Yep confirmed, my save file is gone.... :(

I think I'll return it. Gives me a reason to stop playing anyway. I just couldn't get over the hurdle of the handling.

Don't delete your save game! It's possible the error message is an error.

I got to play the casino a while yesterday. I was reading that it was going to be a stand-alone XBLA release originally, but they decided to put in TDU2 instead. It probably would have done really well as a XBLA release. The only casino game on the 360, IIRC. My girl loves the slot machines so she was having a good time, while I went over to roullette after she was done. Alot of fun.

While I was playing roullette, a message popped up saying someone won 29k in the slot machines. My girl was pissed, lol. If they ever got it working so it doesn't look like a ghost town and actually have people walking around, it would be really cool.

I'm assume it's best to wait until the game's patched before picking it up?

I was just gonna throw caution to the wind and give it a try. Perhaps there will be a price drop sometime soon

Oh...

Ruh roh I'm now having regrets, is there an error where it doesn't see your save. Because the game wouldn't just start new game it overwrite something though it didn't give me the option load.

The message about the corrupted save games COULD be an error according to Eden games. However if you chose to delete or overwrite, there's nothing you can do to get your save game back.

My TDU2 experience so far (Xbox 360 owner and fan of TDU1):

* Install the game, boot it up and hope to quickly get to the discovery part of the game, which to me is where TDU shines. Have to sit through a bunch of really trollishly bad cut-scenes and dialogue. Have to drive around a bit, buy a car (mustang), get a cheap house, and finish the first championship of six events. Six events before I can just free roam? OK, I guess. I just want to cruise around, but I'll see whats on offer.

* The mustang handles like shit, seemingly incapable of taking city street turns at even low speeds without spinning out. Switching between hardcore and assists doesn't make much of any difference. Every time I tackle a time trial or race I do OK until I have to make a 90 degree turn - then I always spin out. This is hard to compensate for because your view re-centers after every turn, so you tend to overcompensate and crash.

* Frustrated with having to finish the championship, I retry each event several times until I luck out and make it through in first place. Now new objectives pop up: Win the offroad championship, get a haircut, buy some clothes, get plastic surgery, pick this NPC up. My phone won't shut the hell up and my GPS is always assigned to these objectives.

* I use my cash to buy an off-road car, going for the Hummer. Thing handles like a tank but seems less prone to spin out. After a day or two I attempt the off-road championship. This is when I notice the 1.5 - 2 second delay on my car when starting a race, which just lets me watch the first three cars get ahead of me. Now in most of the races, with some casual practice I can eventually catch up and overtake these guys, but the Time Trials are exercises in pure frustration. They're difficult enough, but with a 2 second penalty right from the get-go they become maddening. But I persevere a bit, and manage to come in second place in a few events and first place in others. Now I'm tied with my rival with one event left - which turns out to be a time trial from hell itself. A maddening array of off-road switchbacks and elevation changes. I give it a solid 6 or 7 goes, but always come up a minimum of 3.5 seconds behind the 1st place time. Frustrated and demoralized I quit out of the championship.

* I have 70K in cash, 3 cars (mustang, hummer, and the rival mustang from the first championship.) From the official forums I see players shitting on both the mustang and hummer for these events so I want to get a "real" car - a competitive one. But I can't, because I'm all out of garage space. So I need to buy a house first, which will cost me another 80K. So, I seek out the world events...

* I do about a dozen "drive me carefully to X" missions, good for only 2K each. Do a few of the "drop me off at my meeting - go faster!" missions, which net me 3K. I attempt to do a "follow my girlfriend" mission, but once we hit the straightaways the girlfriend's car leaves my Hummer in the dust. I retry a few times before I realize I don't have the power to keep a close enough tail on her and quit out.

* Add to all of this the two evenings spent almost exclusively mussing with my controller settings to try to come to grips with the new handling model, and the loud static and white noise coming through my speakers from random player mics, and I'm now so out of love with this game I doubt I'll ever boot it up - unless there is some gigantic miracle patch that not only fixes the problems but somehow injects the "fun" back into the game.

Now, just as background - I am not new to racing games, and I regularly play Burnout Paradise, NFS: Hot Pursuit, Test Drive Unlimited 1, Gran Turismo 5, Forza 3 and NFS: Shift. Hell I'm even pretty decent at racing in GTA4 and Just Cause 2 for chrissakes. This is the ONLY racing game in my collection with such an annoying and unpredictable handling model, and the only one where I actively dread having to tackle turns at speed.

What the hell happened with this game? At the very least its not made for me, and this is surprising since I fell in love with everything TDU1 had to offer.

Really not sure what to think of TDU2 so far. It doesn't have the charm that the first game has that's for sure. The cars handling is my biggest gripe so far. They either handle like they're glued to the road like the Nissan GTR or spin off the road at the smallest steering input like the Golf GTI. The first games cars were twitchy, but you could at least usually see a spin coming.

I guess it depends on your tolerance for bugs, although bad game design is rarely patched out.

That said I'm glad I picked it up, despite the troubles I'm enjoying it.

Driving roads and doing those challenges with the bomb icons.

Also, finding wrecks.

Oh man, I fucking love off road racing in this. And the rain, give me more rain! I mean, who stands a chance again this? :lol

It'd be better if Eden either didn't include those cars, or made them handle better. But since they offered them on the cheap, and I ended up buying them, I had a dramatically screwed up perspective on the handling in the game. Its not the handling model that's borked, its specific cars that suck.

Since I now have some decent cars I've got almost no complaints on the handling. I set most of my controller settings all the way to the right (lowest sensitivity) and now the only thing that really bugs me is the janky shifting of your viewpoint to the center after turning. If I could turn that "feature" off I'd be perfectly happy with the driving.

@Dice: nice pics :)

Edit: Also, does anybody know if/where I can tune my Land Rover?

Just started playing this afternoon and the framerate was all over the place. Could it have been my online connection or does the frame rate chug every once and a while?

Just got 100% roads on Ibiza 1. For Oahu I would up my Pagani to get even so much as a compass that pointed me in the direction of undiscovered roads for that last 1% of each area.

Anyway, sometimes you gotta pimp hos in the woods, you know?

I tuned the handling according to a pic in this thread, it really makes a difference. That being said, does it matter which handling preset I use, sport/hardcore?

Well finally got my preorder bugatti ss copy from Walmart. I started with the lancia, and found the handling to be fine. I tried the mustang and find it just fine too. The thing is that it's very throttle sensitive and has that mustank live rear axle. For the guys who have tons of mustang trouble - try letting off the gas during corners!!!

I actually enjoyed the mustangs super tall 3 gears.

So yeah, I was kinda worried - but forgot this was gaf. Game is way better than the first save the weird cockpit auto scrolling. They need to patch in the option to turn this off. That, and adding camera position changes back. Otherwise , great show Eden!

Douchebag. Yes, me.
There is motion blur in this game? I've been playing on PC, and I've never seen any. This is on a 5770, is it a NVidia-only thing? I never even saw an option for it in the option menu.

Also, PC servers are off line. Can I play with my online profile when the servers are off line, and then still use it when they come back up? Or will using my online profile turn it off line permenantly, causing me to restart?

While the framerate chugs occasionally I've definately noticed a slight decrease while being online, especially when there are 7 other players nearby, but usually only for a second or two.

On another matter, restarted my savegame to get rid of the glowing wheels bugged Lancia I posted about earlier. Back to doing C4/B4 races again, and the beginner Lancia and Range Rover are absolutely brilliant. Much more so this second time around, perhaps because I'm used to the handling model. Just amazing fun. It doesn't feel too bad having restarted after all.

Holy shit the game seems to be bugged as hell. I held it in my hand last Saturday and thought about buying it, but the price tag put me off.

Over at the official forums there is a case of a game-breaking bug that spawns a ghost car with purple/violet tires that will haunt you for the rest of your career on the island.

You could not make this stuff up.

That's the bugged Lancia I was talking about.

1000bhp, only has 1 gear and no weight and goes up on it's side on 2-wheels in almost every corner. It's an excellent car for evading the police, they seem to be programmed not to take you down. Makes getting the Outlaw rewards extremely easy :p.

If only it wasnt for the fact that it disables the ability to do championship races....

This actually kind of makes me want to buy and play the game before they have a chance to patch it.

But I still think I will wait until the price drops. By the look of things, it should happen later this afternoon.

Played the C3 competitions. I saved the Eliminator for last because it sucks but also to fully shame that idiot by winning 15 seconds ahead of her using the exact same car.

Yet another WTF moment in this game:

PS3 G25 handling is atrocious. I thought official forums are overreacting, but now I know they are not.

First TDU on x360 was a great driving experience, as I said, even with crappy MS wheel I really enjoyed it. My 2nd favorite arcade racer this-all-gen, even almost ahead PGR3. But this.. I mean, I am beyond words.

Really, I can't say which part is worst: insane handling, different logic of wheel setup for every car (you have to literally re-adjust wheel settings for every car) or damn cockpit camera that is akwardly self-positioning itself when driving with the wheel, folowing the road and giving me nausea.

Together with the fact that in every O-turn some kind of magic traction-control bumps-in, managing the turn for me and sends me to oblivion of light-pole on every exit.

My God Eden, what have you done?

Agree. TDU1 had nice handling. I loved my Firebird - I could feel it´s weight and power. But this? Everything is just slipperywhoo and you are out of control if you even touch the steering wheel or sticks.

I assume all these screenshots are from the PC version? Or is there a feature in the game on consoles for own screenshots like Forza/GT ?

Did you try tweaking the handling? I'll quote myself from before

Okay, I've finally tried TDU2 PC with my Logitech Driving Force GT wheel. I found that the Deadzone was massive even with the Deadzone setting all the way to the left. I did a search on the net and I found out that you need to turn Steering Sensitivity down to 0 as well to eliminate the deadzone.

So turn down both Deadzone and Steering Sensitivity if you're on a wheel. I also have Steering Dampening (if I understand correctly, Steering Dampening is an active steering assist) turned all the way to the left and I'm playing on Hardcore. I put vibration and force feedback to full as well.

So far the game feels pretty good with these settings. I'm starting to enjoy this as much as TDU1. Only thing I hate now is the stupid cutscenes.

Yes, lost 3 full hours yesterday only in wheel setups :)

None of them work because overall handling physics is nothing short of mad. It changes from car to car drastically and have no consistency. Almost like every car have it's own physics engine.

I am perfectly aware this game was made 99% towards controllers because with controller I have no problems whatsoever. But, since first TDU was so godly playable with crappy MS FF wheel, I expected even better experience with sequel. Didn't happen.

Even on hard-core there is some crazy traction assist that jumps-in whenever car slides on pavement - especially in roundabouts - and then releases itself.

Not to mention that ability to counter-steer is related to above mentioned "individual physics-engine" (not actual abilities) of particular car. Some cars allows it, other cars just go into spin and loss of grip. Not even to mention that you simply can't execute subtile maneuvers due to overall twitchyness of the steering.

Also, that absurd self-adjusting of POW when you drive from cockpit with the wheel does not help. Camera is evidently trying to replicate something like eyesight-movement (head-tracking wannabe), but execution of it creates great distraction and makes nausea IMO.

It would be an understatement to say there are some issues in this game. My "pet" one is I'm blazing along building my "FRIM" (a great mechanic) and I'm precisely lining up a close pass to allow me to bank that thousand and the game STOPS and a POPUP displays to let me know that I've leveled discovery.

I like this game a lot but like Fallout NV it wears on you and ironically like Fallout NV TDU2 stutters. Eden Studios: You can't make a driving / racing game and have your engine noticeably pause to load (hitch) or severely stutter. Midnight Club LA didn't do it, Burnout Paradise doesn't do it. TDU2 can take a "backseat".

It's actually not. Want to go home and play more but then again I'm a sucker for open world games. I thought my Fallout NV analogy was really good :) though at some point in F:NV I couldn't take it anymore and just finished the main quest.

yeah, I haven't played a game that makes me take a break from work to go play in the AM in a LONG time.

I just teleported over to the RUF dealer, and got to test drive a cpl of rufs. It was really nice to see my daily driver represented (sorta) - there - the RTurbo, since Porsche refuses to let the 997 and 996 turbo co-exist in a game.

yeah, theres a bunch of niggling issues, but if what you want to do is TEST DRIVE and free roam, this is IT!

Am I right in thinking that you can not take your Offline Profile online once the servers are running again (PC servers are offline at the moment)? If so then I doubt I'll ever play online due to the fact that I'll probably have finished the game before the problems are sorted and I don't see myself playing through it again.
This also means I'll never drive the Gumpert Apollo as it's only available when you have an online Club and reach a certain level. Bloody hell.

Offline / Online it's the same profile. You can start offline and the servers can come online while you're in game and it's fine. Servers were up last time I played (last night).

Has anyone actually used the Casino in the PC SKU? I bought it about 4 days ago from the TDU2 site, and every time I try to go in it has some weird error message like "There is no current option for this" or something.

Is it not registering that I bought the DLC, or is the DLC just not working for anyone?

Also, can someone post the jpg of the "best" controller settings that people keep mentioning? This is for the 360 controller, not a wheel.
