Nintendo is actually supporting the Wii U. You can't say the same thing for Sony and the Vita.
Funny how people seem more forgiving to a Sony piece of hardware, but then I remember where I'm posting.I think the Vita will eventually pick up, carried by the PS4. The remote play/streaming is nice to have, especially as the years go by and Internet connections continue to improve.

well it hasn't happened yet...I really doubt there's a future for the Vita. the only territory where it isn't completely irrelevant is Japan and that's because it's only halfway irrelevant there.
Literally not a big deal if the current install base continues to buy software by the boatload
Thats where the money is made or did people forget that hardware margins are typically very low?
Its never going to be the Monster that 3DS was but its a prefectly successful and attractive machine
Its like you guys are missing the steady growth the system has seen. Especially in Japan

It is a big deal since software sales will be limited if Vita consoles are not being sold. You sell more Vitas, you sell more Vita games. Trust me, there is a very strong correlation between the two.
Probably the WiiU

Vita will eventually live PSP's legacy. As the PSP is slowly dying Vita is gaining great momentum in Japan.
I'm not sure about Wii U, it doesn't have the half of Japanese support of Vita. Plus Nintendo is already talking about successor fusion consoles, that's not a good sign.
What sort of time frame are we talking here? I've seen others say that remote play will help move Vita's and looking at yesterday's NPD numbers, that hardly seems to be the case.
Cant believe Vita is still getting so much doom and gloom here on GAF
WOW

If they profit and see steady growth (as they have stated) then I dont see what the problem is
Its not making PS4 money but it honestly doesn't need to.
Its serving its new intended audience and isn't costing them money. Where is the problem?

'Boatload'.
Right.
Also, Japan does not equal the World.
I actually think Nintendo will "win" E3 this year if they have a conference.
New Zelda, info blowout on X, more Bayo 2, NFC game, more Smash character reveals, some new software announcements, potential price drop to $249. There could also be the reveal of QoL or their new handheld.

That being said though what's with the Sony won't do anything for vita? They announced 3 games this week from their own first party studio that will be making it way to the system. As well as more games they'll be adding to the library be it ports or what have you. Sure they aren't the announcements you want, but it isn't the bastard step child you're all making it seem to be.
Technically its the only system in Japan with momentum - its the only system up YoY in Japan.
There are two things Vita needs right now: a Minecraft bundle in North America and for Sony to push for more support from the Japanese third-party heavyweights (i.e. Bandai Namco, Square Enix, Level 5, Atlus, Capcom, etc.)
Neither of those things should be dependent on an E3 showing of any kind. So long as hardcore gamers are aware of the Vita, know it will continue to be regularly supported with a steady stream of Japanese and Western indie content for the next several years, it'll be fine.
The OP's question has a simple answer. Wii U. Nintendo needs to have a legit showing to make their system at least seem like a big deal again.
Lol why do people think this?
At the very Least Vita is on the rise in its homeland while WiiU is universally tanking around the world.
Pretty sure Vita's software sales numbers currently trump the WiiU

They'll need new games for this E3. We've known about all of those for years now.

Vita is dead, it can't be saved. Wii U is on life support.
They may be making a small profit on the Vita and software after expenses, but the problem is investors may think Sony is better off taking its resources and putting them somewhere else that will earn a higher return. That means no, or fewer, internally developed games, less resources spent on getting third party content, less shelf space in retailers, and so on.
Arrogance from those in charge means they will never be what they clearly could.
Well it sold more than 3DS and 3DS XL combined in Japan last week while 3DS was still getting quality software. (23,500 3DS, 24,000 vita). That's what I call "great".
I guess they're talking about sales only.
Or, at least, I hope.
