There is a lot of demand for William to become King and it would do wonders for the perception of the Royal Family.

I think it's extremely unlikely that anyone is going to abdicate given they believe that they were appointed by God.

But I guess we'll see...

Only real option left is that she finally finished Persona 5 and has an immediate decree to make Makoto the next in line for the throne.

Maybe the Tories have really fucked up badly (election expenses) and some kind of mass arrest of MPs is imminent. So some kind of thing has been invoked to delay the general election.

That'd be fucking awesome. But wouldn't involve royal staff so unlikely.

They probably just have articles ready for different scenarios so they can have them out as soon as possible if they happen to be true.

Probably just a mistake, it's one of their prepared obituaries for a major death. Philip has 'died' a few times now.
