Another game that should be releasing on the West simultaneously. Too bad. Will wait for a West release I hope.

Get ready to wait a long long long time. Considering how long it took for them to finally do up 5 which was a miracle considering the sales of the games leading up to it...

Perhaps if 5 sells enough or if for example Sony puts out $$$ for localization perhaps, but even then I doubt Sony would do that considering they know of the sales numbers also and would not look like exactly a viable investment for such a low potential return.

Highly unfortunate situation for a fantastic series, but cant say that Sega has not tried all this time. Considering how much work is necessary to even localize the title in the first place.

Bought it alongside ishin and kenzan! at softmap. It's a re-wrapped second-hand copy I think though.

Will have a lot on my plate when I get back home.

Great pickups, you're headed to a fun time, yeah Kenzan had already went into its "The best" of version back in I wanna say 2008 and its the version I have.

Thepatrick has a great guide for it on Gamefaqs, I used it for my second playthrough and of course KHHSUBS has his guides for Ishin and coming soon Zero(though there's a lot done of it already).

I knew about the thepatrick guides. Thanks for the heads-up- on the KHHSUBS ones. It might be ready by the time I get to 0. I want to be done with Bloodborne / FF type-0 before getting on these. There's also 5 I'll replay through in English this summer.

It's going to be weird going back to Kamurochou after actually walking around kabukichou. I was sollicited "for a good time" not one minute inside after taking this picture.

alright so I'm stuck I think

I'm trying to finish out majima's club management, and I'm on club [MOON], but I can't get it to progress any further.

I've got over 10k fans in the area, I'm rank S, I've done every side story, I'm in chapter 8, I've recruited every girl, I "bought" every property... I thought maybe I had to visit [MOON] but nothing happens

wtf am I missing?

edit: you have to beat the first story mission in 8 to trigger it

I'm beginning to think it maybe takes a little too long to complete this stuff

Questions for the story. Obvious spoilers:

So, Dojima is a scoundrel; how did his actions not affect him (getting him kicked out of the Tojo clan)? What were Shibukawa's motivations? (there was a still image of his dad(?) hanging himself). What is the whole deal with Majima's 'warden'? What group did Maseru Sera belong to? And what is the story behind Tachibana and Makoto with the empty lot?

"You want Japanese Girls bro? We got the best Japanese girls at our bar. What? You don't like Japanese Girls? Come, come and get a drink at our bar. We'll hook you up. You don't want to go to that place you're going to, nah, you want to come and drink at our bar instead."

Ahhh solicitors :) Memories of telling them "No, I'm good" over and over again.

Nigerian or Japanese? The Nigerian's usually target the foreigners, or so I've noticed the last two times I was down Kabukicho way.

Near the batting center in the area between Shin-Okubo and Kabukicho there is a yakuza office around there somewhere. Ive seen the higher up come out in the early mornings and have the line on both sides of the lower ranking guys bowing as he headed to his ride.

Yeah there's a lot of Nigerian people in Kabukicho, though only see black npcs walking around in Y3, plus Mack might be as well as he claims to have grown up running on the plains of Africa.

Why would Dojima get kicked out of the Toujo Clan? He failed in his ambition to accumulate more money and missed his chance to get to the top and that's it.

Shibusawa is convinced that the world of the Yakuza is all about showing off how much of an Alpha male you are. No matter how capable you are, you need some kind of trophy or hallmark achievement to make it to the top. The same is true in politics, and while his dad was capable he didn't realize this simple truth which led to his death. Kiryu (as Kazama's proxy) is such a trophy.

Sera is the boss of a secret spec-ops group within the Toujo Clan. They co-operate with Kazama.

Not sure what you don't get about that piece of land, that's like, the whole story of the game. That land belonged to Tachibana's and Makoto's uncle. He sold off most of it in the years after the war, but kept that small lot as some kind of guidepost for the rest of the family in China, in case they come back to Japan. After his death, Makoto becomes the owner, which is why she is targeted by the Toujo-Clan.

Pretty sure it was Japanese.

We're in a ryokan in Kyoto until Friday, then 2 days in Osaka, before going back to Tokyo for a week.

Thank you.
From videos I've seen (I don't have full mastery of the JP language, so I was able to interpret bits an pieces, should have mentioned that earlier, sorry.). I knew a bit about the land and only Makoto's involvement - I just wanted more concrete details.

Man those disco mini games drive me insane trying to get triple star rating on the hard mode for some of the songs. D:

What with the huge douchebags that beat me up and take my money they hit like a damn truck

thats katsuage kun. basically easiest way to beat him is to buy bats and those heat recovery items and keep doing the heat action over and over till he gets KOed.

each time you defeat him he will appear again stronger.

Man what a dick robbed me twice lol

yeah i screwed up twice before too and lost like 1,200,000 yen. once you beat him though its a ton of cash for leveling. is what i used it for early on. at the shrine there is a skill that increases the amount of money he drops too i think.

man when the same guy comes back a third time you are pretty much screwed if he manages to hit you D: lol

The KHHSUBS guide is not ready yet ): guess ill be stuck on this part until he covers it i'm in chapter 2 i think and there is no marker ran all over town guess i have to buy a certain item or talk to a certain person / LOL i saw him a third time and i ran outta there you ain't taking my money this time bro..

Another day, another hope we will get a yakuza 1-2 HD western release... sigh, I want to start this series so bad

Just start with any game. They do a good job of giving you the key details of what happened beforehand and you never feel lost or confused about the story. I waited ages to start the series for the same reasons then just said fuck it with the PS+ release of Y4 and regret waiting so long. I went back and played the first game and even though you know the story of latter events it doesn't ruin the game.

It's set just two years after Shenmue... Will the game have any Shenmue references?

The game basically is Shenmue from a gameplay / design perspective. So the whole title itself is a reference to the original series that spawned it is how I see it. lol

Nice! What was your total game time?

For the first run on hard was about 179 hours but, I sent most time learning stuff and upgrading
the dragon of Dojima and Mad Dog styles when I didn't need to do so since playing on Legend resets you.

Then about under 8 hours on Legend with minimum upgrades(just attack up in thug style for Kiryu and attack up and some training with Areshi in dancer for Majima) and some broken 1985 shotguns for mook enemy encounters but I didn't rush as much as I should.

No it doesn't, yeah I know its a missed opportunity but I guess they didn't think it would have been worth adding one.

Thanks for the reply.

Thats pretty good. I dont think Ill have time to plat the game but I can most def see my play time go over 100 hrs also lol.

I really like the money = exp and money system better now. Makes things less of a pain in the ass overall. Unless you have bad luck and katsuage kun keeps showing up when you are out of supplies.

While there are a lot of old school gamers who still wonder about the series, in general Japan does not have the odd fixation that the West has. Its interesting considering the huge cultural gap with the titles too. You would think it would be reversed.

Yeah I spent my time getting trophies and 100% completion in the CP section on hard so that added to the time as well, most of the mini-games as usual are kinda time consuming to get the pass requirements like the casino and Japanese gambling games but they are moderately easy.

I did miss some trophies on my first run so I had to do them on Legend and the toughest was the arena one where you have to defeat 30 enemies in the unlimited frenzy fight, something that requires you to rank up from G to B(the fights give you money requirements to rank up but most the time time you get like 470k to 770k when you need like 3 billion) so had to grind out a bit and its tough when you don't have the health to take hits or the moves to deal damage or avoid it, so I did the one where you can choose your weapon and the floor disappears during the match so you can get to ring out opponents but often I got ring out myself, then for the unlimited frenzy you had to win 6 times in a row against 5 enemies which progressively gets harder. Of course one of the worse trophies overall was the cat fighting one when you think that mini game would be one of the fun ones.

Yes I love having money for the upgrading system, I dunno what RGG6 is gonna use(probably back to exp) but using money is so good since in the past games, money was kinda useless after a certain point where it become trivial.

I've just cleared my first run in the game, racked up probably 60 hours or so completing the cabaret club for Majima and the real estate for Kiryu.

It seems Kiryu is so much weaker than Majima in this game, the balance between them is quite unreal - I basically just stayed in Slugger style the whole game.

I love how Kamurochou looks better than anything in GTAV :)

This is my 1st Yakuza game, and so far I am really enjoying it. Only about 4-5 hours in, but I dig the brawler combat, the story is pretty intriguing, and the game world has a lot of character/charm. I was worried coming in about the difficulty of Japanese, but I have understood about 90% so far, usually just missing out on some of the finer details due to vocabulary that I never encounter in my daily life in Japan.

I picked up the Chinese version of this game - psyched it's in a language I can read and understand!

Good! Hopefully Sega releases it in more languages in the future.

Welcome to the fold. It's a great series. When you're done with 0 (and take a breather), check out Ishin, also on PS4. It's a samurai take on everything, with Kiryu playing the role of Sakamoto Ryoma in the 19th century. Fun and funny. Great game all around.

And yeah, the conversations include a lot of super-tough-guy speak and a lot of obscure slang. Don't feel bad about missing some words or sentences. It sounds like you're doing fine.

I'm always amazed by how many proficient speakers of Japanese there are on GAF. I have hardly put any time into Yakuza HD, but I know I'll love the series. I enjoyed what I played of 4.
unfortunately Kiryu can't ask random bystanders if they want to play Lucky Hit.
I'm looking for some sailors.

I revisited Y1 as Yokoyama recommended. I think Sera 世良 is awesome in Y0 even though he just followed Kazama's scheme. But I found he is just a small fish in Y1...man, it's more like you shouldn't play Y1 after Y0. The game doesn't connect well.

So. Many. Yakuza. Games.

And I haven't played even one yet. Even though I am so interested in the series.

Was very reliefed when Yakuza 5 was announced for the west. Bears very good for HD collection, this and maybe Ishin/Kenzan to come as well at some point.

Even more since more and more Japanese games find their way even to PC. Crazy good times for everyone.

The 80s setting is very cool. I like that in MGS:pP but even more for Yakuza since the Japanese 80s are so few represented in games.
Hope you guys have a lot of fun with it!

Its too bad 1 & 2 HD never came out in the West since those were originally PS2 titles and not exactly easy to find let alone folks still having a PS2 to play them.

So a lot of those new to the series find themselves starting with 3 and using the flashback feature to watch the previous game events.

I finally started playing 0 over the week-end while waiting on the Witcher 3 1.07 patch.

I'm in Chapter 2 and I'm not sure what to do to progress.

It's daytime after spending the night in Kiryu's appartment.
I've been doing substories (I think I got a trophy, for I want to say completing 10 of them?).

I got the yellow stance too.
And now I'm clueless as to what I should be doing, I've went around kamurochou so many times now and there's no objective marker.

I might be wrong, but isn't this the time you are asked to buy a cake or something like that ? I bought on the convenience store way up north.

I am also playing this, but I am slow. I lose way too much time with substories and minigames.
