Honestly, even if Cera is not like the comic book character (haven't read it, so I don't know for sure), I like him enough to give his interpretation of the character a chance.
Agreed. Edgar Wright could turn a cat into Al Pacino Oscar work. Fuck if I care if it's like the character in the comic, it's gonna fit the movie. Ya'll mutha fuckas need to calm the fuck down until you see the film. And if you already have a Cera bias, state it so the rest o us know who to ignore.

The only problem I have with Michael Cera is that his hair is not Scott Pilgrim

Other than that I will wait for film

CANNOT WAIT FOR FILM OH GOD

As I said before here is why I'm giving it a chance; there are some sequences where you see Cera actually angry/focused rather than his usual comedically annoyed self.

However this is why I'm still waiting until I see the film to really say it's 100%. I see Pilgrim as slacker, a geek and an all around loser. He's not an asshole per se...he's more ignorant than anything else. The most important aspect I find about him is that he's a geek through and through. He's you and me not in a content aspect or what he knows about geek culture, but by personality and social inadequacies. Cera has been playing the wimpy spineless pusharound all the time whereas in contrast to Pilgrim; he's just a guy who doesn't care or have motivation. Pilgrim feels like a guy who tried and failed whereas Cera plays characters who have never tried and is trying for the first time. That's just my opinion on the differences between Cera's usual typecast and what Pilgrim is.

So like I said, I hope, really hope that this film will be Cera's coming out party to actually show some range (which by the looks of it, looks promising). It's not my most anticipated movie of the year but I think this film deserves a chance more than any other geek adapted franchise in the past couple of years.

I agree that Cera doesn't fit Scott Pilgrim, but the weird thing is that I can't actually think of anyone else who could play him. I don't think that the guy from Zombieland would be a good fit either. Who do you guys honestly think could play Pilgrim?

Grabbed on page five. Sorry :D

I have a friend who's been going on about the trailer for this all week. And i've been going on about how i've never bloody heard of it.

But damn this does look like a pretty good movie.

Thing is, this kid's "interpretation" of any character is an emotionless awkward teenager.

I don't see how you can cum powerfully over this, yet be the biggest Speed Racer hater on this forum :lol

Because Speed Racer is horrendous in every conceivable way, but Scott Pilgrim is a brilliantly written comic, unashamedly geeky, with amazing characters which is being perfectly recreated for film (consensus out on Michael Cera aside)?

They're not even remotely comparable. Speed Racer is all atrocious writing and characterization and sub-saturday morning cartoon, coupled to bad acid trip visuals. I could not stand to sit and watch that shit for more than an hour before wanting to vomit.

It's amusing that all this time people are still trying to validate that abysmal movie by relating it to works that actually have a chance at being good, but give up the ghost. That movie is fucking terrible.

Totally respect your love for it, but you're not going to convince anyone that is even remotely intelligent that Scott Pilgrim and Speed Racer are comparable.

Did someone slip you bad shrooms and Transformers 2 by mistake? Because what you describe has no relation to the live action movie Speed Racer.

And brilliant? Really? Watchmen is brilliant. Scott Pilgrim is clever in the way it nails a certain vibe that hits for a certain sect of readers, but it's more of a security blanket than a work of art. The correspondence with Speed Racer is they both accomplish exactly what they set out to do. It's okay to like one and not the other, but trashing one just makes you seem narrow minded.

Great trailer full of lots of great images and lots of 'pop out' moments.

A really fresh looking studio film. Definitely something I'm looking forward to.

I'd love to see this cross over to the mainstream audience but I seriously doubt it.

This trailer, as good as it is, is squarely aimed at those that get it.

This has underperforming, little known gem written all over it.

*sigh*

At least they'll get (most of) GAFs money.

wahhhhhhhhh how have i missed this ALL DAY?!

i agree Cera looks a BIT out of place, but i think thats just the scenes hes in. i have faith in him in the rest of the film

I'm thinking that while Cera might not be the best fit for Scott, I think it will be a pretty good role for him outright. Really looking forward to this film!

Damn, dude. You're trying way too hard.

Can your computer run it? My laptop can never seem to run 1020p straight, only 720p. 720p is practically fullscreen for me though, so w/e.

an update for anyone else that had issues

My download from a website someone provided was choppy, but the 1080p download from the Apple website was smooth as hell. Can't wait to upload it to the PS3!

why are people comparing this to speed racer? that movie was pretty bad.

scott pilgrim, however, is fuck all awesome as shit and pew pew pewin you in the face with hyper-relatable action packed rockin ultimate hilariousness.

i saw this movie last night. it was incredible in every way. if you continue to troll a movie you haven't seen, just go back to the gaming side and complain about some upcoming shit over there. all we need here is unmitigated HYPE.

also, need OST ASAP.

Give me details of the Scott Pilgrim side scrolling beat 'em up coming to XBLA/PSN!

Or did I just dream about that? :(

they made me sign an NDA but i don't think they're going to care when i roll over the internet in my self-propelled hype machine.

first boss is still pretty whack. as a brown dude, i think matthew patel was always a real missed opportunity to make fun of brown dudes. everything else is like a cat's birthday, PUURRFFECT.

at one point in the movie it dawned on me how rock-awesome all the music has been throughout. all original music just like the comics only now you don't have to play them yourselves! you can immediately see why everyone loves the clash at demonhead in the SP universe :lol

i REALLY hope they release the OST before the movie : |

Seems lame.

really wish we had "search user's posts" function back so i can put posts like this into perspective (ie, trolls vs people with bad taste)

I liked the trailer quite a bit. and Cera really didn't seem that bad at all. heck, i didn't notice a single stammer from him. he could be fine.

if Michael Cera wasn't famous, no one would be looking at that trailer bemoaning the clips of Scott's performance they saw

I guess I'm just sick of Michael Cera at this point. I wish he'd take some time off. I loved him in Arrested Development, but seeing him play the role of Michael Cera in every movie has burned me out on him.

If he does something different in this movie, I'd be happy.

As for the trailer. I guess it seems like they're throwing everything but the kitchen sink into the movie that they think "geeks" might like. It seems like pandering.

Speed Racer sucks. If I were seven years old it would be the best thing ever.

Yeah, no. People are basing their opinions on the footage they have available to them (and who's trolling? I see anticipation + concern over the lead actor, mainly). We shouldn't just set that aside because you say so.

Is the comic awesome?
Yeah. Really really awesome.

I sort of agree with what you say about the movie seeming like it's pandering, but the comic pulls all this stuff off smoothly, especially as the series progresses.

I love Speed Racer though.

Well, that changes things a bit.

I guess I'll ask around my circle of friends and see if I can borrow some issues.

haha, I think I'll see this just because it looks like No More Heroes: The Wonder Years :lol

I've watched this trailer a ton...love the vibe of it all.

Definitely going to see this Day 1.

yea i guess you're right. i just wish i could assuage people's concerns more because i had the same ones (over-cera).

he nails it, though. confident, skinny (!!!), even bad ass at times. he's not george michael. he's scott pilgrim.

Watched the trailer a few times. Even showed it to a friend who never read any of the graphic novels. Looks good. Not getting the Scott Pilgrim vibe from Cera at all...his own interpretation, etc. --sure I'll go with that I guess. Completely nailed everything else though!

I'm not sure if this is the right place for this, but here goes.

I love Edgar Wright. I've loved everything he's done. This trailer did nothing for me, and the preview for volume 1 of Scott Pilgrim again, did nothing for me.

Why is Scott Pilgrim cool? Lots of people in this thread / on this forum are raving about this trailer / the series but nobody is really getting at the meat (or if they are, they've done so in a place I haven't looked!). What makes this worthy of my (or, really, anyone's) attention? I want to like this, because, in Wright I trust. But I'm just not getting the spark.

I liked the trailer, I am hoping Michael Cera doesn't Michael Cera it up, and I can't believe people are defending Speed Racer. Damn that movie was trash.

IIRC they never confirmed it as a downloadable (or what platforms). Just that a game was coming. I mean I'd love to have $60 worth of bad-ass old school beat-em-up but I doubt that's what it will be.

To be clear, the problem isn't so much with how Cera seemed in the trailer, it was more that every single other person seems spot on that for people who read the comic that it was like Michael Cera transported into the world rather than the entire thing adapted for a movie. It's the one loose end that stops it from seeming like it is exactly the comic as a live action movie.

That said, there seemed to be some scenes when Cera wasn't just acting like he does in his other movies. Specifically, when he says "what" sarcastically. I'm serious.

The first book is kinda lame, the next ones are much better. It's really about funny, awesome characters with great personalities. That's easily the best part of the comic. The action stuff I never cared for. And the trailer shows nothing of this. And Michael Cera fucking sucks dong. So it's an issue there, with the trailer.

Like I said before, I would much rather have an animated movie...

I thought visually the movie was nice. It had great action/race sequences, but the storytelling was something horrible.

I'm almost certain they were talking about it being PSN/XBLA somewhere, just can't find a credible source. I'll keep looking.

Having never heard of this before, and after seeing the trailer, I am pumped. Cera is almost always awesome. Effects look crazy.

That's not crazy, the bit where he says "What" actually really stood out for me too.

Has anyone watched any of the behind-the-scenes clips they posted while they filmed the movie? Cera was in-character as Scott in several of them and he was perfect. I remember one where he's not even the focus of it, he's trying to read in the background, and he's being a huge sarcastic dick about not being able to focus while they're filming near him.

I have NO worries about him as Scott. Especially after reading Jon's review, and hearing Kevin Smith say he's more Bugs Bunny than any of his other characters before.
