Do you have some kind of shill-o-meter widget next to all of our names that only mods can see?
Because that'd be cool.
Pretty sure Bish comes with a shill-o-meter built-in.....

Who would buy an Xbox purely for for its media capabilities? And if they decided to, then surely they would find something justifying a subscription, otherwise they WOULDN'T buy it.
What games will Sony give at launch of the ps4?
It's why I've been souring on Microsoft the last few years, and now that I think about it STILL want to see them either get beaten as badly as Sony earlier this generation or even outright forced out as their policies DO spread one way or another, and it's even more frustrating given how for DLC they seemingly have very rigid definitions on minimum costs rather than at least a policy of "uhh whatever just as long as it's not free", see how Sleeping Dogs's first significant DLC was $5 on PSN/Steam... then jumped to $7 the next day thanks to XBL.Microsoft ACTIVELY prohibits developers from putting up free content. Marble Blast Ultra wanted to make some DLC free and Microsoft FORCED them to add a price. Same with all the Left 4 Dead maps.
Microsoft wants a cut of everything and they'll actively kill any generosity.
Don't use this as if it magically nullifies our argument. We won't always want to hold on to that subscription, and we pay for these subscriptions specifically for certain features exclusive to it, just because we'll have it anyway doesn't justify locking services down to it just because despite being offered at no extra cost elsewhere. Hell, I wager most of us who used Netflix on PS3 ALSO did so before we got Plus because we didn't care to have it at the time and didn't like being beholden to a third subscription (Internet + Netflix) out of principle. If you have a PS+ membership your argument is invalid, otherwise I can see your dilemma.
A f2p game that's free?!
To play?!
Excuse me?A f2p game that's free?!
To play?!
Definitely. Going for that 500 orbs!
Just the partial drive club game and probably indies. You got to build the library up first. In the mean time they will probably be giving away psvita, psp, ps1, minis, and ps3 games spread out on their other systems.
On another note, the FTP games might have a scheme with Sony which allows them to get past the PS+ pay wall. Could it be possible that Sony get's a percentage of the micro-transactions in those games? Thus acting as a way to monetize the game without PS+? Or is my guess completely wrong?
The skies are falling.
But seriously, who has an Xbox without Gold? Why even bother with the system?
We've already gone over this 90000 times in this thread. Over 60% of all 360 owners don't have Gold.
Sure, after you pay $60!A f2p game that's free?!
To play?!
I think they mean cable listings and general cable interactions. Which I guess requires at least maintaining listings on their end, but then why not just use the cable box instead? That's $60 a year for Kinect functions and the minor convenience of going through a single output for everything, though to me switching back and forth between game mode would be more of a nuisance. When they refer to the XB1 TV Guide feature, does that mean everything like using Kinect voice commands to change channels and such?
If so, that's pretty fucked up that that would require XBL Gold.
I don't even have to click on "Public Profile" anymore to ascertain accurate guesses - within days! - of when certain posters registered.
Don't lie, revel in your awesomeness.Im not going to lie, I downloaded that game to finally get that achievement. It only took six years to get it done.
People are complaining that Smart Match requires gold? Lolwut? Seriously?
The Tv thing I can understand but Smart Match?
Note how little of the conversation even cares about that aspect. It's just yet another feature to mark off.People are complaining that Smart Match requires gold? Lolwut? Seriously?

I'm very curious to know what Sony does with these free games once PSN+ becomes a lot bigger than it is now due to having locked multiplayer behind it. I imagine they have to pay companies based on how many people download their game or something during the free period. Once it becomes the size of the Gold userbase, it should be interesting to see what happens. Nothing like giving a recent game out for free to a 25 million user userbase.
On topic, yes, locking the media shit behind gold is refuckingtarded.
Because more than like 3 posts of the 1000+ so far have been complaints about SmartMatch being behind the paywall
Complaints are about TV guide and DVR being behind paywall
Old complaints about Netflix and others are also being discussed
I would think that Sony does pay quite a bit for such games. Companies might also accept less money to submit their game to Sony PS+ so that it can be promoted. For example, giving away sleeping dogs is only a win win for both companies as it gives content for PS+ and it promotes a game that a lot of people passed on since it was a new IP. Added to that, the new owners of the game will now buy the DLC.
Sony can also promote their first party titles by releasing half games. Such as the single player portion of starhawk or the multiplayer portion of killzone and uncharted.
PS+, IMO, is a content pusher. The more people using PS+ the better it is for both Sony and third party sales. MS should have really emulated this idea instead of walling off features so that they can claim that gold has value.
Here's the problem I have with the complaints. I see the same people complaining about this slamming MS in every thread so I know they aren't buying an XB1. So why do they care? It sounds like console war bs as opposed to genuine disappointment.

I wonder if giving free games to PS+ might net you as a publisher some type of discount with PSN
I.E. whatever the fees you get on games go down or something for such and such
Maybe not though
Excuse me?

all the talk about 'smartmatch' just reminds me of how much hype MS had over the rep system and gamerzones prior to the 360 launch that ended up more than useless. it's a nice thing to talk about but i'll let it weigh in on my opinion once i find out just how useful the function is. for now it's basically just a buzzword that could end up in segregating communities in a good or very bad way.
You can guarantee Sony will get a cut of any microtransactions.
These things don't bother me. If I buy an Xbox One, I'll have a gold subscription. If I buy a PS4, I'll have a PS+ subscription. Both consoles are, to me, incomplete without the subscriptions.
Oh shit, user IDs are over 200 000 now. I still sort of automatically think people over 90 000 are new to the site.
That will be expensive, no?

Short of playing DVDs/blu-rays (or so I'd fucking hope)? Yeah, I think you got that right. So, let me get this straight........
If I went to get an Xbox One, as the center of my entertainment center, as the "One" device to bring everything together, and not for a gaming machine, I will still have to buy Xbox Live to use it simply as an entertainment machine?
hi welcome to nextgen gaming. That will be expensive, no?
I agree and I think Sony is doing the same thing. Just in different ways. Microsoft is putting basically everything that should be free behind a paywall to make people want to pay for Gold while Sony is providing games every other week to get people to sign up.
From what I see, the Sony incentives are a million times better since instead of denying a majority of features, they are providing gaming content.
Shame on microsoft.
hi welcome to nextgen gaming.
I would love to see a poll of how many people in GAF don't have either a ps+ or live sub.
back to topic, I would say that the tv stuff is shitty if its behind the pay wall. GAMEDVR I understand as long as you can still record locally without uploading.

It does suck but with my income and just $5 a month it's worth it to get the exclusives. I know some find it hard to believe but MS does have some fantastic "console exclusives" that make it worth the $5. Get away from the forums for a while, enjoy other things but gaming. You'll realize how many times you'll drop $5 in a WEEK on something stupid. And if it does bother you that much don't invest a dime with MS, which you are probably already doing. Thank you for your concern though.See? "Sucks, but what can you do...?" I'll tell you: don't buy their hardware if you think it's a screw job. Grumbling about it is meaningless if you're doing it while forking over your money.
Refraining from letting them get away with it also means the XBox you buy tomorrow instead of today will have less bullshit attached, but I'm constantly amazed at the number of people who--even realizing all this--still manage to actively not care.
