Overview.jpg

Hey all, I now officially welcome you to the first Tekken 6 GAF tournament.

Since the number of people that signed up for the tournament was under the minimum for GAF's tournament specialist Kadey, she decided to pass on this. Feeling like this is a real missed opportunity I just decided to organize it in my own little bootleg version of a tournament. The rules will be a little sketchy and half-assed, but hey, it's all for the sake of fun.

I also apologize for the amateur official thread design... it's my first time attempting one of these and everything here was done in MS Paint. :D You guys should really kneel before Kadey, doing threads like these is no joke.

Round1.jpg

I've taken a lot of liberties with this one, so I hope everyone agrees. Due to the existence of lag, for the first round I’ve divided the contestants for the tournament into 4 pools: West Coast, East Coast, Pacific, and Europe. The format is the exact same as the world cup. Every player plays against every other contestant in their pool. Once a match has been finished please post the results in this thread and I’ll update this first post. At the end, due to the numbers in each pool, the Top 3 for West & East Coast and 1st in Pacific & Europe pools will advance to round 2. The rules for Each of the rounds are written down a little further this post. See below for the pool placement:

  • Pool Europa

(x) Because no one in the European pool managed to play their games, and I couldn't get any matches with any of them... the only fair means of continuing on with the tournament and filling the vacancy of a European pool champion is to replace it with the next highest ranked member in the pools. That individual was Finakia and he was the only person with 2 sets of victorious matches out of all the pool players that did not qualify.

This is where the highlighted contestants from the table above will compete in an 8 man tournament to obtain the true King of Iron Fist on GAF! Once again check below for the specific rules that'll come into play here.

zikrqs.jpg

AAK (Armor King) beats -DarKaoZ- (Lili) 3-2 (3:1,2:3,3:2,0:3,3:2)

Lyte Edge (Alisa) beats CcrooK's Wife (Lili) 3-0 (3:2,3:2,3:2)

=========================================================================== =====

Rules.jpg

  • Round 1
    • Best of 3 Sets (First to 2 wins)
    • Each Set consists of Max 5 rounds (First to 3 wins)
    • 60 sec round limit
    • Winner of the set must stick with his/her character, only the loser get's to switch his/her character
    • The rules for pool play will be first to win 2 sets of the standard 5 round matches. Since the pools will be organized based on region, these matches should have the least lag so I think 2 sets is alright considering how many matches have to be played at the pool levels. Now let's look @ a scenario of a pool:

      Player 1 vs Player 2, Player 1 beats Player 2 2-1 (3:1,2:3,3:0)
      Player 3 vs Player 4, Player 3 loses to Player 4 0-2 (1:3,0:3)

Therefore the current tally will look like this:

      wgs57t.png

*This is the number of rounds won subtracted by the number of rounds lost, and only accounts for the first 2 sets
    • Net Rounds won category is in place just to differentiate in case any ties take place at the end of the round
    • All Pool matches must be completed by September 19th (can change depending on circumstances)
    • If some matches are left incomplete, the current standing will simply be used to determine a finalist
    • In case of a disconnect, repeat that specific set from the beginning
    • In the extremely rare scenario of a Double KO in the 5th round of the 3rd set, that set will simply be repeated
    • All contestants should pos the results of their matches in the following format:

      Player 1 defeated Player 2 2-1 {(3:1,2:3,3:0} |Set ratio {round ratio per set}|

  • Round 2
    • Quarter finals and Semifinals will be best of 5 sets
    • Grand finals will be best of 7 sets
    • Remaining rules are retained from Round 1
    • For now this is single elimination, but if popular demand requests it, there can be a loser's bracket

Ohh I must've missed the sign-ups. Though admittingly I haven't played in quite a while, so I'd probably get my ass kicked anyway. :p
If you need one more for the european pool, let me know. Otherwise, good luck to the rest.

Anyone in my pool (West Coast) add me on PSN. I can play today (Monday) until about 6pm or so, and all day tomorrow and Wed (unless plans are created between now and then). Next time I'm on PSN I'll add everyone, but I'll be keeping an eye on this thread. I want to get the matches done sooner rather than later. ^_^

Good luck!

I guess we should have had a separate sign up thread... bad management on my part I guess... it was all in the official thread :(

And Rolento has too many friends :p, I suppose I gotta organize my matches with him through GAF... what time are you usually online?

Just a message to everyone in the West coast pools: CcrooK is gonna miss the tournament and his wife is gonna replace him.

Her PSN is Reminiscence, it's all in the OP

Happy battles ;)

Oh you guys are in for a hurting. :lol I just need to remind myself about providing aspirin when I get the ear full of "this guy played so cheap!" kind of talk over the phone. I'm looking at you MM and your Eddie! I'll get her names to add. She plays almost every night so it's an easy pick up and play for whoever is on. And fix your avatar AAK!

My avatar?... :lol measly resolutions, mods took my avatar rights away almost 2 years ago. Meh, I got used to it!

woops, I forgot to post the character rules, thanks again!

Ah no problem. I thought that maybe you decided they're not needed. No problem anyway, I think I will use only one character anyway. I tend to forget everything in a flash. :lol

Great job at organizing this AAK.

Is it best of 3 rounds per match or best of 5? There's conflicting information up there.

Best of 3 matches, i.e. first to 2 matches

Each match is best of 5 rounds i.e. each match is first to 3 rounds

Invites are going out from Reminiscence now.

If any of you want to do some pre-test games for the fun of it, feel free. Just be sure to communicate. Also, does having mics on effect lag? We usually just keep mics off when we host games.

Oh yeah, most definitely.

For any of those on the east coast, just let me know when you are ready to play with a PM. I'm available during the evening.

P.S. If you use Lili, Kaz, or Roger Jr. you automatically win by default against me. :lol

One thing that definitely helps with lag is to use a wired connection. Don't use the PS3's wifi, I recently switched and I get nearly half of the lag I used to.

Good matches AAK, I can tell you're ahead of where I'm at. I've basically got 1.5 characters down.

I learned a bunch of things though - like that the windmill punch is blockable halfway through, nobody ever does that. I couldn't stop doing it even after if got snuffed a bunch of times, it was such an integral part of my game (the bound you get off it leads to as much damage as any of his non-wall carry juggles and is way easier to land online).

Also, thx for pointing out uf+2. I was always doing that move by accident, but couldn't remember the command.

No worries man, it was fun. You just gotta stop throwing out moves unless you're POSITIVE your opponent won't punish it. I'm no Feng player so I can't give you too much more advice, but I liked the use of your d/f+1,2 strings. But hey, you got 2 rounds on me on both sets, so good going :).

AAK beats LiveFromKyoto 2-0(3:2,3:2)

Any other updates for the night?

Yeah, maybe it's an online thing where it's hard to react, but I tend to try and throw out moves in anticipation to keep the momentum on my side. Easier than read & react online, but obviously it has its downside.

AAK

That is true, downside to online indeed. But that is also my biggest problem along with a lot of failed executions (I missed all of my giant swing air throws against you). In the end patience prevails.

Okay, I'll be able to start my matches on wednesday, thursday and friday for west coast folks. I'll send out some invs once I get on.

Go easy Markman. :lol

I'm kidding. I would hate to know that you won without even making an effort. Rape away, I will receive it willingly.

So I'm guessing LiveFromKyoto used Feng and AAK used King?

More post fight details!

Shame there's no upload replays to youtube option.

Ok, going to have to do most of the matches on the weekend, because I'm a bit busy this week. Maybe I have some time on Thursday, but I will post here if I'm available.

Good luck to everybody!

Yo AAK, we could have played today. I don't have to much time to practice, so either I'm going to be on my game or off :D

I was Feng and he was Armor King. Not sure what other details to post other than what's been said. It felt like it was over fast though.

I'm up for some matches later tonight, but I want to check out the Vanquish demo first.

Oh, really man? My bad. Don't worry I'm usually gonna be online at night for the rest of the week. We'll settle this soon!

Any West CoastAsia/Europe matches happen yet?

Sent a friend request to everyone except MarkMan (his list is full), and accepted CcrooK's wife's request. I'll try to get some games in before the weekend is over.

Lyte Edge

All I got for the Vernal Equinox was this stupid tag
I got owned against AAK as I thought, but after we did a bunch of matches and I really had a blast! It's been a long time since I played Tekken. I think I'm done with Alyssa...Asuka it is!

That was good stuff LE, I kinda adapted to Alisa a lot over the course of T6. I actually switched from Christie/Raven to maining Armor King to counter all the Alisa's I saw online ;).

But GG w/ all the fights we had. I like your mentality, you figure out patterns that work, and adapt appropriately when things don't. Good fighting game fundamentals :).

AAK vs Lyte Edge

AAK (Armor King) beats Lyte Edge (Alisa, Anna) 2-0 (3:0,3:1)

I just looked at the final 8 bracket and noticed that if the 2nd placers win, 1st East/West would place 2nd East/West in the second round of the bracket. Wouldn't it make more sense to swap the 1st West/3rd East and 1st East/3rd West positions to avoid that? Or is it better for West to play Europe and East to play Pacific (in the event the 2nd placers lose)?

@GrayFoxPL, thanks for adding me. I'm ready, or as ready as I'll ever be (actually had a YLOD just last week so on a new Slim now), but I do notice you're generally offline about 4 hours before I start checking (which is usually after 7-8 GMT, when my kid's asleep).

On Friday I have a window of a few hours around 11-13 GMT, and in the weekend I can usually manage most of the time, though this weekend I'll be gone a lot of Sunday (family visits).

Great matches today AAK :D. It came down to the wire on our last tourney match (sadly I screwed up). My King got whooped by his A.King three rounds to my one, but I came back on the rematch with the sweep :D. Sadly, my King was no match for your Yoshi in the last set. Great battles afterward as well. Your Julia was whooping my tail (man, did I even beat her :lol).

AAK

Awesome games AdroitOne. That was intense. Don't worry, you beat me during the first Julia match :lol.

Your Raven, King, and Bruce are forces to be reckoned with! I think you beat me more than I did in the casuals! GG regardless

AAK vs AdroitOne

AAK (Armor King, Yoshimitsu) beats AdroitOne (King) 2-1 (3:1,0:3,3:1)

But hey, you get +1 in the Net rounds won category!
