"Tidal" struggling hard against competitors

Struggling seems a nice way to put it; this thing looks like it was dead before arrival. Start the Jay-Z lost memes.

Two weeks after Tidal briefly cracked the U.S. iPhone top 20 download chart, the app has crashed out of the top 700. Apparently American consumers have limited empathy towards Beyonce and Nicki. Soon after the launch fiasco, Tidal’s CEO was kicked out in a “streamlining” move. The new CEO Peter Tonstad, a former consultant for the Norwegian Ministry of Environment, has his work cut out for him.

The only thing Tidal did was boost Spotify's popularity.

Spotify remains unbothered.

Nobody's going back to a less convenient system, that should have been obvious to him when he was buying it.

Tidal is literally the most important thing to happen to humanity. It's going to change the world and end all disease and starvation. OP is nothing more than a Spotify shill, and I hear he thinks Hitler was a pretty cool guy.

Paying $20 for "ultra high quality sounding" music is such an idiotic idea IMO. The target audience for this must be people in the few hundreds. Spotify users (which Tidal tried to steal from) probably don't notice the difference between 256 kbps vs 320 kbps.

I'd be able to turn it around in four simple steps.

1) Start streaming scripted video content on Tidal.

2) As is all the rage at the moment I'd bring back Space:Above & Beyond.

3)??????????????

4)Profits. Or, as Kanye calls it, Champagne tokens.

Tidal is one of the stupidest business ventures I've seen. They tried to break into an already maturing bubble that has already begun settling.

Instead of investing into other business, they all doubled down on something within the music industry because that is all they know. That is all they have contacts for. They are basically making a power play within the industry to try to serve themselves.

If they brought this onto the Shark Tank they would probably be laughed off.

But what about all of those world's wealthiest music artists who signed on? I hope they'll be okay, poor souls. Spotify was obviously bankrupting them (especially Swift, I feel terrible about her small beach house that she had to settle on). And we all know Jay Z and Beyonce are struggling, that combined net worth of ~1 billion dollars could disappear any day

This is what happens when you base your marketing campaign on badmouthing your competitors, especially when your competitors are popular and well-established. Expecting people to have pity on mega pop stars who make more money than most of us ever will is just the icing on the cake.

On the one hand, it has only been two weeks. It's a bit premature to claim it as a failure.

On another hand, it's not a good look when Jigga Man has to call random ass people up personally to thank them for using the service.

There could be a popular "for the musicians" type music service, it's just Jay Z is not the guy I'd trust to helm it. This is the same guy that takes a $50 Champagne called Antique Gold, re-brands it under the name Armand de Brignac Gold, only he then charges ten times the price per bottle. Why? Because he can. He has the marketing clout, and knows so many people are stupid enough to pay up.

Jay-Z’s Great Champagne Robbery

Same sort of shit with other rappers with brands like BEATS and SOUL.

Lossless does not matter to people. We've had to have this argument on here for decades when most of us knew the truth. A bunch of super rich musicians trying to ask for more money was even more awkward.

I'm honestly enjoying my free trail but don't plan on renewing. Might convince my brother to go into a Spotify membership with me afterwards though.

Didn't this launch at a higher price point than the competition? Seems like a bad move. If anything price it lower to steal customers then up the price later like Netflix did once people are hooked.

Tidal is struggling due to poor sails.

They should have enough capital to stay afloat though.

They're probably nothing more than a shell company anyway.

..., boats and what not.

Who's stupid enough to stream lossless audio from their iphone/average android handset?

It's optional. 96 kbps, 320 kbps, or 1411 kbps. Although to get access to the lossless audio you would have to pay $20 a month instead of the normal $10.

For real. People waiting on this to fail so they can LOL. Jay Z will be ok.

I won't lie, I am watching this ready to laugh gleefully as it all falls apart. Like a shark swimming around an incipient shipwreck, waiting for the trail of blood to show him where the schadenfreude has fallen helplessly into the water. Or something.

Don't really care about Jay though.
