PS4 Pro Benefits for 1080p TV Owners (general and game-specific)

This is however just a choice between performance and/or better image quality and richer visuals. They don't let you choose individual settings. All in all a really comfortable way of choosing what you prefer.

You don't think that's how it will go? They'll start to offer more customisable games with more and more settings. It's definitely something I can see happening.

Infamous first light @ 1080p in its "high performance" mode is glorious. Buttery smooth, feels like it's close to 60 fps most of the time and it looks just as stunning as it ever did on the OG PS4. God it feels lush zooming around the city with the neon travel power at 60 fps.

Did they increase either the sharpening filter or just picture quality on Hulu and amazon because I swear it looks better.

No I think far too many people would be too frustrated having too many options not knowing what they mean.

Sorry if this has been asked. Will PS Vita remote play(connectivity wise) improve with a PS4 Pro?

I had been having issues for months with my launch PS4 and launch Vita, my router is a piece of crap modem/router combo from my ISP and the PS4s WiFi chip wasn't much better. I use direct connect on the Pro now and I can get perfect signal in places it wouldn't even connect before

Sorry if asked but what is the difference between tomb raider enriched mode and 4k mode on a 1080p tv? What is the 4K option doing? Enriched is supersampling right, and both are 30fps? 4K mode is certainly sharper but loses some effects, I don't fully understand the 4K option on a 1080p tv :/

Edit - I see this has been discussed so I'll read the thread

4k mode has the same graphical settings as the regular PS4 version but it is rendered in 4k checkerboard resolution, which will be downsampled on your 1080p screen. You will have a very clean IQ but the graphics won't have improved.
1080p enriched mode comes graphically closer to what a PC can do in high or ultra settings but the resolution doesn't receive a bump. You will have nicer graphics but the IQ will the same as on a regular PS4, with aliasing visible and shimmering.

Lol, wished I saw you edit earlier.

thanks, useful to know!

Added to OP:

- Titanfall 2 & Battlefield 1 1080p info, screenshots, and video
- Tomb Raider graphical modes comparison video

Let me know if there are any other games or video/screens you guys would like me to add.

I thought there might be a chance with this one as there is one more patch/dlc to come alongside the complete edition that is out in a few weeks. According to the Sony document every game released from October onwards should have Pro features. Whether a re-release of Battlefront qualifies for that could be up for debate

Afraid no screenshots but Pro takes an already fantastic game in R&C and makes it look even more fantastic - you will not see a jaggie, trust me.

Just shots by players are ok? Then there are some in this thread

Thanks guys!!!

Would I be able to take advantage of all of these improvements for 1080p if I am using a HDMI splitter for my monitor? (So the hdmi cable isn't going directly into the monitor from the potential PS4 pro)

Glorious screens from Infamous. These were taken by PS4 Pro at 4k size but my TV is 1080p. This is from the game running in it's unlocked frame rate "performance mode" which sticks pretty darned close to 60 FPS the vast majority of the time.

Interesting, I think I need to set my PS4 to take screens at 1080p. When you view these at full res they look awful. Best to right click, open in a new tab and NOT zoom in on them for now. Will take some more later at 1920 X 1080, as well as some with the game in it's "high resolution" mode.

Anyone know if games like Assassins Creed Ezio Collection and FFXII will be Pro Enhanced?

do i need to move settings on ratchet and clank or something? pretty much all the games look the same to me aside from titanfall 2, in that game i can see a difference, everything else honestly i cant

You think those of us using Pro with 1080p tv sets should set screenshots at 1080p? Instead of 4K?

Yes definitely. Some of these games aren't native 4k so setting the screenshots to 1080p will save you the risk of other websites converting it to .jpeg because the images are too big and quite frankly the image looks like complete ass when you zoom in because the game is not native 4k. 1080p screenshots are the way to go.

Sorry if I've missed it, but does Mankind Divided get a Pro patch? I still wanna get that at some point.

It has Pro support, but it is not really successful one.

MKX looks way cleaner than I remember. Placebo?

If you are on 4K screen, maybe you are seeing benefits of PS4 Pro doing the upscale of video feed from 1080p to 4K. Before Pro, this upscale was done by the TV [and funnily enough, Sony still has the best upscalers in the TV business].

But will I also get the benefit of supersampling on the PNGs if I change them to 1080p?

So I'm assuming once you start the games up on the Pro the game automatically knows that its on a Pro?

I know games like RotTR have options to choose from.

Is there a mode to set, or is it automatic?

When I was trying out all the pro patched games I didn't notice at first. But then I booted up Bloodborne cause I bought the DLC and then I noticed the difference. I know different games and all, but I doubt Shadow of Mordor and infamous looked that clean. So between this and the improvements to psvr I'm pretty happy with my purchase.

I didn't see it in the OP but how about CoD Infinite Warfare on the Pro with a 1080p TV? Improvements there too? Thanks!

Playing Infamous SS for the first time and I feel like it's the way it was always meant to be played. Having a lot of fun with it and it looks phenomenal.

I played Rise of the Tomb Raider last night, and all the modes look pretty good to me. I like the implementation they did, it is honestly difficult for me to choose which mode to play on. Right now I'm leaning towards 4k mode but I'll probably end up switching modes for a while to get a better feel for it in different situations.

We'll see how future titles handle it, but hopefully devs let us choose modes like this.

Would you mind providing some details on the differences you see between 4K and Enriched mode? I'm leaning toward Enriched due to some of the added effects, but am curious if they are noticable.

Also curious if even the image quality of Enriched mode is a bit better than the image quality of OG PS4 version?

I thought it played really bad, it felt incredibly unresponsive and sluggish no matter what sensitivity settings I chose it felt wrong, and the FOV is just far too low for me.

I'm surprised to hear that. Even most people with a regular PS4 seem to think it runs decently? I'd be curious to see more 1080p Pro owners' thoughts.

To me, pro on 1080 I wasn't impressed really. I liked the first game but something about this seems off so trading it in for a profit due to it being in a bundle. Will maybe pick it up when cheap.

You're referring to playing Dishonored 2 on a Pro with 1080p TV? Dang, that's too bad. I plan to start that game next weekend and was stoked.
