What kind of phone do you have?

I'm staring at my Moto X and it still displays Shaun the Sheep. :-/

I have an LG G2, a Nexus 7 (2012) and a brand new Samsung Galaxy Tab S 10.5. Gravity popped up when I visited the Play Store with the Tab S, and I also got Shaun the Sheep using the Nexus 7.

Is it that much of a hassle to clean the firmware of all the excess? I'm well versed in hacking games consoles, so I'm sure I can get the hang of it.

Elaborate on these TOUCHwIZ, Xperia UI etc. elements. I used to think all Android OSs were the same, it's only recently I've learned about all this bloatware stuff.

You can't "clean the firmware". Short of uninstalling and disabling a few things, your stuck with the system-wide changes made by the OEM. I mean you could flash a new ROM sure. That'll be fun, for the first week. Until you realize how buggy it is and how you just want your phone to work properly.

I suggest just go to T-Mobile or Best Buy or something, and try out flagships from each OEM for yourself.

The Sony changes consist of a music app, album and video player. Plus some minor ui changes. It's probably the lightest skin of amy of the major OEMs.

False. Go use a Nexus again for reference.

Went to get my Note 4, got to pull it out of the box, pick the case, and almost put my new SIM in it... and then the guy realized that the phone wasn't in the system and that it would take a few hours. :(

I'm hoping the Droid Turbo will end up being a good phone.

I'm tired of my Galaxy Nexus.

You don't have to hope. It's a great phone.

Auto brightness with everything on but GPS. No greenify, zero wakelocks. Would have probably gotten 9+ if the reception at my house wasn't shit. Waiting for Lollipop, 20nm SoCs and more power efficient QHD panels. Next year's flagships should be interesting.

so you literally didn't do anything today

I bought a Chromecast about 4 days ago and while the device is working great, I'm getting huge battery drains now, even when I'm not using it. Checking my battery monitor I now see that Android System is taking up most of my battrmery with SilentLogging and Allshare Cast Dongle S/W update being the main two culprits?

Anything I can do about this? I don't have a rooted device anymore so I can't use Greenify. Its an S5.

I use all the big name streaming apps and Plex instead of allcast with no battery issues. Looks like the apps you mentioned need to be replaced with better alternatives

ive got 4 days to return my moto x to costco. is it a no-brainer to return it and get the turbo? i like the phone so far, and the battery life has been surprisingly acceptable (to me at least). spoke with the mobile kiosk and they said they dont even know if they are going to carry it. thats weird because iirc, they have always had the latest phones. kind of feel silly for asking, but should i? id have to pay the $150 difference assuming they sell it at $200.

I would go with the regular x over a turbo because the x is probably a nicer hold and looks a million times better. The turbo is also more verizoned and will receive slower ota's.

It all comes down to those con's vs much better battery life. Not a no brainer IMO but still a hard decision.

Got my Zerolemon 3500mah battery case. Loving it a lot and my battery life is now where I want it to be even as more of a power user when it comes to media and overall putting my Nexus 5 through its paces.

Not anywhere near as heavy or bulky as I expected. And it comes with a screen protector built in which isn't intrusive like I expected. Very impressed.

It's an absolute no brainer. You're getting a superior Moto X. Literally every aspect of the Turbo is superior to the X. You won't miss out on anything since this phone is from Motorola so you'll get Android Lollipop and Moto features. Last but not least, your phone will be future proof. Powered by an Snapdragon 805 processor, you'll enter next year with a powerful phone and at worst a generation behind other flagships with an 810 processor. An amazing screen( 565 ppi is insane and no other phone this year will touch it), amazing battery life, camera that's better than the X. If Moto released an unlocked version I'd get it. Do you really care about the back of your phone? You have my vote for the turbo.

I think the one on the right looks really good. The other 2 not so much.

Remember when HP would charge you like $50 or whatever to remove bloatware?

Verizon should do the same for their ugly ass 4G LTE garbage.

I still want to play with a Z3v, but I have mostly narrowed my choice down to the Moto X or the Droid Turbo. My only hesitation with the Turbo is wondering how long it will take to get software updates. Fortunately, both phones will be available this week and there's a new version of Android dropping next week, so I can take a few weeks to monitor that situation before making a decision.

Are there even reports on the battery life of the droid turbo?
I think Malyce post above is for the Turbo. At worst it'll be similar to the Droid Maxx which had great battery life. That 3900 mAh battery will not fail.

I think the black ones look nice, the right one being the best looking. Personally, I couldn't care less about the back. I care more about future proofing my phone.

People are going to say "but the specs are so much betterrrrrr!", but you have to ask yourself if it can get any better than what you currently have. I'd guess probably not. Moto X is top in its class.

The only concern would be battery life, which you say is fine, sooooooooooooo......

The mid range handset competition isn't really that hard to top.

Wat? It certainly can and it isn't that hard to find something that is. If he has the opportunity to get a better phone, he should take it.

Besides, what class is the Moto X best in? Customization? Sure but what else?

tbh, i was concerned about battery life with the moto x. turned out its fine for me. but the turbo obviously exceeds "fine" by my standards. but as the others have said, the turbo is pretty much superior to the x in all aspects. ive got a few days left to decide, but i need to know if costco will carry the turbo and how much more will i have to pay on top of the $50 i paid for the x.

What? Moto X is DEFINITELY a TOP class phone.
Some other phones have a Snapdragon 805 or a QHD screen and all of a sudden this makes a noticeable difference over the Moto X?

Guess what it doesn't. It will perform exactly the damn same, and feel exactly the damn same in usage. This spec whoring needs to stop.

The ONLY reason he should choose to switch is if he's not satisfied with his battery life....... but he is, so.....

Wtf no

Seriously the idea that a person needs to ditch their perfectly good new phone that isn't even barely 6 months old is fucking ludicrous.

You people are just stupid.

Oh yes because I'm convincing him to do this. He came on here already wanting to do that on his own will. He clearly just wanted clarification that its a better product. I am in no way giving him the idea.

Edit: Also who are you to tell anyone but yourself how often they should buy a phone?

Shut the fuck up

Don't get caught up in the 'higher numbers on a piece of paper obviously make it better' bullshit.

If you're happy with your phone, there is no reason to switch.

The verge will have a review out any day and I guarantee they will compare it up and down to the x. Not a huge fan of the verge but it should help you with your decision.

Becauae it's telling people to throw their money away and we are barely 6 months from launch of the phone that person has.

Seriously you're a horrible person for doing this.

I was wondering, I was really considering switching my GS4 to a Nexus 6. But if I don't want to spend the money on it right now (I got a contract coming up mid-2015), would it be a better idea to upgrade to an LG G3 from my GS4 (I'm on Verizon)? As in being cheaper but still really good?

As it is right now with the GS4, I'm afraid of updating it, because the Samsung/Verizon update for the phone is quite awful, and may cause several reboots each day.

Probably compare it down to the X.

The X wont hold up to actual flagships (even verizon flagships).

Maybe he doesn't want a Samsung again?

Maybe he is wealthy enough to where he can afford new posessions that often?

Yes I'm such a horrible person for suggesting they leave the Samsung update cycle. Get a decent job and maybe u won't worry about pinching other peoples pennies.

The false equavlency of because you can afford it means it can't be wasting money is astounding in this post.

"Update, October 28th, 12:00PM ET: We've had a chance to briefly use the Droid Turbo and feel a bit underwhelmed by it. It's a very similar experience to Motorola's own Moto X, but without the nicer design and better materials. The quad HD screen is nice, though it didn't get bright enough when outdoors, and we didn't notice the Turbo to be any faster than the Moto X in our brief tests. The ballistic nylon finish is definitely unique, providing a bit of grip and a different feel than a plastic or metal phone might. We still prefer the leather or wood options on the Moto X, but could see where the nylon would appeal to a certain customer. Of course, the biggest story with the Turbo is its proclaimed battery life, which we'll be putting to the test in our upcoming review. "
