Drakengard 3 |OT| This Silence Is Mine

I wonder what happens if Platinum games made Drakengard 3 instead.

I can dream right?

Don't do this, it will only make it more painful.

And my download is finally done, so now I get to see this for myself.

For once, I don't think it would be as memorable with them involved.

I don't think he's talking about changing the writing. And while Platinum games have their flaws, but being unmemorable isn't one of them.

I think there's a certain low-budget charm to Cavia's games which Platinum's over-the-top shiny style wouldn't fit well with.

Really enjoying it so far. Just got to the forest, and I've been taking every sidequest as it opens up. Gameplay's easily the best in the series, between weapon switching, air pursuit, countering, dashing, lock-on (which is really nice after playing some Nier a few days ago), and Intoner mode. Running around killing enemies never feels dull. The performance doesn't really bother me either. I'm too into it to really notice maybe? Waaay better than I expected after all of those negative JP impressions.

Probably because Platinum never know how to write actual plot.

But eh, I'll be playing it anyways. Even with the fact that I followed leta.jp live when the original Japanese release came out.

I sure do hope SE release all the DLC episodes in bulk, I don't want to buy them one by one.

Also, for people who tried both the disc and the digital version, how's the improvement of load time for the digital version? The disc version had really long load times and that's a bummer.

I know that I'm probably going digital because I didn't preorder this game, but I still would like to know.

HA. I like Deadly Premonition, so take that! That just means I have even more confidence in this!

Still waiting to experience the jank myself.

Just beat chapter 1.

This game looks like an HD PS2 game at best, and at some points an HD PS1 game. And the dragon riding parts are terrible.. holy moses.

But it's pretty fun.

On-ground combat is fast and bloody. And there's loot to be gained from exploring a bit, which is always a plus in my book.

Best part is definitely the story. Makes you wanna know what happens next. Very random sense of humor, reminds me of Suda 51.

It's a hot mess of a game, and it's just what I was expecting.

The story is pretty bonkers, lol.

Like halfwayish through Chapter 2...
-avalanche occurs- Drakengard 3... END. "I'm the one who decides when this ends!"

Question about the weapons. Is there an ideal sword/spear/etc. that I should upgrade first or are they all basically the same?

Also is anybody else noticing input lag or is it just me? There might be something up with my controller.

Hm! I never really had any gripes with Nier's combat. I thought all the magic stuff made it a lot of fun. I'm starting to get a bit used to D3's combat though, and it's not half bad, all things considered.

I like it so far. Music is amazing, English voice acting is good, performance is not as bad as I was expecting after reading this thread lol. I've played some PS2 games recently that look and run significantly worse than this game so I'm not quite seeing the PS2 comparisons myself. Screen tearing is distracting at times but it's not bad enough to make me want to turn the game off and ship it back to amazon or anything. I can already tell I'll enjoy the humor and story a lot, this game is a breath of fresh air that I needed honestly.

Pretty much sums up my thoughts as well. And the frame drops, ugh.

Technically speaking neither do the writers of this game. I just watched the first two chapters and literally every line of dialogue was cringeworthy.

For the people who played the Japanese version, how extensive is the DLC missions? See a ton of trophies for them, seemingly one for each sister.

Having finished the first chapter, people weren't kidding about the technical problems. The frame rate is garbage, the loading times are long (digital version!), and especially jarring mid-level, and there is plenty of screen tearing. The combat is simplistic and easy right now, and the dragon riding segments/slideshows I'd call outright bad.

But the plot intrigues me enough, and the humor is good. I just wish I didn't have to ride that dragon ever again.

LOL! You're really going to enjoy a certain indoor boss fight. I really hope you have some serious patience.

The favourite dragon/design thread over in OT reminded me of one of the greatest dragon designs of all time, so let's just take a moment to bask in its gloriousness
while I wait for my game to be downloadable

Since I spent the entire night downloading the ridonkulously huge ass 10GB Japanese VO pack and installing it, I had a chance to read through most of the surprisingly entertaining prequel novella.

If the story and dialogue is anything as awesomely stupid/weird/fetishisized as the novel.....this game is going to be epic xD.

where can I read it? or did it come with the CE?

Hah, I had the game get stuck on a mid-level load for over a minute. I thought the game had locked-up.

Chapter 2 Verse 5 is almost unbearable with it's constant hitching and stuttering. It certainly doesn't help when there's platforming segments and the game is dropping into single digit framerates.

I'm still enjoying it, mostly for the humor right now. But the reports of this being a technical disaster were not lies. Come in with the right expectations and I think you might still like it. That said, I've only finished the first two chapters.

Really not sure about getting this one, and definitely not at full price.
Liked NIER, couldn't get into Drakengard 1 (and I really tried to !), and barely played 2.

Maybe for 10$.

looks like UK orders did dispatch sometime last night, on DPDs next day service with tracking. So I should get my copy today after all.

better than godhand confirmed
Mine's arrived.

Us Europeans have 25GB to download...
This feels like trolling by Square-Enix Europe, you would think after EU fans asking for a physical disc they would've tried but we get this tease =I. Inside is a selection soundtrack CD, gamecode and soundtrack list that doubles as an ad for the full OST =/

Has anyone else ordered the US version from PlayAsia? Just wondering because in my order details it says the game will be shipped on May 28th, but I thought the Square Enix store had exclusivity for one month. Has something changed?

So the pre-order version is still up on the EU PSN store.

Look at the date when I'll be charged for it. (I just bought this a few minutes ago - decided to try my luck for the free JP voice pack)

And when I go to my download list, it says "Purchased on 22.05.2014"

Some mess up haha. Not complaining though.

It is certainly a piss take and a new low for Square, seemingly they could bothered to produce an audio CD but the disk that actually matters- nah, that's clearly asking too much... Since I didn't want to support that kinda shit I chose to import instead. Hopefully it'll turn up soon, I'm eager to start playing it.

Never really played the first 2 games. Plus, I don't know why, but this screams budget title to me. Also I loathe screen tearing. Just makes my eyes bleed. I'd rather not play a game with much of it.

I also read single digit FPS? That is unacceptable.

Dude.. This is ofc low budget. Like the other Drakengard games and Nier.

The voice pack is 10GB!!!!!! Well at least the ps3 bandwidth seems to be good today only 30 minutes till it's done downloading.....guess I should be thankful lol

Do they replace all the game assets or something? lmao

My Amazon order is rattling around. The disc is loose from the spindle. I haven't opened it yet, so I'm going to return it. I assume it's all scratched up in there.
