Is anyone getting that whole Archer/Arrested Development "ahem, context" vibe from all of this?

It's pretty crazy. I'm going to have to start watching what comes out of my mouth.

The problem is that this was scripted. Yes, people actually make rape jokes with their friends all the time. Yes, this is tame in comparison. However, this was an event viewed by millions. Whether you feel it was a rape joke is Irrelevant. Many took it as such and it was shitty trash talk. There are a million other non-controversial things they could have said.

Finally watched this and I almost can't believe that anyone interpreted it as a rape joke. I love rape, I'm all about distasteful humor, but it was nonexistent here. He's clearly referring to the beatdown she's receiving, which is the subject of the entire scripted demo. Even if you were to totally remove all context (which it seems most people are) it'd be an uphill battle to claim it was a rape inference, rather than generic smack talk.

Gotta say, this one has me scratching my head. Even if I'm not the most empathetic of chaps, I usually 'see the other side'. Not so in this case, that was just generic smack-talk.

I'll have to mull over the implications - my knee jerk reaction was how stupid it is to be outraged by this but I give it some deeper thought.

Regardless of it being a rape joke or not, at the very least most agree it was a poor choice of words and the setting (some dude giving woman a beating on stage) was a bit dodgy to begin with. And your choice when confronting someone who feels uncomfortable about it is to be condescending and dismissing? Gee, you're a true hero.

and your example doesn't even make sense, if you think it's something that could happen in a massage setting you watch way too much porn

You know you can give a massage with cloths still on and sitting on a couch nothing porn like about it. Have given some massages on friday and saterday nights when most of my friends finished their shift and complain about back issues and how hard life is. After some drinks i just offer it for the fun to some of my female friends and said some awkward and stupid shit while doing it.

This is really reaching. Was it awkward banter - sure but that was not a line to white knight over. I'm married with a high school age daughter - I am protective and can be overly sensitive to these kind of issues as a result. That said, IMO, this is a non-event.

The entire script was like a bad porno movie though...how no one saw that in rehearsal or why they thought it'd be funny is beyond me.

I hate watching their conferences though, because Microsoft always has that poor acting on stage...really really poor acting.
