Dark Souls II PC |OT| Give us smooth, Give us silky

Wait, the game doesn't run if you have a dual monitor setup?

No, this is a fix only if you:encounter the crash at start-up. It has been working fine for a lot of people. If you have the issue and only one monitor, hopefully a straight cable switch will work.

Also, had an issue with audio so tried the same trick with an extended monitor setup and then switching back to the TV. Seemed to fix it.

Since it has been asked a few times, I'll try to explain everything how it should theoretically work. Haven't tested it myself but there are reports of it working.

Use your Dualshock 4 on PC for Dark Souls 2
1. Download and install the official Xbox360 controller drivers from Microsoft found here.
2. Get the latest XInput wrapper for DS4 from here. Latest so far is version 1.2.2 but there might be a version 1.3 around. I am using 1.2.2
3. Follow instructions on how to install the Wrapper found in the ReadMe file.
4. Make sure to connect or pair (BT) your DS4 controller correctly.
5. Close all programs that might use the XBox360 controller and disconnect all other controllers.
6. Start the DS4 wrapper and make sure to check the "hide DS4 controller" option. You can check when clicking on "controllers" that only the XBox360 controller is listed. Otherwise you have another controller (DS4 direct input) connected which interferse with your input.
7. Start Steam, Dark Souls 2 and enjoy.
Yep, this is what you gotta do. Link to this post in the OT Nito!

I really should invest in a decent pair of Headphones (not a Headset) for my PC but such accessory is so expensive in here. And now that Amazon no longer provides me with Free Super Saver delivery (Free shipping) my options are even more limited.

A game like this could really benefit a proper sound setup for those late gaming sessions at night.

the latter sounds really fulfilling compared to the first thing

What, doing the responsible thing and then playing, or just powering through tonight after I get back from this bar?

Because I want to play this on PC. It's just so much nicer. The community...

Be completely honest with no hyperbole. I love my Xbox 360 controller for PC. Is the DS4 really that much better or should I just stick with my wireless X360 setup?

Someone using a VPN (presumably) tried to summon me, who's also using a VPN.

Needless to say, I was sat on a loading screen for about 5 minutes before I force quit the game.

Ended up spending about 30-40 minutes setting up the game and creating my character, with another 30 minutes of actually playing the game.

That intro.

My first WAT moment: So I saw a
coffin by two trolls/ogres on a beach and decided to get inside it because I thought it would take me to a new area or something. I got a message about my nature changing or something, making me think I either unlocked super-hard mode or fucked myself over for later in the game. One troll obliterates me as I get out, and my female character's death cries...sound male and guttural. It turned me into a man!

People say you move slower compared to DS1, but it feels fast and jittery to me. I keep instinctively tapping B to jump, as well.

It's a smooth 60 FPS at 2x multisampling, so I'll probably boost it up to 4x and work on getting SweetFX in there. The only graphical anomaly I saw was that the water by the aforementioned beach was split by white lines in certain points.

I was surprised by how dark the game was. Took me a while to realize that my torch wasn't an inventory item.

Quick question about DS4 Xinput wrapper you are using, Grief. You linked to a version 1.3 prior in this thread. When I am searching on the official forum post here I only find 1.2.2 as the latest version. Where did you get yours from?

It is the beta that I found in the creator's signature. The only reason I even found it was just browsing through the thread as it is not in the OP, potentially by design.

But I tested the 1.3 beta in Fez and it worked perfectly.

Yes! Monk please get a proper pair of headphones and not a garbage headset!

There are some cheap examples from Superlux 668, AKG K240, and Audio Technica AD700 that are cheap and provide some great audio!

So i got errors when starting up the game. And i suddenly remembered that this happened to Dark Souls too. So what is the fix? Connect your monitor to HDMI. Now it works.
It was connected to DVI-D.

Sigh.

If you love it, why would you not use it?

I prefer Dual Shocks (3 or 4) over the 360 pad for Dark Souls because the bumpers are primary buttons and they just aren't good buttons in terms of location or feel.

So after reading here, that the game crashes, if your TV is connected via HDMI, I tried it myself and it is true. I can't start the game on my TV, but with my monitor (Displayport) it runs flawlessly.

Any solution?

Problems with my rig? I am not the only one posting them.

I also AM trying to show the screenshots, but Steam is being an asshole and not letting them upload.

(Correct, high detail)

DoF is off, on my rig. Not on. Turned it off first thing.

A few steps back

+1 for the K240's, the one time payment of ~$100 will last much longer than however much you will pay for the multiple replacements of cheaper headphones. They're my choice for gaming and music on my desktop. If you have the option as well, this along with a usb DAC will be all you need for a genuinely fantastic audio experience.

Oh boy.. reading the PC Gamer article.. this is incredible. Thank you Durante.

Not really confident my 7970 GHz will be able to pull off these bells and whistles and still downsample a bit to 1080p. Dat sick DoF. Hope so.

I have a Tritton Headset for consoles purposes which are nothing special but I was looking for something decent for PC indeed.

Regarding one of those brands, you mentioned, AKG, can you see any decent models in this page here ? Thanks in advance, sorry for the off topic guys.

Can you not do leap attacks in this game? Forward + heavy attack isn't working for me. Is it broken with kb/m?
