Awesome film.

Watched it with family and everyone loved it, even the family members who usually balk at Disney animated movies.

Really enjoyed the movie. I was stunned by how detailed all of the textures were. You could even see the skin slightly raised on the tattoos which was awesome to see.

My girlfriend is half Tongan and she loved the movie so much

Everything about that scene 😭

Also hahahaha at Lin getting both Christopher Jackson and Phillipa Soo in there. Hamilton cast moving in on Disney.

I am okay with this

He gotta get them prepped for his untitled WDAS movie coming in a few years. And don't forget that Jordan Fisher is the end credit version of You're Welcome.

Jumping in again to concur how amazing I Am Moana is. I knew it would be a powerful scene when I heard the song before the movie, but I wasn't ready for the full context and the animation that went with it.

Just...the way the song
builds and builds to her belting out I AM MOANAAAA! at the end
is the kind of chills you get from top-tier musicals like Les Miserables. It left me with a weird mix of being teary-eyed and wanting to triumphantly pump my fist in the air.

I just fear that it will be overshadowed by the other big songs in the movie in most people's minds.

We Know The Way is amazing. I just wanted to get on a boat and cast off.

And how it's part of the central track with I Am Moana (We Know The Way + How Far I'll Go) was peak fucking Disney.

Hahaha didn't know about Jordan Fisher. So...Hamilton and Laurens singing You're Welcome together. Beautiful.

And I was wildly excited when I saw Lin was working on not only live action Little Mermaid, but "untitled Byron Howard/Lin Manuel Miranda film". I don't know what it is about, or care that it's years away and probably has zero concept other than "let's make a movie together", but I'm excited.

More importantly, it's the father/son duet we never got.

I think the speed ramped climax was more chill inducing personally.

"Let her come to me."

If Jill Stein can get a recount, then by golly I will get I Am Moana nominated for the Best Song Oscar. It wrecks me emotionally. Everything about the sequence is amazing. And I need to see it performed live.

The Little Mermaid and Tangled are two of my favorite movies, so I am right there with you.

Problem with I am moana is that on its own it's kind of disjointed and clunky, it doesn't shine to its fullest potential unless you watch the whole movie and hear the other songs. I think they'll go with the safe pick that stands alone well, How Far I'll go. Maybe Where you are.

How Far I'll Go will probably be the pick if this gets an Oscar nod for Best Original Song (as it should), but man I wanna see Dwayne Johnson cheese it up performing You're Welcome at the Oscars.

I am not even really a fan of animated movies and don't feel one way or another about most, but I see them all because of my kids.

This movie was great. The characters were fleshed out. The female empowerment, no dumb prince etc.

It's also the first time I've been amazed at digital animation since the first Pixar movie. I don't think I've ever seen better digital animation.

I wonder if they would have someone other than the girl who played Moana doing the singing at the Oscars. She's still very young! And a new performer, I wouldn't think she'd be prepared to sing in front of a huge audience on live TV.

Yes at both Mermaid and Tangled and Lin and Byron, and so much Disney joy 😭

This was pretty great. I love the Shiny song, a little out of place with the rest of the movie but in a good way, and fits the location that the song takes place in.

The
coconut pirates
seemed more out of place to me, I realize there's magic and whatnot but they seemed a little random. They were there and gone, and there wasn't anything else quite like them. I guess they're some kind of Polynesian legend? I liked all of the other supernatural aspects a lot more.

I was curious how they were going to handle the final fight with striking a balance between having the two gods fight and not making it seem like Maui was the real hero. I liked it.

The soundtrack was really good. There were a few parts where I thought it was really obvious than Lin-Manuel Miranda wrote, especially in the first song about life on the island. Seemed like there was a few lines that would have worked better shortened in a rap that felt a little awkward in a sung song.

Loved the movie overall though, I'll definitely be grabbing it when it comes out on BluRay. Hope it's the first Disney movie to get a 4K/ HDR version.

The first 10 minutes of UP are the only 10 minutes worth watching.

Leaving the movie after the melodrama and missing the clever characters and unique story afterward is a horrible choice.

I feel like we finally have the CGI Disney musical soundtrack that can stand up with the 90s renaissance properly. EVERY song is awesome; emotionally-driven, catchy, and great to listen to even outside of context of the film. How Far I'll Go/I Am Moana needs to supplant Let It Go as the new standard Disney torch song. Speaking of that song:
Got emotionally wrecked when her grandmother died and was reincarnated as a spiritual manta. Honestly didn't expect that despite the foreshadowing, and the timing of the singing and the majesty of the animation was Lion King tier.

See, I knew
she would die the moment she said she wanted to be reincarnated as a manta. But I thought her as a manta would just be a quick shot near the end of an actual manta (which did happen). I definitely didn't expect her moment of death to be represented as this incredible ghostly blue manta swimming out of the hut and underneath Moana as she's sailing away while How Far I'll Go is being reprised. I was getting teary-eyed already when she was dying, and it got worse with the manta and when she returned to give Moana her Jedi/Mufasa pep talk.
It really made both songs it was associated with even more emotionally effective,

From Tangled to Frozen and now Moana, the music just keeps on getting better and better! Know Who You Are deserves more love.

I really love how they had the finale end up not be some final battle against a villain, have Maui upstage Moana-the world was saved not by a battle but by accepting a mistake, and not having pride get in the way of humbling yourself to nature. It fit the rest of the movie's theme perfectly.

Oh my god, it took me a second to recognize the song because it's so short, but the scene where it's sung is the best scene in the movie and
it just might be the greatest Disney movie climax ever.
I was not expecting that twist and I got major Miyazaki vibes with how the main conflict was resolved and its aftermath. I was in awe.

I thought the same thing. That one shot that frames that scene could be a still painting.

That shot and the shot at night of
Moana talking to the ocean wave sticking out underneath the moonlight as she gives up
are both moments I would hang on my wall.

As bad as it sounds, I can't wait until there's a high-quality rip of the movie so I can watch gifs of my favorite sequences over and over. The trailers do not do fully cover just how incredible the animation gets.

It's incredible. I've still yet to see the movie, but someone who has seen it described the scene to me and by the sounds of it it's truly a special moment.

Hm, just saw it with my family and I think my opinion is little bit of an outlier in this thread.

I agree that this is definitely the strongest soundtrack Disney has made for a film in a very long time. Every single song is a hit, even the one song I didn't really care for while watching the film (
Shiny
) has grown on me as I keep listening to it over and over. Auliʻi Cravalho has an incredibly beautiful voice and many of her songs are the real highlights of the film. How Far I'll Go is my favorite and I Am Moana would be higher if it were just a bit longer, it just feels like it ends too early.

The film is also gorgeous to look at. The water, sand, characters, clouds ( holy shit those clouds at the end with
Te Ka
were insane ) and overall effects were amazing. I feel like this is expected now because it's Disney but it is a very pretty film.

The dialogue...left much to be desired, especially from Maui. I really liked Moana and the Grandmother but whenever Maui was on screen I just never cared for how he said anything. The
Twitter
joke was the lowest point for me but I felt like much of his humor bordered that despite everything. And considering he is a big part of the film itself it just brought down the overall movie for me.

I can also see where the whole 'Moana never grows' complaint comes from even if I don't agree with it. She goes from '
I want this and I don't know why, but I was chosen so I should go anyway!
' to '
I want this and that's why I go, not because I chosen but because this is my choice
' and it's not as apparent as Maui's arc. She doesn't really have any flaws though, unless you count
being headstrong a flaw even though it's what helps her in the end.

Overall, a wonderful film for both its' music and visuals but I don't care for the dialogue and its' weaker 'middle act'. I personally feel Zootopia and Frozen are better films but I would rank this above Wreck-It-Ralph and Big Hero 6.

THis movie hasn't come out here yet ... but I downloaded a couple of the songs.

How far I'll go ... is amazing.

I liked this movie, I thought it was much better than Frozen, which I honestly didn't like too much story-wise and how it resolved its conflict. Though I have to admit I got tired of the chicken halfway through. It had some laughs at first, but at a certain point we get it, the chicken is dumb.

Y'all know they were just getting the water right so they can announce the Little Mermaid live action remake.
Even though Ariel is literally the worst.
