I remember a quote from Steve Jobs, when announcing the first iPad, I believe. Talking about the iPod, iMac, and iPhone before, he said something to the effect of "A company would be proud to be associated with just one of those products. We're lucky enough to have done all of them.". I think something very similarly about Carroll. The 289/427 Cobra, the Daytona Coupe, the GT40*, the GT350/500 Mustangs, etc. You'd be lucky to be associated with just one of any of those, but to be the main force behind all of them?? Legendary indeed.

* EDIT- I was off in my memory. He was only associated with the later versions of the GT40, not their entire development.

So I am going to look at a 2004 Acura TL w/ Dynamic Package (6MT, LSD, Larger front brakes). Anyone have experience with these?

BoobPhysics absolutely loved his TL. He called it one of the best handling FWD cars and I think they look absolutely great.

04 TL would be a very nice ride.

I really liked all the Acura TLs I looked at before I bought my G. Drove quite well, and had a good amount of power. Nice interior as well.

Congrats dude! Details please!

this car was really treated bad and its a great project, hell I only paid $1700 for this car, 174k miles, the front veilside replica bumper is torn to pieces, but I dont care I dont like that style anyway, need to get the stock front bumper and pull a couple dents out and this car will be crisp, that I and I am thinking the turbo should be rebuilt. and original Steel Mist Grey Paint was painted over with rattle-can flat black, but it was done smoothly at least..

Always wanted to get one of those, awesome car.

Sad to see such a legend pass, grew up loving Cobra's of all styles and it's one of those cars even my completely non car loving friends knows and love.
Same thoughts. Always loved cobras and shelbys in general. RIP, great icon in motoring.

Get ready to spend a lot, and I mean a LOT of money. One of my buddies was an MR2 enthusiast and he poured a TON of money into that car. Finally he couldn't keep doing it and let it go, selling it to a poster on an mr2 forum (who turned out to be the same dude that sold him the car a few years before).

I have such a deep love for these cars its nuts, I used to have a 91 NA. I am going to run with the turbo engine for awhile, but I will plan for a 2GRFE swap, its a wonderous engine.

this turbo is just enough power to be satisfied for now though.

I'm not sure this is the right thread to ask but it can't hurt. Is it possible to get temporary auto insurance? Say we're going on a roadtrip in 1 guys car but he wants to switch off driving with other people. Everyone's a good driver but, just in case, is there a way to get some sort of short term insurance that lasts on the order of a week or 2 to cover the other people not insured for the vehicle?

I am pretty sure insurance covers "guest" drivers. You might want to check, but I am pretty sure most insurances have a provision for someone else driving your car.

It's going to look and run amazingly when you're done, totally jealous.

What are some good car podcasts? I don't have much of an interest in modern car reviews and stuff but anything specializing in older car maintence/restoration? Or just general podcasts, anything to scratch this itch!

Some dumb broad on my buddy's Facebook said of Carroll Shelby:

She: Am i too old??? Who was that?

Me: Carroll Shelby was 89 years old.

She: Ohhh, u guys made it sound like she was 15yrsold.

Me: He was a man...

Because you know...the interwebz has not been invented yet, and your dumbass clearly doesn't know how to use a motherfucking search engine. She isn't even that old, either. She looks 30.

The best Shelby ever made was the Dodge Omni Shelby GHLS. It was the granddaddy of the hot hatch/sport compact revolution that made classics like the Escort Cosworth, Nuova 500 Abarth, Mini Cooper S, Focus ST/RS, Dodge SRT-4, and other legendary pocket rockets.

And GLHS stands for Goes Like Hell S'More. Can't get more American than that.

I can't listen to it much. It's like listening to two uncles who think farts are way too hilarious. There might be some great info but Jesus it takes a long time to get it.

Yup, which I like the Autoblog podcast so much. I think they should have a separate one with how-to stuff.

I definitely see where you're coming from, sometimes they find certain things too funny and it can come off as a bit forced. That said I still enjoy it whenever I listen because it at least breaks down what potential problems are. This is great for me because all the cars I have driven could have anything go wrong at any time based on their mileage.

Is that a Galant VR4? Man I love that car, wish I could drive one but they are so rare in the United States.

Yep, but it's a JDM one. Has a better intercooler, intake manifold, injectors, turbo, stronger rear diff compared to a USDM VR-4. Engine and drivetrain are very similar to Evo 1-2. Also has power folding mirrors.

You really expect some hausfrau, soccermom or party chick (or woman at all?) to know who he is? I'm not surprised or disappointed. He's before many of our times, as is.

Oh, another reason to hate minivan and SUV drivers (remember, a proper JEEP or other offroad vehicle is not an SUV):

95% of the time they're driven by an inattentive moron or airheaded soccer mom who should probably not be on the road and thinks that nothing bad can happen to them because they're in their big safemobile.

They drive too slowly, with their heads in the clouds, and are a danger to everyone else on the road. Also those vehicles are almost universally uglier as a the blind side of a meth head's asshole these days.

I've never seen a vehicle as offensive as the current Infiniti QX or the Nissan Quest. (Don't say Aztek, that's like an automotive Godwin)

Hey, random question but are you a member at MR2.com or MR2oc.com?

Of course because in Japan everything is better.

Most of the kit-car versions are called roadsters and not Cobra due to copyrights. The kit is around $20K.

I briefly entertained the idea of getting one. Who makes this one, Factory Five?

Ahhh, it used to be. Still is, sometimes. Stuff gets 'changed' for American tastes. (one reason I'm swapping to a JDM engine instead of the US 2.5)

I would actually love to know a case where the USDM or the EDM (?) of a Japanese car is actually better than the JDM version, they tent to keep the best for themselves..

and N-Bomb, yea the JDM version is good, but what most people argue is that if you swap in with JDM you have to worry about the access of replacement parts when something goes bad, with a USDM 2.0 or 2.5 you can just head over to NAPA, Autozone, Advance Auto Parts.. ect.. and pick them up.

It depends on the engine, but since my car uses the very popular 4g63 engine, I've had no problems finding parts for my car. I needed a new axle a couple years ago, and I got one over the counter from a parts store made for an Eagle Talon.

On the downside, there is a crack in my rear window sprayer. Since only USDM Galants didn't come with rear window wipers, any part of the rear washer assembly is not available here. That includes the rear window glass if it were to ever break.

But in general, your point is a very good one.

I don't think it's so much keeping the best as the US market is pretty crap for enthusiasts. The US market for enthusiasts also tends to have different values - low-end torque rather than high-end horsepower, bigger cars, softer suspensions, etc.

There is truth here. The good thing though about enthusiast cars is a vibrant aftermarket, and in the case of Japanese cars, a good supply of JDM stuff being brought over if the community is large enough.

My Celica never had much good aftermarket support, even at its peak before I got into it, glad that's different with the Scoobaroo.

Ditto. One reason I've decided against putting the JDM rear wiper on though. Engine's worth it, something like that, not really (to me).

SUV drivers drive too slow? You should come to Atlanta. Not only do most commuter SUV drivers not know how to drive, they do so at high speeds.
