AFL (Aussie Rules) 2014 |OT| Haven't you Hird? Bomber's back!

The Collingwood North game feels like it could go either way. I'm still not comfortable with my pick. Not sure how good each side really is so it's hard to make a confident decision. I think North could win but you never know which North will show up.

Edit: Big win by Sydney. Didn't give them much chance.

Edit 2: I actually tried this week with my tips now it looks like Saints and West Coast could snatch a win making me 1/5. The funny thing is without the tip screw up in round 1 I'd be 4 tips worse off... Having the worst year.

Edit 3: Some really awful footy from the Dons. Great win by the Saints, they clearly wanted it more.

After seeing the Bombers play tonight, I'm feeling better about our chances next Friday. It's also hard to get a read on how good we are when we beat Kangas. Who knows if they are actually any good or not.

Port were pretty awful tonight, and we still won! So many fumbles, errors and especially errant kicks.

Also, lol Essendon.

Might have been the first time I haven't tipped the Saints. And we win.

WE WIN.

How'd you guys pick Carlton?
I know the Bulldogs aren't that great either but going by Carlton's recent woeful form it looked like a loss.

I expected Carlton to turn it around eventually. Seemed like the opportune week with the inclusion of Judd (which turned out to be a mistake in hindsight).

Promising signs but I thought Geelong have looked well off their best. A lot of uncharacteristic mistakes like I saw in the opening to the West Coast game too. I haven't seen a lot of footy this year, only about 2-3 quarters of footy, so not sure if we've been playing this way all year.
I expected our rucks to be a big deciding factor to whether we could challenge and so far we're comfortablly in front in that area.

Geez, some pretty awful footy being played at times from both sides. Umpiring has been pretty shit too.

Both of you had a pretty good round. Good work jambo.

When my best is 5 you know I'm struggling. I'm 7 behind in my home comp, the comp I normally lead year after year.

I'm actually enjoying this year though given we have a lot more people in it, makes things a lot more interesting.

Round 6 Teams

A few weeks ago I thought the Pies would have no chance today. But now I think we should be favourites. Form doesn't normally matter with this game but we have the form and I think we should win. Come on boys!

Yeah, it's funny how quickly opinions for both teams changed.

The Pies have improved with each games but it's more the Bombers coming out of the blocks early and then coming back to the pack.

I'm under no illusions of where Collingwood are at this year, but we definitely can win this game.

Freo smashed us in the first round, what happened to them?

Happy with the win today obviously but boy the first quarter was disgusting. I was speechless. Bombers looked on and we looked cold. Glad it changed after quarter time but still a worry.

Swannie huge today. I'm a happy boy.

I can only listen but not a lot to like so far. Could end up being a hammering from Port. I knew Port had every chance to win but sounds like they're completely outplaying us.

Port absolutely romped it in even with players like the Hoff, Schulz and Chad (until the last quarter) having relatively quiet games. Great signs.

From what I seen earlier in the year they're pretty scary when they're in full flight.

They've had a huge ride to the top. They didn't even make the finals last year, was it bottom 4 or were they bottom 4 the year before?

I don't know if they'll be able to keep it up all year but maybe they will

What? They beat Collingwood last year in the first week of the finals, and technically finished 5th. Best thing about them being on top is that they play an attractive brand of footy to go along with their winning. Wish we had the cattle/skills/fitness to play like that.

Seeing them kick on has retroactively made me feel better about our first round loss to them. The complete opposite is true for Richmond.

I'm kinda glad I'm living abroad at the moment. My mob's been terrible. :\

Wow, they made the finals? I don't even remember

Didn't they sack Primus at the end of last year?
Am I a year behind?

You may be a year behind, I think Hinkley has been there for the 2 (not sure if longer). Last year Port played and lost against Geelong in the Semi.

Yep, you're right Andiie. Hinkley took over Port, the same time Malthouse did the Blues (the end of 2012). We beat them by a single point to secure 9th last year. Been interesting to see the trajectory of both clubs since the change of coach. Might not have garnered the attention of fans of the upper echelon of teams last season, but are definitely doing so now.

Port recent history is:

2011: Primus' first full season. Narrowly avoided bottom place (which would've put us below Gold Coast in their first season) with a last round win. Ended up 16th (second bottom) with 3 wins, and losses included giving Gold Coast their first ever win after being 40pts up at 3 quarter time, and consecutive losses of 138 and 165 points vs Collingwood and Hawthorn.

2012: 14th with 5 wins and a draw. Became the first non Gold Coast team to lose to GWS, and Primus was sacked on the spot. Our president at the time also quit. John McCarthy died during an end of season trip.

Between 2012 and 2013, Hinkley was appointed prior to a trial game in London against the bulldogs, which we won. Koch became president, fitness coach Burgess returned to club.

2013: Hinkley's first season. 5th, beat Collingwood in the Elimination final, knocked out by Geelong in the semis. 12 home & away wins for a 7th place finish (after Essendon were knocked out).

2014: AFL premiers.

I would be ok with this.
