The Official Howard Stern Show Thread

Noss: For a guy who won't pay for satellite radio, you seem to know an awful lot about the Stern show and what Howard does with his time.

Don't like the guy? Fine, move on and don't waste time thinking about it.

Hell, I pay 12 dollars a month just for Howard TV. The main reason I don't shell out the cash for satellite radio is that I only listen to the radio in a car, and I simply am not in a car all that often.

I don't hate Howard Stern at all, I just think it's a little silly to think he's somehow always miserable.

First of all, you're dismissing Stern's talent by saying stuff like "he just sits around talking." There are thousands of other people who have tried to do what he does and failed miserably. Second, having vacation days doesn't mean shit if you can't allow yourself to enjoy them. Hearing him point out the most minor flaws in everyone around him tells me he has no fun on his time off. He sits quietly somewhere thinking about shit, stressing over things he can't control, getting freaked out by inconsequential bullshit, etc.

As for Beth O., remember the expression, "For every supermodel out there, there's a guy who's tired of fucking her."

The grass always seems greener from the other side of the fence, but all I'm saying is that Stern's life seems far from perfect. I grant you that he's stinking rich and got a hot wife, but that doesn't mean he's enjoying it all.

From what I hear on the show daily, his staff and Artie are constantly out having a great time. Stern is the only loser who's going to bed early.

Ultimately, I wasn't trying to dismiss what Howard Stern is capable of doing. God knows there have been hundreds of asses who have tried to rip him off and failed miserably in doing so. When I made the comment about his only being on the air five hours four days a week, it was more referencing that he isn't exactly doing hard labor. It's not as if he's toiling away in the fields for a pittance.

And hell, I don't know the man. I haven't even heard his radio show. But for me, I think of Howard Stern as a perfectionist who always wants to do the best he can. Hearing what little I have about his personal life, he doesn't seem miserable to me. He seems like a guy who is perfectly able and wanting for a simple and quiet life. His radio show allows him to vent and dump a lot of bile and absurdity, but his personal life seems like one of simple wants and needs.

Ultimately, his life does seem perfect to me, for I don't see him as a miserable bastard. He can go wherever he likes; he can do whatever he wants to do. The fact that he doesn't want to do all the bs that a lot of people in his position of power and wealth COULD DO doesn't make me think he doesn't enjoy his position of freedom to my mind. It just means that he truly has the freedom to do what HE wants to do WHENEVER.

As to Beth O just being another supermodel...she probably isn't as hot as I imagine her, but every instance of her being on the show that I've seen just makes her seem so incredibly amazing.

As to what the rest of his staff does, I would imagine that Howard Stern feels a great deal of responsibility for ensuring that his staff will always have a job. Stern takes his position very seriously and will not show up half asleep and what not.

As such, has Stern ever missed a show?

And for the people who are wondering why the hell I care or know anything about Stern without ever hearing a show, I stress that I first got into Howard Stern through the E! show. I continue enjoying Stern through Howard TV. Ultimately, it means I hear less than 1 percent of the ACTUAL Stern show, but eh, I do mostly enjoy it. The Howard Stern show is like a horrifically disfunctional family that happens to have celebrities and porn stars come through for a chat or a sybian ride.

It's fun.

It is quite painful. Politics, too. Nobody really knows what they're talking about, so you're constantly cringing at the inaccuracies/misunderstandings. I hear it's the same when they talk about sports, but I don't know anything about sports myself, so I give them a pass on that.

He really doesn't do Fridays ever? Pretty lazy. I hated when Conan didn't do Mondays.
Conan needs to fill 45 minutes of show, while Howard does about four and a half hours every day. At the end of the week, most radio hosts who have a "long" talk show have done 15 hours (minus commercials) of talking about topics and taking lots of calls, if they work all 5 days. Stern delivers about 16 to 20 hours a week of mostly content with a handful of calls. That's with only 4 days.

I would prefer having him live on Friday as well, but think that what they deliver every week for the money I pay is well worth it, along with all the other programming I get from Sirius.

Robin [In reference to Howard's youngest daughter]-Does she have Blu-Ray?

-Well, they don't exactly let me in the house to check.
:lol :lol :lol :lol :lol :lol

Well, Conan (and other late night hosts) pretty much only have themselves to banter with. Guests are only on for maybe 10 minutes, you can only talk with the Announcers/band leaders so much, unless there is good chemistry. The shows are more or less scripted.

Howard and the crew can, will, and has, rambled on any subject, for 30 minutes to an hour. Oh, and the censor-free ability helps alot :D

Lol that Artie rap song is so bad.

And Artie is gonna pay $1000 to perform it nightly. He's so guilty about being rich that he's always giving money away.

Are we O&A fans still supposed to hate you Stern fans now that we're moving to the same building?

In all seriousness, I have a good friend who's a Stern fan and the shit we give each other is a lot of fun.

Geez, Sal needs to get divorced. He just has that old school mentality where a divorce will shit on his kids/cant get divorced.

Man, she laughed at him in therapy?
:lol :lol :lol :lol

He flipped out in front his kids? It's just depressing at this point.

Is anyone else sick of the diet stuff with Robin? It's great that it worked for her, but every time she starts talking I feel like it's an infomercial. And I looked up the Dr. Roni book that goes along with the plan she used, it sounds like a total scam.

And nobody but Gary seems to know what's going on with technology. At least he admits when he doesn't know what something does, everyone else just seems so sure of themselves and they come off sounding like my grandparents.

I've only been listening since around 2002, and can't stand most of the older guests. I get pissed every time they announce someone like Beetlejuice is coming in, because I know I'm going to be totally bored while they do the exact same thing and ask the exact same questions once again. I downloaded some shows from the 90s a while back and couldn't even listen to them. I can't put my finger on it, but something has changed for the better in the past ten years.

Stern is best when he takes someone that hasn't been in before and makes the conversation interesting so you find out stuff you've never known.

Well, I kinda dropped the thread (mostly because you fuckers dont contribute :D), but heres some new stuff.

http://twitter.com/sternshow

The show started doing it today and Howard himself does it from "about 5 hours ago." Pretty funny and I hope he keeps doing it. I doubt it though.

And monday is the start of vacation week! Yay!

But, it will be a week of the best fights, so that seems like it'll be awesome.

Does anyone else just tune out on vacation weeks? I listen to about 30 minutes and turn to something else. I like Howard when he's current, talking about whatever is happening now. Listening to fights that I heard years ago does nothing for me, even if it's packaged differently.

Well, fight week was awesome to me. The Allison Play was classic. They should of also added the "Vinigrette" fight, though.

Actually fight week was the first break programing (other than the jackie/john spotlights) that I really got into. It was like all the best parts of the show back to back to back. :lol

Dead

well not really...yet
Hugh Jackman interview was great

Makes me sad that the movie is crap, he's a great dude. (Not surprised Howard liked it though, he has such crap taste in those movies :lol )

Artie didn't even call in to tell Gary. He had someone tell Ronnie the Limo Driver. He's not sick, he has a show tomorrow and it's not cancelled. I think he'll be gone before the end of the year.

jim breuer should be arties replacement. he was awesome the other day. i'd love to hear jim's dad, joe pesci, and traci morgan chime in on a daily basis

Anyone hear the latest traido call? I just cant believe this one is real. I mean, "dropping loads of dirt"? Come on. I've heard rumors they've faked calls in the past.

That call is the funniest call they've ever made. I have no idea if the calls are fake or not, and I don't really think about it.

I just don't really worry about it.

And, to tell the truth, if it were to come out that some/all of the calls are fake, I dont know if I would find them less funny.

As an aside,

I thought Monday's show was fantastic. The Jimmy, then Ben AND Jimmy interviews were wayyyyy awesome.
