Scarbs says the design and packaging of the McLaren / Honda is way ahead of the competition.
Where is that from? Scarbsf1.com hasn't been updated since September last year.
If that layout is true, Merc might be the power leader for a long time to come. PEACE.
Thanks. I stand by my original assertion that something really weird happened, and McLaren PR is to blame for any conspiracy theories flying around. They weren't punctual, clear nor consistent with their messages about the incident. I just wish the best for Alonso. He doesn't need question marks swirling about his health to start the season. PEACE.Good summary of the Alonso situation from the BBC. A little long so I won't block quote it here.
Sorry, does that mean it is legitimate or not? I'm not familiar with El Pais.

Our big news of today is that we have now passed the FIA crash tests. Well done team! That's it - we're all set for Melbourne!
I've love to see the car. I'm wondering if it looks anything like the wind tunnel model from Marussia.
Ferrari is still going to supply the engines?
We're not posting from someone's blog. It's basically the New York Times or Washington Post of Spain, mainly Madrid.
"When I arrived at Toro Rosso, I started greeting [Ferrari team principal] Stefano Domenicali and the Ferrari technicians who took care of my engine," Vettel told Gazzetta dello Sport.
"With Domenicali, starting from 2008 when I was at Red Bull, I discussed once and again about a potential future for me at Ferrari.
"In 2010 there was another approach, but again with nothing put to paper.
"In the winter between 2012 and 2013 I even secretly went to Maranello to meet Montezemolo and talk about this subject."

Vettel always wanted to drive for Ferrari at some point and never really made a secret out of it.

Interesting.
Indeed, but secret meetings with Montezemolo right after Alonso's efforts in 2010 or 2012 Ferrari crapbox are quite interesting.
Spanish press is saying that Alonso was cleared by his doctors yesterday (no concussion syntoms anymore? What is the protocol does anyone know?). It seems so strange to see this situation, I've seen Alonso being cleared at least 5 times this week. When does the 21 days clock start? Yesterday?.
Did you thought the multiple people hinting at a LOI signed a couple of years ago were just kidding around?
This was like the Alonso move to Ferrari. Everyone knew it would happen sooner or later, in the case of Vettel it happened 1 year earlier because RBR wasn't the dominating force so it couldn't avoid him activating his get-out clause.
Well it's not like Alonso was really being a good boy and not visiting other teams factories while still under contract with Ferrari, right? Remember the infamous trip to RBR begging for a seat in 2013 than Abad suddenly tried to hide as "I'm just here talking to Horner and Dietmer because of Carlos Sainz Jr. even when Felix da Costa and Kvyat are the only real contenders for a future seat"?
Even though he's cleared as being perfectly fit, when it comes down to high grade concussions, having 2 of them by nature of some freak accident does a lot of damage. He could definitely drive this week, and finish the race no problem. But they're scared about the big "IF". Which is, What if for some crazy reason he gets in an accident again and hurts his head. With concussions, the longer you wait, the better it is for your well being. You could say McLaren are being SUPER OVERLY CAUTIOUS, but at this point, why risk another PR nightmare?
"[This is] to minimise the chances of second impact syndrome, as is normal medical procedure when treating athletes after concussions.
"In order to limit those environmental risk factors, specifically, his doctors have advised that he should not compete in the imminent Australian Grand Prix." Autosport
Yes that part makes perfectly sense and in my opinion it should be FIA mandatory like Sid Watkins wanted. If you get a concussion, you are only cleared to drive when you are free of that second impact syndrome (the so called 21 days). Don't leave that on the hands of the driver, imagine someone saying that to a driver fighting for a WDC if he has to miss 2 races because of SIS risk. He will probably told the doctors to fuck off. That's why the sport should take that option out of their hands in my opinion. ALthough the risk it would be what happens in football and NFL which is drivers hiding symptoms from doctors. Alvaro Pereira lost consciousness during the England game on the WC, mild concussion and still stayed in the game. Multiple NFL players hide concussions because they know they are not allowed on the field if they got a concussion.
My doubt is that we've seen news about Alonso being cleared at least 3 times (hospital, last week and now yesterday), so my doubt is when does the 21 days actually start.

You should do one with one of Buttons Honda era beards and Lewis with his current wtf hipster hair.I got Valtteri BOTTAS. Wtf1 pls.
I made a couple more faces for the upcoming season.
It's so weird. Wasn't one of the reasons the Renault was so down on power compared to the Mercs because of the lack of a split turbo? Surely knowing that, Honda had enough time to change the design in time for this year's season.Scarbs' comments on the Honda packaging seems weird to me. For one, his drawing doesn't show a more compact form factor. Not to mention, McLaren doesn't have the tightest packaging right now, as they can't cool the damn thing. They have one of the more bulbous engine covers on the grid. They slimmed the sidepods, but that cooling solution just got stacked on top of the engine.
Interesting that they didn't go with a split turbo. That design is probably what accounts for Merc's power advantage. It should give them an advantage on intake temps. They should be able to run with more compression than the other two engines. I thought the reason people thought Honda would be able to compete on power was because they'd pursue a similar solution. If that layout is true, Merc might be the power leader for a long time to come. PEACE.
