I wonder if they just took the blood out of the gunshots for the trailer? The game is rated M.

Also their logo looks a lot like the OWSLA logo.

No it looks bad. He shoots the guy in the stomach several times and there is no blood, no exit wounds, nothing. Yea, next gen my ass.

Or they didn't want to age-gate the trailer? So they removed the stuff that the ESRB would find objectionable just for the trailer?

The premise pf controlling EVERYTHING through a smartphone is a hige turnoff for me, not feeling this game at all, also the animation looks terribly robotic and unnatural.

Notice how shadows at night look extremely muffled or missing? Same thing happens with the console versions of open world games last gen. GTA IV on consoles has night shadows turned off completely, some things project shadows, but the majority of objects in the world don't. Seriously, compare GTA IV night time footage on a PC compared to console.

Watched it in HD, can barely see shadow projection at night time.

EDIT: I take that back, the lighting and shadows in general look really bad or missing.

You're really curving discussion in a positive way aren't you.

The gameplay shown in this trailer looked like a lot of shit getting beat up, blown up, and turned off.

Well, it is a trailer. Its designed to keep a fast pace.

Gameplay wise, watch dogs looks really appealing.

I have seen direct gameplay of someone playing the game live twice.

He created dynamic cover using solar panels to rise up.

He trapped a bunch of enemies by activating conveyors and causing construction equipment to go off

He escaped combat by blacking out the area and fleeing

He was able to stop cop chases by creating new pathways and closing of others (raising bridges and blockers)

Its a game focused on experimentation and that really appeals to me.

And for those wondering, this was at fanexpo. He played the same demo twice in different ways.

One time he got into a base by hacking the cameras, stealing an AI's data and strolled into the base, got what he needed and walked out without killing anyone.

Second time, he stapped an IED on a car, rammed through the gates got out, blew it up, used a lift to get to the rooftops, used solar panels to make cover. Killed everyone.

Experimentation appeals to me the most in terms of a game.

Well the hacking mechanics seem to be secondary to an action orientated gameplay experience from what I can see, its almost like the hacking is a minigame/quicktime rather than the basis of the game.

I hope I am wrong but that is certainly the way it seems, whilst hacking is obviously the basis of the game I do not expect it to be in-depth or anything special like some want it to be.
they are going lowest common denominator in this reveal trailer to get the action punk vote.

I imagine over time they will release some more strategic game play element trailers and dev explanations of various game play options.

I hope

Funny how this game has never looked as good as its debut footage. Oh well. At least it's finally coming. Definitely getting it for PS4 so I can backtrace my friends.

Please tell me there is someone on GAF who is excited about the gameplay possibilties introduced with the hacking?

Because reading this thread, it seems all people give a shit about is the graphics and Ze IMeRSANS! (oh noes, the bullets have no exit wounds, and the Ai faces doesn't realistically react to pain, the immersion is all gone)

The setting is what's turning me off, actually.

It looked like it had the potential to be unique when it was revealed, but now it's clear that Ubi just ticked every box in the AAA game checklist.

Live as in stage demo or live as in someone playing it on the show floor? If it was a live demo I don't know what to say, Ubisoft bullshits gameplay demos at E3 on a constant basis.

Looks clear that this game got a good bit of polish during the delay. Not a big deal to me if they're turned down a few effects knobs if they've got this running smoothly on PS4/XB1.

Live. Guy was playing it infront of me twice on a PS4. I know it wasn't bullshitted because the dude fucked up in a cop chase and flew into the river.

I think I started losing interest in this game when it started looking more like Assassin's Creed. It seems like much the same kind of design philosophy, just in a different setting. We've already seen some stealth stuff that looks like it'll be super frustrating to play through when you aren't a Ubisoft pro who's run through that mission a hundred times, and if I see any tailing or eavesdropping stuff I think I'm out. You just know there are going be missions where you tail a guy in a car and have to stay within a certain range, and your NPC passenger will shout out "Too close!" or "You're losing him!" the whole time.

I'd love to be proven wrong, though. My mouth was watering back at that amazing E3 reveal.

I really like the combat animations, although they look more suited to a pulpier game or perhaps one where the protagonist isn't some everyman. Why is he such a psycho?

After all of the delays and silence, what emerges is a trailer that makes a game that looked like a kinda pulpy open world game with an environmental hacking conceit look more like modern crap Die Hard meets that awful 90s Hackers movie. Maybe I'm just tired of over-the-top nonsense taking itself too seriously, but this trailer guarantees I'm not even going to bother renting this now before seeing some final gameplay.

Probably should have just seconded this post

you are saying they bullshit the game play elements described in the post you quoted?

as in showing game devices that will actually not be in the game?

how would that even work and why?

Pre-explosion, room is still dark.

Notice how almost none of the object shadows are changed or exist, shit, look at the objects. The explosion itself looks silly.

If this is next gen footage, holy balls did Ubisoft downgrade.

There is not much in this trailer to wow visually if you're a PC gamer. I'm holding out hope that in person the world and effects will create a more cohesive experience than this video indicates.

Also, what's up them keeping Kurtwood Smith's flubbed lines in?

"Trillions of barts of information..."
"Corpriate Espionage..."

Perhaps his character suffers from dysarthria.

From what we've seen, the hacking seemed to be boring and messed with the flow of the game. It was a gimmick to market a poor gta clone.

This trailer and the delay give me hope because the core gameplay seems to be improved and the focus of the game.

I want to drive cars, kill people and do cool shits and those part must be really good. The hacking system could be nice only if the core mechanics are top notch.

Alright. Those things you described sound neat if they have to be used cleverly, if the player can do most of those things constantly without downtime or consequence then those aspects won't influence core gameplay that much.

Finally! A release date for Watch Dogs #hypemayresume, just Driveclub now please Sony, if you'll be so kind!

The visuals didn't wow me, but it looks like fun. My hype is gone... I went from PS4 launch pre-order to probably picking up. I honestly hope the extra time pays off for them and us.

Glad we have a confirmed date now.

lolol game seems to look worse visually every trailer. Game looks potentially fun though, but those strippers look a bit... low res.

i'm betting this might be bundled with nvidia cards, so ill probably wait for that and get a new card (or just snag a code off ebay cheap).

Man what the fuck. I was so hyped for this originally.. I still am, but WHAT HAPPENED TO THE CAR DESTRUCTION PHYSICS?!?

No joke. At three points in the trailer cars crashed into stuff, and no crumpling of the car occurred like in the original E3 demo. Trailer hit all the marks otherwise, but there's definitely been some adjustments to how the game actually works from how they wanted it to work. :/

Cross-Gen blues for sure.

3 days before Mario Kart 8. Now i understand the delay on Wii U.

People keep touting this line, and I don't buy it. In my opinion, it is far worse to delay the game beyond its other console releases than to release close to another big game on the system. This is a multi-generation, AAA release from a major publisher. As big as Mario Kart is, it won't overshadow the game's release. If there is an audience who want to buy the game on Wii U, they will do so instead of, with, or soon after Mario Kart.

If you are going to delay it, you would think at most it would be pushed back 2-3 weeks. But we don't have a date at all, suggesting that it likely is not going to be released anywhere near that timeframe. And at any rate, we have already been told the reason for the delay on Wii U was due to a prioritizing of the other system versions for release. Unless you think that is a lie, it means the Wii U version is not a priority and is likely to be pushed to a much later date if released at all.

If the game does end up being released on Wii U in like mid-June, I may believe the Mario Kart excuse. Otherwise, no way.

I don't think you remember what last gen looked like. The game looks super crisp and the textures (on the people especially) look great. For an open world game it's looking nice.

If you consider this "bad graphics" I think you're going to be disappointed a lot this gen.

Skyrim modded a little looks a lot better than what is shown here. Assassin's Creed 4 PC looks a lot better than what is shown here. Battlefield 4 looks a shitton better than what is shown here. GTA V on last-gen consoles looks slightly better than what is shown here.

I remember the Watch Dogs E3 footage was being heralded as "photorealistic" and unless I am completely amnesic, it looked a lot better back then...

Graphically it doesn't seem to be doing anything special. I'm hyped again though. Story is seems better than I thought it would be.

The E3 demo with him walking up State street into the Chicago theater was all smoke and mirrors, apparently.

But it isn't. It flows really well into the gameplay.

Basic environmental actions are hotkeyed so all you need to do is look at what you need and push square to activate it.

More complex universal hacks can be done by layering.

It flowed well, and didn't seem intrusive to the actual game.

Omg, the graphics aren't the most impressive ones we've seen on next-gen? It's almost as if... this is a cross-gen game or something?!

People need to calm down. It irks me that many gamers complain about bloated budgets and the state of the AAA industry, yet turn a blind eye to all this extreme graphical scrutiny that goes on among hardcore gamers for games (that aren't even built to take full advantage of new hardware). How do you think AAA games got so big and focused on "cinematic" immersion in the first place? Jesus.

Graphics look like next gen but also sort of crappy at the same time.

Please tell me that the PC version looks better than this.

In this case, it's Ubisoft's own damn fault when they create a bullshit trailer for E3 that is not even close to indicative of the real version.

Thank you Jarmel.

That trailer in the OP might not even be next gen footage, I personally doubt it is.

Looks like something I would want to play but apart from Ryse, Infamous and Killzone I have been pretty underwhelmed by the visuals of a lot of games so far on these new boxes, why exactly are we upgrading again ?

There is a clear downgrade here, disappointing Ubisoft

And remember, 30fps!

Might be the art direction and locale, but AC4 looked way better than this... isn't this on some fancy smancy new next gen engine too?

Gonna be interesting if the original leaked pc specs are true.
