I'm going to puke if I read one more thing about how people think the loss of Gionta's and Gorge's "leadership" is going to hurt the Habs this year. Enjoy doing your rah rah bullshit in Buffalo, Josh.

Edit:

Will the departure of Brian Gionta help the Canadiens in the long run?
Yes: 53.33%
No: 46.67%

so it's official now

Tim Leiweke, the president and CEO of Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment, will leave his role next June, or “until a successor is appointed,” MLSE said in a statement.

“Mr. Leiweke plans to pursue his goal of owning and operating his own business following his departure from MLSE,” it said.

Just another example of frivolous, arbitrary spending by so-called fiscal conservatives. Thanks, Harper.

Hang on, I'm calling my MP in a tizzy right now to complain about this pork barrel bullshit spending.

Wait, who the fuck is my MP? Pat Martin? Damn I doubt he can help me.

Plus I get a small promotion with more responsibility and a slight pay increase.

I for one welcome our new conservative big spending overlord.

Buffalo or Edmonton fan?

Buffalo.

They should have done this years ago.

At least you're still guaranteed Eichel.

We're not guaranteed shit at this point. We're not even guaranteed they're going to finish 30th.

I just hate that we finally decide to take the tank-for-picks strategy which worked for other teams in the past and they find a way to mess it up.

I don't think it's targeted at Buffalo to fuck us. But it's just our luck it would come down now.

Don't deliberately try to be a shitty team and you don't place your fate in the hands of others. Blame management, not the NHL.

Besides, you'll still get an awesome pick and still have very good odds. Complaining now seems ridiculous to me. I actually thought you were kidding before.

I don't want the team to deliberately suck. I've been actively rooting against that since the start of The Great Buffalo Roster Breakdown in 2007. But the team was managed into a hole in the ground and there's really no other option left for the new management to rebuild in a way that won't take 10+ years. I did blame that management group for that. I was calling for Darcy Regier's head for years. Many of us in Buffalo were. And we finally got what we want, but the team he left behind was a decaying carcass of a team that even at its best was several pieces away from good enough to get to the Cup Finals (which they didn't).

The one good thing Darcy left us was a bushel of draft picks. And I know this team is likely going to be looking up based on how many players we have drafted and we''ll be drafting over the next few seasons. We've been in need of a blood transfusion for like half a decade. But excuse me for being upset that the second we have a clear shot at a generational talent (something we've had once ever in Hasek) the league changes the rules and the probability of landing that player is lessened by a significant degree.

I'm not saying it's not fair, the new rules make sense. I'm not saying the team is justified in intentionally sucking, because throwing away an entire season wastes everyone's time. But it still sucks as a fan (of a long, long suffering sports city) to feel like you're finally on the doorstep of something great and have it altered for the worse.
