Watch_Dogs original graphical effects (E3 2012/13) found in game files [PC]

Can the console parity conspiracy be true?

It wouldn't surprise me. I suspect FromSoftware took a similar standpoint with Dark Souls II — even if it was gameplay effecting to some degree.
And honestly? We'll probably see a lot more of this going on. When a big selling point for consoles, particularly post-launch, are the improved graphics, publishers wouldn't want the vocal minority of the PC crowd bragging that they're able to get effects that aren't possible on the XB1/PS4. It makes the expensive consoles look meagre in comparison, even if the effects are only possible on PCs that typically cost more than a console.

Then again that's ignoring already existing perks that have been around forever, like higher resolutions and frame rates.

I knew it was completely changed from the 2012 version, not just dialed back. All of the lights in the game right now have this janky appearance I can't quite put my finger on. None of that is in any of these screens. It looks like the game it should have been. The game we all drooled over in 2012, before Ubi pulled the rug out.

Fuck this company

Here are a few videos with the new settings..

Everything at Ultra (including textures) on a GTX 690 (sli disabled so basically a 680 2GB card, that's right....2gb with ULTRA textures) 1920x1080 res with TXAA 2 capped at 30fps using NVCP...

Now it does dip below 30 using Ultra textures but I can say for sure right now that if they manage to fix SLI on this game the 690 would handle this game with 30+ fps using Ultra textures for sure using these tweaks.

What this MOD/patch proves is that this game does NOT need 2gb+ VRAM for ultra textures and I hope UBI are rectifying that with an official patch.

The stuttering is gone for me, especially when using high textures, its non existent now (with SLI disabled)

The rain hitting Aiden with that white coat looks unnatural. I wonder if that is part of the reason they cut the lighting in the final build.

GTX 660 2gb, 2500k @ 4.5ghz. Pre-patch i had an inconsistent framerate at lower settings and i also had bad stuttering. After theworsemod, i can put everything on high, except textures, and my frames are consistent AND the stuttering is gone. Jesus christ ubisoft, youre trash. Happy i didn't play through this game before someone fixed it.

That's great news. No idea what's happened at ubi

It is on my rig: gtx 670/3570k/16gb ram, barely around 30-40fps in high/ultra. One of Ubi people on twitter said pc version sold 1m copies of FC3 and a press release before that had FC3 total sales at 6m. It's no secret AAA games sell a multitude more on consoles.

4.5 million, actually(took me ~10secs to google this).

Q: Far Cry 3: Mix between consoles and PCs?
A: 1mil units on PC, 3.5mil on console.

Those are arifacts caused from headlight shadows I think you're seeing. It's supposedly been fixed in the upcoming release of this mod, v0.7

Thanks for posting, I really didn't expect it to be that good. DoF will probably need a bit of adjusting but.. wow

I reckon this is cool, because I thought the graphics already looked good. Can't wait to do this tomorrow.

I love PC gaming.

Rain, night, dusk, dawn scenes are easy.

Post some daylight scenes. That's the real test.

There's almost no visible difference during daylight. (Apart from the forced DOF)

But gotta give props for the effort, it certainly helps overall. Gone from bland crap to quite nice in some settings.

I agree with the hidden 'fuck this company' quote though. Trials Fusion is even worse. It looks like a mobile game and in the mid to later levels runs at stop motion frame rates.

I bought Fusion on PS4 because Evolution was a horrendous PC port. I think it was the last Ubisoft game I bought for PC.

Ubisoft, you fucks.

Still, as someone who only rarely buys their games I must admit that they put on a pretty entertaining show. I'm expecting a statement citing stability problems and/or artistic decisions by the end of the day.

Stuttering is fixed.

It would have taken Ubisoft 9 months themselves to make a half assed fix. And we are all to blame, we buy these games.

So not only does the game look better by comparison, it also runs better than the vanilla retail version?

That is a new level of buttfumbling by Ubisoft. Gonna be interesting to see what their PR spun bullshit response will be if we're given any at all.

so does this mod still allow you to play online or must i have uplay/steam in offline mode first?

will dabble in this after work.

You can play online. Unfortunately, I saw someone on Guru3D say you can change stats used in online mode and cheat with the method TheWorse is using to edit files. I wouldn't be surprised if online goes to shit soon.

Yeah, installed the mod and saw the artifacting with the headlights against a wall. Didn't notice any "stuttering" improvements, although the game never stuttered on me in the first place.

The DOF is a bit much there, it's clear why it was removed.

It wasn't removed. My understanding is that it's employed here by the modder as a way to mask texture shimmering problems created by the mod's changes to the texture streaming method.

If I understand MaLDo correctly, it's his opinion that the stuttering in the retail build is likely caused by the game's requirement to load textures into memory twice. Something that no PC GPU driver is optimised for. It's a very odd choice by the developers.

So just tried the patch myself and I have to agree the performance seems to have gotten better just to check it's not a placebo to use the mod just dropping the files into the right folder is enough isn't it?

although has the driving physics gotten worse? I was driving around on a bike and it kept randomly driving to the left :S not my controller already checked that

The 2012 implementation was just basically during the focus mode bits. It was removed for no real reason.

Have you tried it? That's not how the actual focusing works in this implementation, it basically makes it unplayable on any mission that requires you to stalk someone from a distance. The irony would be all the people shitting on this DOF if it were in the game to begin with.

The DOF is too strong and it adapts too slow/awkward.

The shadow from car headlights are bugged.

I can see why they couldn't release the game like that but you can't tell me they couldn't have fixed it if they cared.

Yes I've tried it, but the guy I was replying to seemed to imply that that how it was like in 2012, which it wasn't.

Disappointing Ubi couldn't be assed to fix this.

Or maybe they were worried that the PC version could look too good........

The DOF is all over the place, sometimes it's like 5 feet in front of you. A little more work though, and this might be really cool.

all part of ubisoft's plan for the best version; hacking the game in real life to make the game run better. props to them, this is truly next gen gaming.

well that doesnt look that bad for PC if you count consoles separately t have proper comparision (aka for 2 platforms is easier to sell more than one platform) - expected quite bigger difference, while seing all those claims that consoles sells majority and PC almost nothing
