Yeah it sucks. I went for the Range Rover.

My absolute biggest problem with this game is the property. I want to spend my money on cars, not identikit housing. :(

Speaking of sound - it´s way worse than in the first game. Some cars sound just awful and you can hear the dyno pretty clearly in the camera views not from 3rd person.

This game is going back onto the shelf until a patch or two comes out. There are too many issues, large and small, that are holding this game back right now.

Maybe I should get them a nicer garage.

Eh, only when going full speed, and then it sounds like someone doing that into a fan.

Ugh really trying my best to enjoy the game but like the last one I can't get round the handling. Hate to say it but its soo bad for me. I want to love the game I really do :( I'm just really bad at it, going in straight lines fast or taking any corner is a frustrating experience for me...

don't try taking corners at full speed. brake a little. :))

good progress on covering all the roads on hawaii here. maybe halfway done with the asphalt roads. love how many new racing circuits there are now.

Spent most of the day playing and having a lot of fun mostly just discovering new stuff and dressing up my character as skanky as I possibly can.

Anyway, I need a A6 car, any suggestions? I'm guessing I should get the Subaru.

Dice

Pokémon Parentage Conspiracy Theorist
Yes, the Subaru. It is not only fast but it controls great and still goes pretty fast if you end up driving in the grass a bit, which can be useful for some small shortcuts.

Time to buy a new house... but which one? Decisions, decisions...

Thanks for your advice earlier in the thread by the way! I got through the time trial I was stuck on with those tips and am now happily enjoying the game. Even more so now I'm shot of that Mustang.

Anyone know the spots for the hidden cars? I wanna try to get them, but there is way too much land for me to look all over for the wrecks. Same with the pictures.

I don't understand the corners in this game. There seems to be no way to take corners in this game in a race and not wreck. The power break seems kind of useless too. I wish it was like Ridge Racer drifting.

it's too bad wreck and photo locations don't show up on the map after you've found them. especially the photos. as I haven't started doing those yet, and have only put bookmarks on a few of the locations I've found. got all the wrecks on ibiza.. but can't remember most of the locations. heh. if you decide to go for all roads you'll encounter all of them though, I recommend driving on all roads, it's awesome. but probably not something that is for everyone, hehe. I love the shit out of it though, not usually this OCD about games, but TDU road driving works perfect for me.

edit: oh wow, this guy's put up videos for all wreck locations! http://www.youtube.com/user/MotoGamesTV

I just take corners mostly like I would have in any other racing game. like rfactor or whatever. heh. not sure what to say. brake, turn-in, hit apex and accelerate out. don't really use the emergency brake for anything. only use the normal brake for sliding in off-road races.

Engine sounds sure suck. Some are downright hilarious.

And it doesn't help that I was playing NFS Hot Pursuit before this game. Gotta love those engine roars every time you select a car too.

there's youtube videos for them, but if you drive on all the roads you get most of them anyways. I only missed 1 or 2 after getting 100% on the roads of Ibiza. The VW beetle you get from it is lol worthy though, what a piece of shit with like 30 hp.

BTW the Ferrari 458 Italia is best for the A2 races. The other one is good for speed on long runs but the handling isn't good enough from 60-100 to be doing quality racing when there are a lot of turns. I'm not sure why cars ranked as being higher difficulty actually handle waaay better.

I decided to buy three houses, hahaha. I got the awesome house with the aquarium and a stilt house in Oahu, then I traded in my old mountain house for a much more pimpin house with an awesome view of the bay. I still have plenty of money left, but I think I want to win some more to get that special Zonda that costs over a mill. It's even better than the Enzo.

Hey, Eden.

Not letting us sell cars we won (i.e., the pink Mustang) is a dick move.

Especially when, to get new garage space, it costs upwards of $100K to buy a new house just for 2 garage slots.

I wouldn't mind not being able to sell
the worthless
cars you won if:
1) The idiots didn't keep calling you back until you accept their challenge.
2) You could choose which garage to put them in.

I do like a lot of things in this game, but the thing is, the parts that are bad to me aren't even challenging to program. It just takes some common sense to include them.

Maybe if I buy a million dollar house with a pimped out garage, I want to put my cars in it.

Maybe if I'm pressured to accept challenges, it should be my option as to what I want to do with the winnings.

Maybe if I can sell cars as a last resort, I might want to do that ahead of time just to have the money ready.

Maybe I don't want to spend 2-3 extra hours on scanning the map at full zoom for that last 1% of road when it could just be highlighted at that point.

Maybe borderlines for the different areas on the roadmap could prevent the task of finding 100% of roads in just one area from being so annoying half the time.

Maybe if you give me only an hour in game-time to take a photo, I'd like an alarm clock so I don't have to pause and check the time so much.

Maybe I'll want to bookmark photo or car wreck places and come back later, and would be greatly assisted by the ability to name each bookmark.

Maybe if I'm buying a new outfit, I'd like to see how it all looks together before I start buying each item.

Maybe I don't want to play manual, but I also don't want to wait 2-3 fucking seconds for the dumbass AI to switch into 1st gear at the start of a fucking race.
okay this one really burns

Maybe you shouldn't smoke crack when you design the chase mode for your game.

I mean... I really do like the game, but there are so many little things about it that make you wonder where their heads were at.

Did everyone complaining about the handling pick the Mustang at the start or something? It's no GT5 but it's not bad for an arcade racer. Way better than Midnight Club LA.

Pretty much this! Once I was rid of the Mustang all my problems were gone. I regret winning Miami's whore-mobile though, now I'm stuck with the thing!

No, I picked the Lotus and I still hated the handling - I've gotten used to it though and am now much more comfortable with the way the handling works, but that's not to say that I think it's actually any good.

Anyone got the club houses to work? It just says the TDU2 server isn't available, even though I'm online with other players.

Im trying my best to get use to the handling on mustang(one of the starter vehicles)but I cant seem too. Does handling on later cars get better or is it just the mustang is the worst one to start with?

Edit: I guess my question got answered above me :)

why does this game sound worst than TDU1?

Okay, I've finally tried TDU2 PC with my Logitech Driving Force GT wheel. I found that the Deadzone was massive even with the Deadzone setting all the way to the left. I did a search on the net and I found out that you need to turn Steering Sensitivity down to 0 as well to eliminate the deadzone.

So turn down both Deadzone and Steering Sensitivity if you're on a wheel. I also have Steering Dampening (if I understand correctly, Steering Dampening is an active steering assist) turned all the way to the left and I'm playing on Hardcore. I put vibration, force feedback, throttle linearity and brake linearity to full as well.

So far the game feels pretty good with these settings. I'm starting to enjoy this as much as TDU1. Only thing I hate now is the stupid cutscenes.

Very good suggestions. I am truly having a ton of fun with this game (serer issues aside, and I paid for the Casino and can barely even use it). Seems like suggestions like this could be patched into the game, creating a better experience. Hopefully Eden/Atari keep up with their "customer satisfaction" angle even after all these launch issues are fixed.

if you click the default to device button (star or x thing, the blue button on the interface), and choose a wheel, it defaults to deadzone/damping all the way to the left and sensitivity more to the left. I still like to have brake ratio more to the right as well for most cars. but the default device settings are pretty good.

clubs are still offline. they'll be brought back online as soon as they implement the fix for the multiplayer race cheating/exploit stuff that was going on immediatly after the game was released.

I did the default device setting but there was still a big deadzone due to the sensitivity setting.

Theres a small bug where when you finish test driving a car, vibration is still happening in your wheel until you leave/test drive another car.

I think one big mistake Eden made was removing the high amounts of motion blur. I think it gave the game a slightly more realistic look.

While my annoyances are many, they are minor. I've already played over 40 hours... wrap your mind around that. While I would say something like Dirt 2 is a "better racer" the brutal truth is that I never played it like this. This game has a great deal of fun and annoyances in ratio with that amount of fun. Plus a lot of them would be far less irritating if the experience weren't thrust entirely onto single player. Imagine if I could break up the monotony of searching for roads with online games anytime and make money while doing it, allowing for more cars and garages, etc. The faults would be a lot more tolerable, but because of asshole cheaters finding every exploit they possibly can, that is unavailable right now.

Here is how I look at prices anymore:

The game world = $10
Even if there was no racing, these islands are massive and beautiful to explore. Driving down certain highways and dirt mountain paths I just cruise along and marvel at it.

The "I want it NOOOOW" fee = $10
Sales don't take very long to happen, so if I'm buying something right away, I just consider the price my impatience as well as support of the developer for something that I'd be impatient about. The overall concept of this game is fantastic and I want to further the development of it in the future.

Single player = $15
Are the races and extras worth it? I'd say yes, despite the faults.

Multiplayer = $5
What? Only worth $5? Well yes, but that is because I don't have many gamer friends on Steam with this game. If the concept succeeds as the developer dreams, this value could go up enough that the single player quality is irrelevant. We'll see how things are when we can start a GAF club. Easy to find matches with each other and we could challenge other clubs. Wouldn't that be cool? You can also design your own challenges, so we could make them for each other to try out. It could seriously become pretty good.

Then obviously the whole thing functions as a platform for DLC additions. If those end up being worthy of their prices, they also further validate the price of the base game to support them.

No way, I love the just-barely-cartoon look of this game, and not having real motion blur until you top over 150mph and you get that rushing wind sound is muuuuch preferred over the way so many racing games overdo it these days.

Is there any level of car customization?

You can buy stickers for your car - not sure how many layers are possible, but just don't expect it to be in any way near as good as Forza's livery editor.

Okay, thanks. No upgrades or other visual changes then?

the tuning is car dependent though. some cars, like a couple of the ferraris (or all of them?), don't allow any changes at all. the tuning is for three different stats, I think they are speed/power/braking, like carmageddon hehe. and they go from the standard 0 and up to 4.

You can't change the paint or tune anyof the Ferraris as far as I'm aware. The GTR can't be repainted either, nor the Lotus Evora that you win.
Online servers aren't on for the PC at the moment. Major cock-up there.

There's a fair amount I don't like in this game; the models for the people look rough, voice acting is laughable and far too repetitious, you can't skip cutscenes, AI is mechanical and basic (I particularly dislike the AI cars that you can 'challenge' in single player as they have a tendency of driving straight at you for no good reason except break you FIRM multiplier), cockpit views vary from acceptable to downright stupid (why did they take out the option to adjust your view?) and engine noise vary wildly in quality.
However, I absolutely love the core gameplay of the game. The cars don't look too bad considering. And the handling, whilst difficult to get right due to the seemingly backwards settings, once you get a feel for it it's fine for an arcade game.
There is a lot wrong with it and it's current lack of online means the game is currently incomplete. But I'm having a blast.

yeah, the servers are offline right now on pc at least. I think the forum admin is supposed to give a dev update in about one hour.

I definitely hope they put some of those options back into the pc version. especially for in-car view. being able to toggle the auto head movement on/off, and adjusting seat. maybe a fov setting somewhere for triple screen users. and trackir support! not expecting trackir support :(

shift 2 doesn't/isn't going to have trackir support either it seems like. or at least not officially. that's even worse.

I really don't know about this game right now. I'm sort of enjoying it and then I'm sort of not.

Did the 1st one have some sort of story to it cause I can't remember and if it didn't good knows why they bothered for this one. The characters are just annoying. I just want to race.

The radio station choice is a joke. I'm already bored of the tunes, of which aren't on the whole great anyways, but then you also get these annoying fake ads. They need to patch custom soundtracks and quick.

Can't get online on the PS3 version the past 2 days and yesterday I couldn't even play the game when signed into PSN.

Also had a car wreck ? puzzle piece icon come up on screen flashing. Where am I supposed to look for this? Do I have to search around houses in my car?

Loaded up my game (360) today and my save was corrupted, losing me a ton of progress.

I know I didn't exit the game while it was saving, so I'm at a loss as to what caused this.

EDIT: Reading the official forums, a few people have had their saves corrupted after using the guide button to go back to the dashboard shortly after saving. That's how I quit the game, but I always waited for the save icon to disappear.

Yeah, search in the general area for the wrecked car - the puzzle piece icon will flash faster the closer you get and you need to find all 10 in an area to unlock the car.

yeah, this thing is on their list.

Corrupt Save Files? - This is a known issue. There is a chance that this error message may come up erroneously. If this occurs, exit to the Xbox Dashboard immediately without clicking "Delete" or "Retry." - we're working on a long term fix. If the workaround does not resolve the problem, unfortunately there are currently no known methods of recovering a corrupted save file.

TDU1 didn't have a character/story in the single player races/cups like this one does, no. only the weird models and hitchhiker and delivery characters and those didn't have weird little stories either. but you don't really have to compete in the cups if you don't want to, maybe except the first one. you can just level up without that stuff. although you won't get to level 60. I love the bizarro characters and stupidity myself. doesn't how obnoxious they are just make you want to beat them even more? hehe. even if they aren't very good competition.

Woo, just did the Ibiza tour race in 43:50 with 11 minutes to spare - the hardest section was a bit with a load of small jumps; for an arcade racer, this game sure as hell punishes you for taking jumps at high speed.
