think it might be better to skip sidequesting and exploring in the first playthrough? I just started the second playthrough and I'm kind of regretting being so thorough the first time through.
Especially with the new chests.

Yoko taro trolled me again! Small question!

I bought the chip that let you see treasure chest and item on the mini-map.... but it doesn't show the locked chest on it!

will i be able to buy one later or i'm stuck re-exploring the whole world to refind them all? Thanks

welp, we thought about the same thing! But i still don't regret doing side quest on my first playthrough

I am so swamped and have an avalanche still on the way, but I am going to go ahead and pre-order this. I loved the demo too much and know I want it.

Well the combat/exploration is alot better in route A, so no. But i see where you are coming from.

Yeah, ending E looked like a happy ending to me, in some form or fashion. The lack of an epilogue on what their future may hold, on the other hand, makes me feel insanely hollow.

I've seen very little discussion about it in here, but this game struggles to hit 60 more often than not, even on a PS4 Pro right? I'm probably around mid-way through the game now and it feels uneven as hell performance-wise, which was really surprising to me coming from Platinum.

Do side quests get locked out/cancelled if you don't do them and proceed in the main story? or can you always get back to them?

There wasn't an epilogue like that for the first and either

Some of us talked about it a bit earlier, but yeah, framerate seems all over the place.

Platinum's games seem to always run into performance issues unfortunately. Was hoping this would perform better, but it is what it is. At least there's a PC version for this one.

Guess we don't disagree then. Despite Yoko saying it i didn't believe this game was going have a happy ending until the very end heh. Generally it surprised me that despite the things that happen in it, it seems to have a much more positive tone all around. I wonder where that's coming from

I don't think RPGs in general tend to have the kinds of epilogues I'm looking for. The only consolation for me at this point is the three of them can probably take it easy and live a fairly war-free life for awhile.

Probablly because Nier fans wouldn't be as hung up on technical details. Zelda seems to have some framerate trouble as well but that is completly irrelevant to most zelda fans since it's zelda. They are going to make patches for this game but the PC version will be the thing you want to get everything going the way you want.

Good to know it's not just me. I was, irrationally, getting nervous something was wrong with my system.

i think an 'up to the viewer' stance is pretty much the best type of happy ending we can expect from Yoko Taro...you dont want to push him too far and remember that they are essentially on an empty planet with nothing to really do besides interact with each other, he might just have them start a war against each other and wipe each other out

really surprising to me coming from Platinum.

As a Platinum stan, I have to admit this doesn't surprise anymore. This started to become a little thing in W101 and was quite a problem in Bayonetta 2. (The activision games were cross-gen)

But damn, sorry to hear it seems even worse than Bayo 2.

Question is this a bug, i want to do the machine examination 1 but it dont let me do anything, i cant jump on the head

Running into the same issue and am completely at my wit's end. There seems to be next to no documentation on this online, as is to be expected pre-release, but it's frustrating nonetheless. Can't help but feel the quest is bugged.

Performance issues are very 'platinum' on the contrary :p Most of their games in this decade go down to 40s and even 30s when things get bad, atleast according to DF

I think
it has a lot to do with Yoko not really liking to do the same game twice, so everyone expecting him to put in a super downer ending to start probably seemed boring for him as a writer/

I'm running around the city ruins right at the start and getting a weird flickering every now and then. Anyone know what that is? Seems like the robot might be moving right up to the camera for a frame or two

Did you start playing before the game was fully installed? Have you installed update 1.03?

I played before it was fully installed but started a new save once it was done. I'm playing the digital version so I assume it's up to date because I have network features, but I can't find the version number anywhere explicitly. I downloaded yesterday.

Edit: my weapons trader mission doesn't seem bugged at the point mentioned in the OP, but I can't find the last gadget piece. :(

Make sure you installed patch 1.03! It's playing before the game was fully installed that cause this problem, and it will also glitch a quest that will not let you progress in the game!

1.03 fixed that!

before the patch you had to completly erase all save and system data from the playstation interface, and restart a new save

Ah. Well I'm on 1.03 but I may still have old system data. Not sure. I seem to be able to progress that quest but can't find the last gadget thing so who knows. Thanks for the reply.

well... If you still have this weird flickering, better erase everything and start a new game, it's a pain yes, but it fixed the problem for me at least

maybe wait for more answers from other gaf members!

You need to create a Japanese or an HK account (HK is better, less expensive), then pay the game with a pre-paid card (you can find one on play-asia, they send you the code by email), and then just download the game! You will be able to play it on your main account without any problem

For anyone else following along: I did a full restart and the flickering seem fixed for now and I've progressed beyond that point. :)

God these side quests are killing me. I can't get the
YorHa Betrayers
mission to work. I go to all the places on the map and nothing happens.

Then it seems half the side quests are for like level 35-40, but I'm only 22. Shit's getting kinda boring and tedious.

So small question for everyone who in route B or beyond!

Can we found/buy a chip that let you see locked treasure chests on the mini-map?

you need to go to the place near the factory to trigger the first event of this quest! And don't worry about your level, you can do them later if you don't manage to beat them, or even on NG+, you keep everything! I personnally fought an ennemy lvl 60 at lvl 30, it was long but i beat it!
