OUENDAN!!!
It's been two and a half years since GAF first experienced the wonder that was Ouendan through JackFrost's (and Jonnyram's) thread impressions. I am not one to shy away that the fact behind Vestral's thread itself was the sole reason why I latched onto Ouendan and I am sure that GAF itself was responsile for 80% or more of import sales towards the original title due to his thread which is still cruising at a respectable 25 pages.
It took time to brew and grow but sure enough the Ouendan fascination catched on. Search on any Ouendan-participated song on youtube and you'll guarantee yourself to catch an Ouendan fan video in its wake - whether through the players wanting to show you their skill or through the music itself is up to you to determine.
But why wait there? iNiS, known for their sole Gitaroo Man release, decided to buck trends and latch arms around Nintendo and release Elite Beat Agents for the US residents who would seemingly miss out on the greatness that was Ouendan. Many posters here can say that it is the best in the Ouendan series but I'd have to disagree since I never tasted it till much later since the 2nd game in the Ouendan series - Moero! Nekketsu Rhythm Damashii Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan 2.
Elite Beat Agents used a total of English songs which put some fans off. But eh; if you're using Y.M.C.A by the Village People then September by Earth, Wind and Fire, then finally into Canned Heat by Jamiroquai, you can't go wrong in my eyes. Still some people didn't enjoy the direction for some reason (myself included).
Then came Ouendan 2.

Still my favourite DS game of all time. Still the one game to constantly bring a smile to my face even though I got raped in Cheerleader mode on Hyde's song for the 50th time. If there's one thing that you have to respect about iNiS, it's about their knack of ability towards music and rhythm knowledge. They are the one company you seem to want to see succeed in terms of of the entire rhythm genre because of their somewhat limited experience compared to every other company out there involved in the field.
Let us hope for some more great iNiS developments, regardless of developmental platform. Handheld or console, we need to play the best there is available!
