First reaction: HYPE!

Second reaction: Uh, not so hype at all.
  • "Pre-order now and get some shit you'd otherwise have to pay for!"
  • Crossgen... duh. Downgrade confirmed before fake trailer
  • *remembers FC3 E3 trailer and retail*

They'll also ignore blatantly obvious symbolism.

Look in the mirror and repeat the question.

Are you guys kidding me?

You're insane.

He's right though. There's a white, blonde rich-looking western man who's toying with the life of an Asian man, clearly deemed inferior from their postures. Obviously we'll need to see some of the game to understand motivations, context etc, but just from that box art there's an obvious racial dynamic involved.

"using a vast array of animals" made me chuckle.

Interested. I quit fc3 halfway through but parts of it I really liked.

I lost interest in FC3 pretty fast. It was decently fun, but it just didn't hold my attention well. Will have to see if FC4 interests me.

Don't worry! You, the player -- an 18-34 white male -- will ride in to save the day.

Video games.

I'm sure he will be the villain and the "hero" will be as interesting as a loaf of bread. I want to play as the villain! He seems cool. And powerful.

Anyway, I certainly hope they tried their best to change up the game mechanics. I will always prefer Far Cry 2 to Far Cry 3, but I'm at the very least glad that there's quite a gap between them in terms of gameplay direction, rather than being the same thing with a new coat of paint (which Far Cry 2 doesn't really need, though its mechanics might need refinement.) I'm disappointed that they ditched a lot of Far Cry 2's good aspects, but I will not criticise them for exploring new directions – unless they change things with the intention of appealing to mainstream gamers and thus for cynical, money-making reasons, à la Crysis 2 and 3.

They also said at least 1 or 2 years ago that the cross-gen transition will last till 2015.

No way this game will be 60FPS on consoles.

If it's cross-gen and they don't up the quality of the assets big time (or add a whole buch of AA and stuff like that), I don't see why it wouldn't be possible. I'm not saying that it WILL be 60FPS, but I'm quite certain it is achievable at the very least. The fact that it is open world doesn't mean shit now that the new systems have RAM enough to support it easily. No GTAV magic coding needed here, and for now I'm pretty sure Watch_Dogs is an exception rather than the definition of what next-gen open world is capable of with it being 900p and stuff.

Although, since it is an open world game, IQ will probably have priority over FPS. If they have to choose it wil be 30FPS no doubt. So yeah, the chance may be bigger that 60FPS won't happen, but I wouldn't rule it out either.

Anybody complaining about cross gen needs to look at AC4's 11 million sales. Any company that looked at that and didn't sit up and pay attention would be a silly company.

"Write their own story" lol.

I'd rather they just have gotten someone decent to write the story, one that doesn't cast you as a total dickbag and can actually structure a good story.

Yeah, same here. Just sitting here, chilling, waiting for people to talk about the game. ;)

It'll be as enjoyable and fun as the third game, I just hope the story is more interesting and the gameplay loop not as transparent. After freeing the (what felt like)100th. tiger I got kinda bored but still played through the game, But, mountains! Cool cool cool.

One should look at how the dunia engine performed on a 7850 (PS4) and 7770 (Xbo) to get a rough idea how this game will look and run on PS4 or Xbox One.

60 FPS is out of the question imo unless they decide to go with low settings and a low resolution

Cross-Gen?......

How long before studios start developing games current-gen and THEN downgrade/port into last-gen (360/PS3)

For the love of God just lock it at 30fps.

Couldn't play FC3 on 360 because of the atrocious framerate and sttutering.
Locking it to 30fps would not have done anything for the 360 version since it stayed under 30fps anyways.
So cross gen means port, correct, this wasn't built from ground up for next gen.
Yep, I am not too hyped for this anymore.

Far Cry 3 performed really well under i5 3570 stock and a HD 7850 on PC, so the game should be 60fps if the scale is the same, but this is Ubisoft we are talking about. They wouldn't know good performance if it hit their profit margins.

And as we all know, Ram is the only thing that matters.

So with the limited edition, we get a villain who is not racist or a defiler of the local culture?

I imagine the game will have a satirical edge to the whole white man saves the world dynamic. However, after FC3 I'm not sure the writer really understands the concept of satire entirely and if a similar angle is made in this game, it could get really messy.

Why is everyone announcing the "surprise" games that were supposed to be announced at E3?

Does the publishers know about something that will get all the attention at E3?

Call me crazy, insult me, whatever -- but the ONLY reason I don't ever plan on buying Far Cry 4 is that it's a 'cross-gen' game, meaning that it wasn't built from the ground up to utilize the full power and potential of the PlayStation 4 and/or Xbox One.

What a shame. :(

Definitely doesn't make things up as he goes along.

he's not white, or western. Nor is he a natural blonde.

hmm interesting. I played the game when it launched with a 7970 and the performance was all over the place...but my CPU (1055t) was complete shit, so maybe it was to blame
or maybe the performance got better after with patches and better drivers

What about the gameplay and design itself?

Gameplay is usually dependent upon the world, the A.I., etc. So if the world is smaller than it could be if "current gen" only / PC, and it has less enemies, and the enemies are not as smart as they could have been, then yes, the gameplay will have to be altered.

Not saying the gameplay would be BETTER if it was current gen only, no real way to know that.

Just a bit disappointed to see a cross gen game releasing a year into the new consoles life cycle. I bought my new game systems to play games only possibly on them and PC, not to play prettier versions of last-gen games.

dammit cross gen has GOT to die. UBI pls.

I'm sure it will be fun but I don't expect it to look any different than FC3 (which isn't ugly by any means but it ain't gonna be able to hang with other open world games like Witcher and Dragon Age)
