I know, I'm really just thinking about whether it's worth all that hassle, because I'm not wholly convinced by this retailer so far..

Did amazon ever accept too many preorders? Or are confirmed preorders safe?

Well, we will find out amazon.fr had the preorder up for 4 days. Looking at the situation in general, it seems as if they will cancel orders too - unless they got the majority of the stock. I ordered there almost right after they listed it, so I guess mine will go through.

EDIT: Hell I just realized I got 5 pre-orders up for the First Print Edition now (including: gamesware.at, game.co.uk., amazon.fr) I'm probably gonna cancel some of them later.

Would cancel the gameware.at order, their price (89€) is the highest in the whole EU I guess :/

More info: availability of the first print in the online store was unintended. They're now trying to figure out what to do next. Either they uphold these pre-orders or they cancel them for everyone and just call the two people on top of the list for each individual store. I really hope they don't do the latter (as that would be a slap in the face of those who preordered it), but we'll see.
So again, just because you pre-ordered it at gamemania on time, doesn't necessarily mean you're getting it.

But people who preordered in store got charged a deposit already, right? At least that's how it works in Belgium at Game Mania for preorders that are fairly expensive.

They are a large brick and mortar chain of multimedia stores, present in France, Spain, Portugal, Belgium...

So they should be pretty reliable, but if ever you need to get in touch with their customer service you'll likely be treated like many of those bigger chains treat their customers... like a number.

Fnac is huuuge (mostly in France and Spain I think?). I don't have any experience with their online shop, but they should be reliable.

You just have to hope that they have actually enough games in stock. I wanted to purchase from them the collector's edition of FFXIII a few years ago. I was late to order it (the game was released the same day as my order) but they mentioned that they had enough stock. However, after a few days they still did not have despatched my game and the customer service told me that they were actually unable to fulfill my order because they were out of stock. They offered me to either cancel my order or buy the regular edition with a reduced fee on the OST to compensate.

It worked! I talked to amazonUK via chat, was very very polite and said I was confused by this whole situation and made very clear that I ordered this under the expectation to receive both and was reassured that I would get this. I also brought up the preorder price guarantee. They asked me to cancel and order the Special edition then amended the price as you see in the image.

Very happy I stuck with the order and didn't jump ship to ShopTo immediately.

I would rather buy at amazon.es but the spanish site has still nothing about Bayonetta 2. Actually, us cancellers now have a legitimate complaint if they start upgrading people or giving some other form of recompense, given that we cancelled our orders after being advised by customer services that it wasn't going to happen.

Okay just spoke to customer support. She says she can't speculate or guarantee that the original order would have been upgraded, but to make an order now for the standard edition then get back in touch if those orders are upgraded and they'll honour it.
