AC UNITY patch worsens NPC pop-in. Ubisoft actually puts in new spawning animation.

Anyone expecting anything else was kidding themselves. What did anyone expect they could do to improve performance? It was lower quality of effects, lower quality of models, or lower quality/quantity/etc of NPCs. There was no hidden "make this game run at a better frame rate" button they forgot to press. The game pushed the system, so literally this is what they could do or nothing.

I mean....one person continuing to have problems with a game post-patch isn't exactly newsworthy.

So I ask: Is everyone experiencing this amount of NPC pop-in? If so, I would like to hear it.

I have no agenda either way. Just want to know how widespread this is....
Read the other thread with the title that isn't misleading. Or my and other users' impressions on how the pop in isn't as bad as the one in the OP.

Well, not a single button. There might have been a long series of buttons they should have pressed at various points in the game's development to make sure the framerate never got this bad, but at this point the damage has been done and the necessary changes are probably buried deeper than a post-launch performance patch is likely to address. So yeah, the only remaining option is to make relatively quick and dirty cutbacks like this.

I wanted to dominate the living room. Then I took an ESRAM in the knee.
The pop-in is the same as pre-patch, IMO. I won't give them too much shit on that, though. While they improved the framerate noticeably, which proves how rushed the game was, I don't expect them to fix all performance-related issues in one month magically, or fix them at all. I have no problem believing that they are pushing the hardware to its limit, and hiding the resulting issues in a clever way likely would take longer than a month.

At least the game is in a playable state now. Hope they can improve the tech for the next AC.

Well, not a single button. They could have made a mandate to prioritize a stable 30 FPS from out outset and make sure they were meeting that goal every step of the way, but at this point the damage has been done and the necessary changes are probably buried deeper than a post-launch performance patch is likely to address. So yeah, the only remaining option is to make relatively quick and dirty cutbacks like this.

This was what I was getting at. They committed to this path way early on.

Ummmm reading this thread I have the impression that many people are jumping the gun on something they haven't tried first hand.
NPC pop-in was in the game since the beginning and it was already distracting.
OP claims it's worse after the patch as a fact and with a single opinion as a source but that is highly debatable. It seems the same to me honestly.
And the new animus-like spawning animation.....it's really hard to replicate the effect, most of the pop-in happens in the distance, getting NPCs appearing out of no where so close to the player is NOT the norm in the game, usually you get better clothes or detail when you get close and there's no animus animation.
So yeah the game had and still has a pop-in problem, but claiming as a fact that it got worse after the patch is premature and should require further investigation....you know what happened when people claimed downgrades after patch 3 already....
I'm definetly looking forward to see more comments from people who have actually tried the patch which imo does a good job at fixing the frame rate problems and that was the main problem with the game, so I'm happy with it although I finished it long ago at this point. Now the game is fully playable and that's the most important thing.

I have the patch and the frame rate is better at times but it still tanks in places it really shouldn't. The awful low quality audio is more of a deal breaker for me.

this is unacceptable in today's market. what are we telling new generations of gamers? that our games come broken yet you pay full price? its sad but these publishers/devs are going to create a crash to my hobby.

on one hand i feel bad for the devs, they are putting so much time so that we can enjoy wasting time. they lose time with their families and friends, they slave themselves for our enjoyment, they work day and night....and then we get this. its sad to me because i know its not easy for them. plus add in neogaf and other forums berating them and fuck that's soul crushing, it must be hard to even continue to do anything. i hope for the best.

They should make this into an ARG and say that someone is hacking Abstergo by trying to sabotage the players.

It'd be the funniest shit to watch.

You know, I remember a day where games would have been recalled until it was fixed. The problem is simple, day 1 patches. Don't release a broken title and hope for the best, make sure of that shit going in. But then again it's not like this game hasn't been the subject matter of controversy sense it's actual announcement..... right.....

It's still not solid 30 fps as far as I can tell.
But it feels like it went from 20-25fps to 25-30fps which has a significant impact for playability.

I'm always confused at how popular this series is. Every other entry seems to be a complete disaster, and in general the series appears to be relatively poorly designed and uninteresting. Incredible marketing I suppose, they pump these things out on an assembly line.

And it's just the beginning, people keep buying dem alpha builds so the money still flows, marketing strategy still works and Yves Shitmot is happy, aand they hope that people will actually forget this, which is kind of true, sadly..

Who are you quoting and why should I be listening to him in particular when he says it's "worse"?

From my experience it really does seem worse, then again the pop-in was the main fix i was hoping for, so i was paying more attention to it. One things for sure, the pop-in is every where and happens consistently.

Bar all the issues, i haven't enjoyed an AC game this much since AC2. But the pop-in is distracting.

Really? Shitmot? Anus Creed? Yea and AC 2-R were definitely alpha builds, and so was 4.

This is the only AC to be a huge complete disaster on a technical level.

AC3 is a turd on story and pacing wise.

AC4 initially have parity on it but had a 1080p patch for the ps4 after release.

PC port is a different story tho.

The pop in is still crap yeah.

The game also crashed on me twice after patching.

This is amazing. Hopefully this will teach them to stop rushing out Assassin's Creed games every holiday season.

What is this? Patch #4 they're working on now? Jesus!

Patch 4 is the one that came out this morning. Game still needs more patching though.

I assure you that that notion couldn't be more true.

"correcting people"... lmao
Consider that the person I replied to hasn't replied at all to being corrected about the "FC4 anti-piracy wasn't well-received" or the person who brought it up in the first place. Heck even the OP seemingly left after people started questioning whether or not this was legitimate widespread issue or just an isolated case.

So whats the opinion of the PC version after this patch? Thinking about grabbing it on the cheap but not sure if I should. Consoles just look broken at this point so hoping PC tech has enabled them to do better.

I wouldn't personally recommend it even if it were polished.

I hope they leave this shit out of the PC version. If not I will not be updating the game.

PC gamers should not have to be reduced to this rubbish.

I just don't get it. There are already plenty of NPC's that aren't visibly popping in, why can't they dial the NPC count a bit if only to get rid of the obvious pops?

I mean what the fuck.
