If Clinton didn't want to ban guns, she wouldn't be railing against the SCOTUS decision that told states and cities that they can't ban guns.

She's also on record as advocating for "Australian-style reform" which means a ban and mandatory confiscation.

Do even know what Heller was? It wasn't about banning all guns.

Do even know what Heller was? It wasn't about banning all guns.

Bullshit

Richard Heller was a sixty year old retired cop who had seen his neighborhood go to shit because of crime and drugs. Thus he wanted to keep a handgun in his house for self-defense purposes, something that is completely reasonable and understandable, but something that was also completely illegal in DC at the time. This was a man who was legally able to carry guns inside federal buildings for his entire career, but who was denied the right to own one inside his own home as a civilian because of a bullshit unconstitutional law.

That was the crux of the case. It wasn’t about ‘protecting toddlers’; it was about whether or not the government has the right to flat-out ban civilian possession of firearms.

The ONLY reason someone would want to see the case over-turned and reversed would be to open the door for states and municipalities to ban and confiscate guns.

Yeah barring a major terrorist attack in the next 2 weeks Trump is going to lose. He was done after the first debate. At this point the only thing that matters is the Senate. I pray that Ayotte and Toomey can hold on and that the GOP will be brazen enough to block her SCOTUS noms for another 4 years.

I’m still voting because he has a good chance to win Iowa, and ultimately the more states he wins, the less of a mandate it will be seen as for Hillary.

Other races I couldn’t care less about. Grassley and Loebsack are both guaranteed re-election, and municipal races are meaningless to me as I don’t plan on staying in Iowa City past graduation anyways.

Even if there was a major terrorist attack, it wouldn't matter much I don't think. None of the terrorist attacks, domestic or abroad, has seemed to help Trump at all. The Orlando shooting, and his comments on that, actually saw him have a decent drop in the polls during the primaries. I don't know people are convinced a terrorist attack would somehow make him surge.

It was about handguns, not all guns. I wish it was as simple as you're saying it is, I'd love to be done with the menace if it were possible.

If there's more out there I gotta believe they will come to light soon, they'd be more valuable than gold at this point.

I want those tax returns leaked. I couldn't care less about another Hot Mic moment. I want this asshole to be exposed for never donating a penny. That would crater his numbers among the religious right even more.

I don't know how many dozens of times I heard the gun companies tell us to stock up on guns before Obama takes them away. People still fall for it every time.

That data does assuage my fears, thanks.

I just want one more Trump tape. I want this deal sealed.

Oppo drops wouldn't be about sealing the presidential at this point. That ship has long since sailed. They would be more about sealing the Senate, which is highly likely regardless, but not yet a done deal.

More than that, I don't see why Republicans can't see how morally fucked up is that their electoral chances are improved when their countrymen are killed.

But he's admitted he hasn't paid tax for decades in the past two debates.

So whatever's in his actual tax returns must be even worse than that since he's still reluctant to let us see them.

Mob ties, it's gotta be mob ties. You don't do real estate development like Trump did in NYC, when he did it, without mob ties.

And you think Hillary is going to pull off an Australian-style gun banning? In America? Now? Yeah, right after she breezes single payer health care and a manned mission to Alpha Centauri through Congress.

Get real. I'll take a bunch of ineffectual gun control rhetoric over stacking the Supreme Court with justices who are going to strip rights from minorities for three decades. Guns have a Constitutional amendment purely about themselves to protect them, brown people do not. If Sandy Hook didn't do it, nothing will. You're fine.

You really should refrain from discussing topics you have such painfully limited knowledge on. You spent the entire election season embarrassing yourself in political threads with your almost comical disregard of reality, and now you want to delve into these waters when you're so clearly over your head?

Let me spell it out for you. Nuance is an actual thing, as most people don't choose political positions and candidates in fits of hysterical tantrum throwing as you do. As such, you may not realize that supreme court decisions are often multifaceted and have various elements of which you can disagree with in whole or in part.

In fact, justices will often write partial dissents for elements of the Court's ruling they disagree with, even while agreeing in part on the whole overall. They will say things like "we believe the court, however, has gone too far with X element of this ruling, and..." in order to highlight problematic issues.

Similarly, Hillary was disagreeing with this part of the Heller vs. D.C. case:

(3) The handgun ban and the trigger-lock requirement (as applied to self-defense) violate the Second Amendment. The District’s total ban on handgun possession in the home amounts to a prohibition on an entire class of “arms” that Americans overwhelmingly choose for the lawful purpose of self-defense. Under any of the standards of scrutiny the Court has applied to enumerated constitutional rights, this prohibition – in the place where the importance of the lawful defense of self, family, and property is most acute – would fail constitutional muster. Similarly, the requirement that any lawful firearm in the home be disassembled or bound by a trigger lock makes it impossible for citizens to use arms for the core lawful purpose of self-defense and is hence unconstitutional. Because Heller conceded at oral argument that the D. C. licensing law is permissible if it is not enforced arbitrarily and capriciously, the Court assumes that a license will satisfy his prayer for relief and does not address the licensing requirement. Assuming he is not disqualified from exercising Second Amendment rights, the District must permit Heller to register his handgun and must issue him a license to carry it in the home.

Link

She disagrees with banning all guns. She believes that significant regulations need to be placed on them, however, of which she thinks the court got it specifically wrong on the idea that enforcing trigger locks or forcing individuals to store guns disassembled is unconstitutional.

This is the problem when nuttery is used to stake out a positions. Subtlety goes out the window and then it is easier to pick apart how self-evidently absurd your beliefs are. Every country that significantly regulates gun ownership has showed massive declines in gun violence. Every. Single. One. Hillary believes in facts, and understands how serious the gun issue is in America, and therefore believes in significant regulations.

This is, if you are unaware, a distinct position from wanting to ban all guns.

But please proceed, guvnuh. Something something stolen election something something Bernie Sanders something something I am voting Trump now something something let's block Hillary's supreme court nominations since all hope is lost because I'm a huge insufferable infant something something

Most white Trump voters seem to feel the same way.

At this point, the religious right won't abandon him, no matter what. Hell, after the video came out and all the allegations, they were the one organized group who seemed to double down on him. It's not a surprise for those who really pay attention, but the religious right really exposed themselves this election as, perhaps, the most unethical and hypocritical organized force in politics. Thank god it looks like their influence is more or less dead.

Trump: You can't take our guns away. That is so horrible. I mean, why would should a government ever have so much power to strip people of their rights?!?! That is so horrible. I will do everything in my power to protect gun rights.

later that day

Trump: I am calling for a ban on muslims from entering the USA and will force Muslims to wear some kind of tag. I am calling for women to give up abortions. I also want another sovereign nation to pay for a wall they have no interest in. Neither groups have rights because I said so.

Do you see the logic in opposing gun control methods but are ok with everything else Trump says or does?

Fixed that for ya.

How is Clinton not good again?

I've noticed this election has done some really strange things with people. Every time Trump says/does something horrible people complain about the choices and how bad everything is this year. I want to scream sometimes, because it seems like whatever Trump does it lowers opinion of Clinton too for some fucking weird reason.

Team Alucard is at this point a single issue gun voter who believes that Clinton is going to literally ban guns, and feels that her saying she isn't going to ban guns is more evidence that she will.

Frankly, I think this is way too optimistic about Alucard. He's been aggressively supporting a white nationalist ever since Hillary best Bernie, and I don't remember him talking about guns the whole time he was doing so.

Really hoping Clinton wins and the senate flips to Democrat control. Just imagining a liberal leaning court ensuring the progress we've made remains, and repealing citizens united gives me hope.

I'll tell you exactly why she's no good.

I saw Hillary Clinton at a grocery store in North Carolina yesterday. I told her how cool it was to meet her in person, but I didn’t want to be a douche and bother her and ask for photos or anything.

She said, “Oh, like you’re doing now?”

I was taken aback, and all I could say was “Huh?” but she kept cutting me off and going “huh? huh? huh?” and closing her hand shut in front of my face. I walked away and continued with my shopping, and I heard her chuckle as I walked off. When I came to pay for my stuff up front I saw her trying to walk out the doors with like fifteen Milky Ways in her hands without paying.

The girl at the counter was very nice about it and professional, and was like “Ma'am, you need to pay for those first.” At first she kept pretending to be tired and not hear her, but eventually turned back around and brought them to the counter.

When she took one of the bars and started scanning it multiple times, she stopped her and told her to scan them each individually “to prevent any electrical infetterence,” and then turned around and winked at me. I don’t even think that’s a word. After she scanned each bar and put them in a bag and started to say the price, she kept interrupting her by yawning really loudly.

Nasty woman.

How democratic of you. Who cares about what the people want, am I right?

And praying for your guns. Man guns really are religious to some people. I say that as a gun owner myself. It's ridiculous.

lol as an australian, this is fucking hilarious, you're full of shit. Also, voting for or against someone because of something like guns is just crazy, there's bigger issues than some objects made to kill things.

Australian style doesn't mean a copy of their program. They were the beta and we make take some ideas from it. It also wasn't an outright ban, it was a restriction on certain types and license requirements for others. It also, there was a "confiscation" but the initialization of the program was a government buyback of now illegal arms, and later there were amnesties of illegal arms in future years. People's houses weren't being invaded to confiscate arms.

This was also in a culture that has less of an obsession of firearms than ourselves so it's obvious that we wouldn't follow the exact same pattern. I'm a lot more confident in her ability to navigate the waters of reasonable middle ground policy in improving regulation of firearms through background checks and licensing and the legality of doing so.

I'm fairly sure people who say that type of stuff are just anti-woman president more than anything.

Judging from the way people felt about our female prime minister in Australia when she was actually a realy great leader my conclusion has to be people just hate women in power.
