I blame the horrid multiplayer announcer.
Aw, c'mon I like him. He has such a comforting British voice.

Bungie should just pack it up...
LOL seriously, the more I play this game the more most of the reviewers are wrong. This is easily a 9/10 game. The story is garbage and non-existent, but other than that the game is stellar and most importantly, fun.
Let's just take a look at Bungie's history, for reference.

Obsidian's game Fallout: New Vegas had a monetary bonus from the publisher for hitting an 85% or higher ranking on Metacritic. (or was it Gamerankings? Whatever.) In the end, FONV hit 84%.
It's a good FPS, at best. By design, it can never be an outstanding FPS, because it's too beholden to traditional MMORPG trappings to ever stand with a series like Halo.
How do opinions work? Game reviews are opinions, not facts..... You can;t denounce an entire website because of an unbiased review. It's the biased reviews that we shjould be able to throw in the garbage and not even count.
I have no skin in the game either way, I'm just sayin'...
So it's near perfect besides for one of the most important things for a series that's gonna be around for a decade?
It's absurd that a 77 is considered not very good for a video game. Obviously Destiny with the large amounts of money invested in it "should" have got a higher score, but how on earth have we come to the point where 77 is mediocre?
I blame the horrid multiplayer announcer.
Graphics - 10, easily one of the best looking games out there.
Gameplay - 10, some of the best shooting mechanics in an FPS ever.
Presentation - 10, the Bungie polish really shows in the game presentation and usability.
Content - 9, A Little lacking in variety but the amount of content you can play, with more always being added constantly should keep you entertained for hours on end.
Story - 5, The story is virtually non-existent and I don't know what is going on half the time and it's definitely something that needs to be addressed in the future games.
However, with that being said just because the story is lacking doesn't to me justify scoring the game as low as some of these outlets are. The game is a fucking blast to play, and that should be what matters the most. For your 60 dollars, there are not a lot of other games out there that can offer you a better experience right now. That's just my opinion.

Does not compute
Bungie owns the IP outright. I am sure they are getting a decent cut.
Source? That's a bit out of the ordinary.
That's .5% of 500 million aka chump couch seat change.
I thought Activision did this for all their titles? It is an incentive to produce well received work, not a punishment for failing to meet a score. A bonus for a good job.

THANK YOU. I am getting really tired of the hate for this game. It is EXACTLY what I expected. This is the game I wanted, and it's the game Bungie delivered. Talking about the story; it's not exactly like the original Halo had the best story ever. I'm disappointed, sure, and I would have liked a better story, but that's kind of negligible to me considering the gameplay is fantastic.
I'd agree with a 9/10.
That 500M was for the entire franchise, not the first game itself right? I have seen very little of that 500M in game design and marketing wise. GTA V had a budget of $265 million and that game was EVERYWHERE.
Some people had higher expectations than you, no use in trying to speak for others.

This is why we can't have nice things
"Let's take a trip back to 2012, when Activision was embroiled in a nasty legal battle with Call of Duty creators Vince Zampella and Jason West. As part of that court case, Activision had to share details of its original contract with Bungie for Destiny, which was then scheduled for release in 2013. Buried in the public documents is this little nugget:"

It should be noted that the contract is from 2010, so it could have changed.
I'm at Level 8 and my biggest gripe so far is that I need to go bungie.net to read the backstory-riddled cards I unlock during gameplay
Well the deal may have been changed. The document says that there were supposed to be 4 games, not 3 and was supposed to have an exclusivity deal with MS for at least the first game. So it looks like things have changed. Regardless, I don't think this is an Obsidian situation, they were way off from reaching a 90 rating and they own the Destiny IP so they will probably get their money since Destiny has sold over $500 million and they still have the expansions to come out. I'm sure Bungie will be fine.
I didn't follow this game too closely (console game and all), but why couldn't they review it beforehand? This game isn't an MMO so surely you don't need to have EVERYONE playing it at once?I'm disappointed that Jason is one of the many that feels like Destiny is a game that can't properly be reviewed until well over a week after it has been sitting on store shelves.
I'm not sure what you're implying here. Care to elaborate?Bungie should have sex'd up those reviewer dudes
Makes sense but not when your goal HAS to get many individuals to give you a great rating based on their opinion.
Nor the fact that your publication has spent millions on millions to drive this game through everyone's eyes. So it has to meet hype demands as well.

I hate the wording of the headline. How about "Destiny Design Decisions May Cost Bungie $2.5 Million"?
