need comparison pics.

( i mean i need to see with/without 2012-effects, not very familiar with the way those areas look in the game on PC)

I was very unimpressed with this game but these new shots are pretty darn awesome. What are the odds that they planned to implement these features at some point in the future?

The reimplemented stuff is neither here nor there for me, really, as has been said multiple times they were probably cut due to QA.

What chaps my ass, and I said as much in my post, is that he fixed the stuttering issues inherent and improved general performance. Now that? That's inex-fucking-cusable, no matter how anyone tries to spin it.
I was also talking about said fixes, they could have unintended behaviours that due to the game being released on 4(?) SKUs did not let them ship on release.

Already some people are reporting some crash issues.

They practically did that trickery with AC IV for PS4 with a day 1 patch once the rabbit was out of the hat and making noise.
Oh I wasn't aware of that. That doesn't seem very legal but it may just be borderline... at best it's anti-consumer :/

Do you think it could be MS and / or Sony who are asking for this or is it just Ubi who want to sell more console copies since it's the most expensive version?

Anecdotal, but I haven't had the game crash on me once, and that includes the known billboard hacking issue. (Though, I don't hack those often.)

Wish I hadn't already beaten the game already :\ Have to replay it sometime with this mod.

That's sort of the beauty of PC gaming for me, replaying a game later on with improved graphics/framerate (if I've upgraded my hardware in between). Breathes new life into a lot of games.

Good show Ubisoft. You basically had an optimized PC version up and running and decided to gimp it last second not to make the PS4/XBO-versions look crappy?

Incredible. How does this happen?

I think there is no "conspiracy" at heart, it's just about prioritizing. Probably they hit some issues with these effects and optimizing the console versions in time for the release had better priority. Probably they are/were also planning already a patch for PC. What's stupid about this is the way Ubisoft communicates. But it doesn't seem to influence the sales, so they will keep on doing it.

There's no way my PC could handle this game, but I really hope he gets those original explosion effects back in as well. That gas station explosion was glorious; so sad that they pulled it out. I'll just have to admire the videos/gifs/webms from those with more capable rigs... sigh...

This Worse fellow needs to be locked in a room with Dark Souls 2 for a while.

I'm very curious to see what Ubi has to say about this. I can't see them having planned to create a "definitve edition" ala Tomb Raider, considering the game's already out on the new systems.

The idea that this stuff was removed simply to maintain parity across platforms irks me to no end.

The PC version dropped down the Steam charts pretty fast. Wolfenstein is outselling it at this point. No way to know how many preordered it but word has gotten out that the PC port is janky and bad, aka typical Ubisoft.

They should patch whatever they can and make it the best version possible.

That explanation flies out the window when one dude in his spare time got around to fixing the stuttering issues plaguing the game since launch, reimplemented all this shit, AND improved general performance.

If Ubisoft expects PC gamers to buy their $60 products, and I'm sorry but shit guys holy fuck, then they should be assed to give even half a fuck and fix the performance problems before a customer upset with what he bought has to reverse engineer the game and do it himself.

Has it been 100% confirmed all the graphical effects mentioned in the OP have been modded on, AND performance had improved?

Holy shit, I'm at my work so I can't look into this in detail but HOLY SHIT UBISOFT HOLY SHIT. I would love if someone could confirm if

- Ultra textures work well with a 2GB card (I have a GTX 770 2GB)
- if stuttering is reduced or completely removed

Also, is this "patch" still under construction or is this the final version?

Lets be honest anyone who know swhat they are doing would have bought the game on Uplay in the first place

It's still being worked on. It's currently on version 0.6, and 0.7 will be the one with a lot of fixes. Farther back depth of field, 3 camera angles to choose from while on foot (near, normal, far), fixed headlight shadows, performance fixes, etc. The current version still stutters with Ultra textures on my 2GB 670. High is pretty stable.

And I just noticed Maldo is on the case, as well. Hot damn, this thing might stand a chance of being playable.

50,000 concurrent at launch is respectable, and I would expect similar numbers for the Uplay only version.

The game does look fairly mediocre and port quality issues, while Wolfenstein has some great word of mouth surrounding it.

Lets be honest anyone who know swhat they are doing would have bought the game on Uplay in the first place

Why do you say that?

I would argue that anyone who knows what they are doing didn't buy the game at all, but I'm still curious to hear your reasoning.

Very much under construction, and the stuttering issues sound like they're down to the weird textures implementation.

I believe that's one of the main things being addressed.

SMH, why PC people getting angry at consoles for? It's not Sony's or Ubisoft's fault that even high end graphic carts come only with 3GB GDDR5 when even $400 PS4 comes with 8GB GDDR5. If PC gamers were willing to pay for more GDDR5 then maybe Ubisoft wouldn't have to remove effects.

messed around with this a little. looks a lot better, and seems to run better too. still can't run high or ultra textures on my 2gb GTX 680 though, but everything else is set to ultra.

The game uses a very surreal texture implementation. For every texture, there is a basic texture with mipmaps and a higher resolution texture without mipmaps. Lower texture quality uses the medium mip of the regular texture as max. Medium texture quality uses the regular texture and high texture quality (called ultra ingame) uses regular texture BUT blend to higher texture for close ups. Close up distance depends of screen resolution. So it's a pixel/texel ratio in the end.

The problem is that I think gpu drivers are not optimized to load in memory every texture twice. They are optimized to mess with mipmaps to avoid shimmering and to save memory. Walking or driving in watch dogs implies you need to load a new big texture every time a material is near the camera. It's not the same that showing the big mip of the texture already loaded.

In one hand, using tweaks as always loading the big mip, can fix stuttering. But you will have shimmering here and there. I'm testing now with using ultra textures with or without mips as medium textures. So the game don't mess with double number of files, with good results.

Is this implemented in the patch that OP is referring to or is this a doing of your wizardry?

I'm pretty sure a large percentage of steam users would rather have the convenience of owning the steam version over getting a costume pack for buying it on uplay.

Goddamn, all that hard work to be locked away.

It's just silly. What could the reasons be other than unoptimized or they don't want the console versions to look so much worse? Are they incomplete in some way?

I think you're getting RAM, and dedicated graphics RAM mixed up? The PS4 doesnt have 8GB dedicated graphics RAM.

Sweet stuff. I'll wait for the 0.7 release then.

A lot of jumping to conclusions here. As a programmer myself, I'm willing to bet that these effects are not in there because there are some bugs in specific circumstances that trigger full-blown crashes, and they weren't going to have time to get them working properly, so they just got pulled while they focused on other things.

This would be acceptable if they actually stuck with their original deadline,
But delaying and under-delivering from the time the game as first shown? Absolutely unacceptable IMO.

He's referencing one of the Ubisoft reps saying that PC gamers should just go buy more powerful hardware if they think the PC releases don't run well. I'm paraphrasing.

Guessing they're features built into the engine for future games, maybe? It does seem silly to leave something like headlight shadows off when they're right there, especially if one guy was able to fix them in a matter of hours.

Haha, nice one. Needs a mod, though. 8/10

I do love a bit of tasteful DOF, but some of these shots are blurry to the point that either the main character or the cameraman needs to get to an opticians and get some prescription lenses asap. People standing on the other side of the road shouldn't be blurry unless you're doing an open-world game based in Glasgow, and the main character is permanently hammered.
